Answer something for the dumb American: Why does it seem that Cardiff is some great indignity? The Doctor is clearly disgusted that he is going to die in Cardiff (The Unquiet Dead) Margaret states that no one in the rest of the UK cares about Cardiff (Boom Town) and throughout all of Torchwood, people seem utterly unenthused about living in Cardiff. So, what's wrong with Cardiff? I couldn't figure out if this should go in the main forum or the Dr. Who forum, so I put it in here.

Another dumb American wants to know that, too... like in the Doctor Who episode The Unquiet Dead Rose is excited about everything until she learns they've landed in Cardiff...

Being british, I think most people dont hold Wales very highly XD The accent is funny, I love it when Owen sounds welsh when he said helpful XD
But seeing cardiff, I think it is a ffairly beautiful place from what I se, and I wish to visit it. Wales is like ... seen as farmland I believe, and I think the joke of it was that people thought they were less intelligent, I think XD

I love Cardiff. I've only been there once or twice, but it's nice there. It's a bit like a mix between London and Bath, I guess, but it feels cleaner and less dreary. My parents lived there for quite a while actually, 'cause my mum went to university there and my Dad worked in Bristol. Anyway..
I think it's more that people in England tend not to like the Welsh than anything else. The two boys I'm doing this Global Warming Film project thing with are really looking forward to all the supposed floods as it means Wales will be it's own seperate island rolleyes Seeing as Cardiff is capital of Wales, it's the worst place to be if you are one of these Welsh haters.

It's in Wales. In Wales it rains. A lot. And the Welsh are rude. Well, that's what people in England seem tot hink anyway.
I've been to Cardiff before, it's pretty nice. But I'd choose Abergavenny y Fenni anyday.

heh.
The thing about wales is the different dialects and accents. Take big brother as an example. Glyn had a terrible accent and spoke different welsh to what ... ho snap, what was her name. Was Imogen the welsh one o-o I think so. Well, she had a better accent but she I think had the more slang-welsh biggrin

Glyn's voice reminded very much of the accents of the people of Abergavenny y Fenny (a small village in rural Wales that my family go to). Imogen's was more...urbanised Welsh.
