Ok, so I know I'm new here and all, but here's the thing: we're all connected by one thing, and that's art and writing. So here it is for the writers. Have you ever wanted to rip your notebook into a million pieces because your writing is crappy, sappy, annoying, unrealistic, skewed, or just dumb? I have! And here's the place to vent your frustrations and get some help!

Please do not belittle other writers, and if you must say something, let it be helpful! This is a HELP... thing... yeah.

So, let 'em loose, and if you just have to go "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" this is the place to do it! biggrin heart

YES!! Often I come up with wonderful ideas for stories, and I'll write a couple of scenes, do character sketches, and get everything ready- history and what not- and then not know how to start the story off. It's happened several times.

Also, I'll write something and think it's cool when I'm writing it, then come back a couple of weeks later and read it again, then it's crap, but then I'll read it again a couple of weeks later and it's good again. It's weird- and frustrating.

I have a great story beginning idea... But I can never end it!

For Nytyngayl

don't worry too much. I once heard really good advice about writing. (this is if you have a lot of time) Write something, and put it away for six months. Then look at it again and see what you think of it now. Then make some changes if you need to, and put it away for another six months and check it again. Of course, six months is really stretching it, so I would make it more like a week. You can always change it back. As for the planning thing, here it is: I don't plan. I may do some research, but if you plan every detail, when characters take a life of their own, it no longer seems natural. I try to leave the inbetween kind of blank although I do pick an ending(sort of). Other writers it works for to plan it all out. Try a couple different ways and see what works out best for you. biggrin heart

For Skytile

You know, I have that problem a lot, too. I found that if I wrote short stories, I got used to making them longer and longer. Eventually, I could write something novel lengthand actually finish it. Also, having a due date will push you harder, so maybe you could have a friend read it's completed version on a certain date! Let the story write itself and you'll be fine! biggrin heart

I have a bad habit with starting one story, then starting on a whole new one. It's like a gift and a curse at the same time; A gift because anything that interest me I HAVE to write about it or something relating to it and a curse because I see another thing that interest me and I have to write that, but I'm not done with the one I started. Now I have 22 story ideas that haven't been started on yet or have yet to be finished. crying

Well, I find it really, really easy to come up with beautiful endings and dramatic beginnings and scenes, etc... but I can't do the stuffs between them to make the story all fit! It's just so annoying trying to come up with side-characters, small plots, and the stuff that happens between the major scenes without making them seem boring! xp
That and for some reason I find writing dialogue and conversations between characters EXTREMELY boring and hard to do. sweatdrop

hint: get a journal or a notebook and write down the details of your story idea. Then force yourself to finish the first one before you start on another one. biggrin heart good luck!

Ouch! Well, maybe it won't seem as annoying if you think of it this way: have you ever read like a fanfic or a short story by a young or new author? I have. Bleh! NOTHING but plot action. To add insult to injury, therewas no subltility. 'Bob woke up. Bob walked out the door. Bob got hit by a car. Bob died.' Who wants to read that? Think of your readers and how you'll be driving them crazy by not knowing. xd biggrin

Endings can be a bit of a problem for me. I'll think 'em out, and they'll be so perfect. Then I put 'em on paper, and it just lacks the drama and the feeling.

That's really my only problem (Thank God) I mean I always have ideas, lol, and I have a knack for good beginnings. With endings, well, let's just say I just feel when it's time to end. I'm one of those people who never plans a book. I just start and fit it all in, and it all works out well.

Ignore the work I put in the writing room, it's pretty misleading *laughs* the book I'm working on now is much better. Maybe I'll put it up later, but it has really long chapters.

I can understand where a lot of people have problems, though, like with doing it all in between, so maybe I can offer some advice to help you all out. If you ever find yourself stuck, try to play it out in your head, like a movie. Just lay back and daydream, lol. Sometimes it can jog your mind and help you to think something up. Another thing you can do is think back to some of your experiences. Sometimes you can think of something that fits in.

I hope that helped smile

Just some advice, we all write crap stories. It's inevitable. Just write it and get the crap done with then move onto writing something good. Not everything you write has to be "omg amazing!".

I get lazy when I'm writing and never finish things. I have grand ideas and dn't bother to write them down then when I feel the desire to work on something the idea's gone and I'm screwed.

I also can't write in chronological order. I'll have scenes from all over written out then have them work toegether somehow. It's crazy. @_@; I also write absolutely beautiful dialogue but then completely ignore narrative. And if I starte writing narratively dialogue goes right out the window. I have no happy medium.

And if you're stuck sometimes doing a freewrite helps a lot. =D You can get a lot of weird inspiration from those.

The one-word answer is "yes". I sometimes keep notebooks or papers for recording ideas, and occasionally I even go so far as to write scenes on the pages. But, I have no idea why, everything I write on paper seems to be dreadful. I am incapable of writing well with anything other than a computer. sweatdrop I've tried to reverse this trend by doing primary writings on the computer, then doing a revised version with a pen and paper, but inevitably the plain-paper writing turns out to be deplorably bad. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I can type much faster than I can write, I don't know.
