"Take this gun" he said, "I won't be able to protect you any more. I'm going to college, I need to get out of here and make a life for myself."
"But -"
"Just take it!"
The words of her brother imprinted in her mind, Méabhe braced herself as she opened the door to her dorm room. Hmm...it isn't all bad. It actually has flooring. she thought. A single bed along with a side table against one wall, a dresser with a round mirror on the other, and a small wooden chair sitting in the corner of the room. Méabhe sat down on her bed, moving her hand along the rough quilt. Looking down at her bruised arms, she immediately pulled back. Putting on her green blazer, she pulled out her long brown hair from underneath it. She stood up and looked in the mirror, large turquois-green eyes staring back at her. Hideous, she thought, and looked away.
"Why are you so late?!" he said as he came charging towards her.
"Don't touch me Dad!"
"What!" he yelled in fury, pinning her up against the wall. She held the gun in her coat pocket, clenching it tightly. He gave her a good punch in the stomach, dropping her as she gasped for breath. No more, she thought. Pulling out the gun, she hesitated for a moment as she pulled the trigger, shooting him in the head.
Méabhe shook the thoughts from her head, but the burning sensation she got in her left palm, the same hand she killed him with, never went away. It felt as if the gun was still in her hand, giving her control over life and death, and she chose death for her father. Méabhe, holding onto the sleeves of her jacket, decided there was nothing worth staying in her room for, and went to explore what looked to be her new home.
