The stagnant odor of death forever permeated the air of the Graveyard, both inner and outer. The shadows always seemed to shift just right to conceal lions or hyenas, often playing tricks on the eyes of those who tresspassed into haunting domain.

Few lions dared call such a place home, almost all of them hardened somehow. Toshiro was hardened, but months away from the boneyard he'd played in had sharpened his mind, made him aware of the world outside and the shifting winds of ways. The scars on his side now gleamed white, no longer angry and red. The mark of his former king... He still bore it with pride.

Though his paws stepped once again upon land that would have been his in his parents' absence, he returned not to reclaim the dark throne, but to bring tidings to his two remaining sibblings. Who knew where Jwahir and Nkechi had vanished to... But Runai and Masika still dwelled for whatever reasons. He would let them duke that matter out themselves.

No, he was here to see his dear little brother. But little was not the propper term, for while Toshiro was the eldest, Runai was the largest. It ruffled the piebald's fur a bit. But he would not think of this, not now... He had news, and it needed to be shared.

Rune had assumed for some time now that only he and a few others actually still lived inside the territory known as the graveyard. It seemed that only a handful had taken to the death and decay and rotting state that this particular land held, and even a smaller amount had literally taken a liking in it.

Such was Runai. He'd had a love/hate relationship with this particular bit of Africa for months now, although where else would he go? His entertainment was here -- Mafa. Although the plans he had remained sealed in the back of his mind until he could get the girl alone. Which probably would be never, unfortunately.

Although as he meandered around in the dark, foggy area, his ears quirked. The only sound he'd heard previously were his own footsteps, caused by that limp of his. But now there were other noises wandering through the fog. Without a second's hesitation, he began to follow.

"Who's there," He called, eyes narrowing while he moved. "If you're a stupid pridelander then get the hell out before I find you," he added roughly along with a growl.

Stopping in his wanderings, the black and white lion looked around. A smile touched his maw as he turned and followed the voice. "Someone you should know quite well." He topped a rise and smiled broader. "Hello, dear brother. Enjoying the land of death and decay?" Pacing down towards his larger yet younger brother, Toshiro circled him a bit. "Mafa treating you well? And has Ausha kicked the bnes YET?" He sat down, silver-ended tail twitching. "Anyway, I came to tell you something..." He absently brushed a bit of dust off his shoulder, letting Runai stew over about what he'd just said. Let him prod to learn.

'Oh. S'you." Rune mumbled. It would've been more fun to find a pridelander and boot them, but beggers couldn't be chosers.

"Quit with the proper crap. And Mafa's treated me brilliantly. Probably better than she's ever treated any lion. But whatev." He commented, quirking a brow as he sat, allowing his beady black eyes to follow his brothers figure while he circled. "Hmph. What's it with you people and circling. You do it. Mafa does it. Stupid little hyena lackies do it. It looks stupid," he added, a little offhandedly, a small sort of smirk appearing on his face meanwhile.

"And no. Ausha hasn't faceplanted and died yet. Pity. Heard his son took over, though. With a few little rats and a girl. Psh. With any luck they won't last long before kicking the dust." With that he shut up, still keeping a wary eye on his sibling. He wasn't very trusting of anyone now-a-days.

"Oh. News, eh? War? Death? Something good, hopefully. Feel free to share." Rune was only mildly interested. Now-a-days there was very little that entertained him. However he'd stay and hear whatever Toshi had to say, considering that he'd obviously come from somewhere else just to see him. Sort of.

Green eyes seemed to dance with something of mischief. "Mother lives. She abandoned us in this forsaken land and sent off to a land far from here. And she has other children that she appears to care more about than us." His paws flexed, claws scraping the stone beneath them. "I left her with a parting gift, the boney whore she is... She deserved it." With a snarl, he spat at the skull of a lion that had died in the boneyard long ago. Dust rose up lazily from it, catching in the wind before drifting off. Toshiro paid it no mind, though.

Rune's eyes quickly snapped towards his brother with a quick flash of glee. "Seems a bit dark for you, Tosh. But really? Alive, the little wretch she is? How interesting." The male snirked, a brow arching while he studied his brother.

"So we have more siblings than we thought." He added lightly, shifting his eyes in order to watch the rising dust caused by the other male. "So where is she. C'mon Tosh. You'd better have at least that for me.." Runai continued, waiting now intently. Boy.. if he didn't know where she was but had bothered to come and tell him that she still existed..?

His claws flexed almost subconsiously at the thought.

A bit of a smirk played upon the darker lion's maw. "Indeed she is. Unfortunately, living on a better diet, her new whelps are much larger and stronger. I'm not sure how many, but if there's one, there's bound to be more." He growled a bit, noticing a bone before smacking it. "She's in the Kusini'mwezi lands. It's to the south east and across a river. I'd be careful if I were you and choose your crossings carefully. The river looks dangerous." Though he had never been too close to his brother, Toshiro still felt a bit protective. In a world where everyone was far too happy, there needed to be a few sour grapes in the vines.

"I could care less about her /diet/, Toshi," He commented roughly. "But the 'whelps' that I'm interested in. Think I could.. snatch one?" Runai snerked, eager to damage any piece of their mother, even if it was her emotions.

He continued to listen, however, snapping his mouth shut quickly to hear. Directions..? Good.. although.. he'd never heard much of the Kusini'mwenzi, nor was he aware that there was a river that separated here from there.

He shook it off for the sake of his ego, however. "Psh. A river's no problem, don't worry about it," He responded with a mild wave of his paw in dismissal to the thought. A river wouldn't stop him, even if it swept him downstream. Either which way he'd find Ishara. Maybe a few random rogues along the way, too..

Mafa's pack needed a bit of help, afterall.

Dark-filled ears twitched lightly. "They're not stealable, I'm afraid. They're adolescents already. And they're as big as you are." It displeased Toshiro that his younger brothers were larger than he was, even as adolescents. Tail curling and uncurling, Toshiro rose and paced a bit. "I wouldn't laugh at that river if I were you. It looks deep, and it's wide. I know your leg isn't good for swimming." He stopped, green eyes locking to black. "Runai, as much as I dislike you, you ARE my brother and I DO worry. Besides..." He smiled. "You still have to make more lions as bitter as you. Far too many are happy and carefree."
PostPosted: Wed Jan 31, 2007 4:52 pm

"Damn. You serious? They're adolescents and you decided /now/ to give me info on where Ishara is?" Psssh. What good was he? Ah well. Hopefully those adolescents wouldn't be around when Rune got there. It could easily mean bad news for him, depending on the circumstances.

"And don't worry about the river, seriously. They don't stay deep and wide forever. They start out smaller. There's bound to be a crossing somewhere. Even with the leg I should make it fine." If there was anything that Rune was ever sure of, it was his ability to /sound/ confident when he really.. wasn't.

Meanwhile Rune had also begun to pace. Not nearly as much as his sibling, but still. It meant something that Toshi cared, but it was a little late for that sort of thing. He needed a little bit more love earlier on, not now. He was perfectly fine carrying on as he was; an unloved, uncaring lion who hung around with hyenas. It sounded fine to him, at least. "Thanks for the gesture," He replied flatly, hardly returning that smile Toshi had given him.

"Suppose I'll leave then." He added.

A frown obscured the darker male's face. "I did not know they even EXISTED until a couple days ago, and they were adolescents by the time I DID find out." His tail lashed as he continued to pace, watching his brother. "If you drown..." He sighed, shaking his head. "Not that I'd find out, unless you never came back here... But..." He stopped, watching Runai. "Good luck. And don't go getting into a scrap with one of the males."

"Ah. Well then I suppose I can pardon that. But c'mon.. fighting's my specialty! Any chance to hurt them to hurt Isha? I'll take a leap at it. You should know me by now." Rune explained with a smug sort of smirk and shrug. "And don't worry about me. I'm to stubborn to let a river take me. I'll be back for sure. I haven't finished with Mafa yet, so I've still got business to settle." He nodded, beginning to head off in the general direction of the outer perimeter of the graveyard. "The only thing that might happen is that I'll get lost. But I'll just make someone tell me where to go, that's easy." He snerked, giving a quick glance over his shoulder. "And thanks," he added awkwardly while he continued to move off further. That word didn't pop out of his mouth often, but still.

The male nodded, watching his brother go. A thanks... He hadn't really heard such words pass from Runai before. Tail twitching, the older male turned and headed deeper into the Maziko territory. Perhaps he'd see his oldest sister...

Rune continued to hobble off. Although perhaps.. he should try to find Mafa one more time before he leaves. It might be a while since he'd be back, and she might was well know that he wouldn't be around, so heck. Why should she look for him until he returns? Mmn. Maybe. Least he knew where that mother of his was.. that was enough for him.

Aaand done. 8D
