Secrets come and go, whispers upon the wind that breezed lazily through the swamp. Spirits, unseen to the eyes that wildly searched for something to believe in, teased and taunted of things one could only dream of. Johari was off exploring on her own, leaving her brothers and sister behind to do as they would. She was safe, she knew how to get around the swamps as good as any of them. The world was her playground, and she knew Mother and Father would catch hold of her if she wandered too far. But for now, it was her time alone, her time to shine and discover.

Eyes as clear as the greenest evergreen easily sought the best path before her, easily tumbling from one side of it to dodge a particularly large root, before dashing to the otherside to avoid what could only be guessed as a small bog pool that could easily pull the juvenile under. Indeed, the young one knew a lot of the swamplands, but not of /who/ roamed within. Not that she'd notice anyone around anyway, so deep in her own amusement, she was.

And though there were many dangers on the floor of the swamplands, there were also many dangers in the trees, as well.

Dathcharu'kai, otherwise known as Chaos, was bored with his life, and found himself in the swamplands. How the hell could anything live in such a gross land? He hadn't planned to stay here long, but the strange weather of the lands kept him in for a time longer. It was very different then what he was used to. But also, there were toys to play with in here.

His snake-slitted eyes watched the little form below him scamper around in the lands that she seemed to know. He noticed she was quite young, which meant some family had to be nearby, as well. Best be careful when there was parents involved. Even if they were invisible to the eye.

Never had she encountered dangers from above, and thus watching for such dangers were the furthest thing from the little one's mind. Purring softly to herself she, without hesitation, scampered around till she was directly underneath Dath's form, finding interest in a little iridescent bettle that scuttled along. She first touched it with a toe, letting loose a soft squeal of delight as it fluttered its wings but remained attached to the swamp floor. Becoming bolder, she stuck her nose against it to see if it would tickle her nose with its wings.

It wasn't but a moment later when the beetle's natural defense kicked in. Gagging, Johari stumbled back, eyes crossed staring at her nose which now reeked. The beetle had blown a puff of stink at her, getting her full on in the nose. "YICK!" came the response one could only chuckle at. Planting her nose firmly on the ground, she tried to bury it in dirt, swiping the soil up around her nose with her paws hoping to deaden the smell. Of course, it probably wouldn't help.

Something one of a good heart would chuckle at, but Dath could only snort in mild disgust at the little mortal's stupidity. Just what were mortals teaching each other these days? Nothing?

"Fool," he said rudely, his head rising up a bit in a proud stance. He let his tail drop down to swing underneath the branch, his wings lossening a bit to frame his red form. He knew that she would notice him now, but he didn't care too much. Something to play with before he left these lands that gave him a small shiver down his spine.

She froze. Her body was in quite the position, head down nose in the ground, butt waggling in the air. Johari's ears swivelled from a forward stance to flattening against her head. It was a strange voice that greeted her, neither that of her mother or father, nor of the other lionesses that inhabited the area. Yet Johari hadn't completely been taught the caution required for strangers. Slowly but surely, the juvenile lifted her head, first looking all around her to find no one. When that didn't work, she looked up.

Her first thought was not a thought at all. Her mouth agape, she stood in awe of his great size sitting upon the tree branch as he was. How'd he get up there? Her emerald eyes instantly became magents, rivetting to his wings almost immediately. "Whoaaaa." The word was the only thing she could spit out. Wings.... He had wings like a bird! A lion with wings!!! Dashing up to the tree, she stood on her hind legs, placing her paws against the tree trunk. He was in for it now....

"'Scuse me mister!!! Are those wings really yours?! How'd you get them? Why've you got them? Can you really fly with them? What's it like to fly like a bird?!" She paused for a breath, panting softly while she thought of more questions to shoot at him. If he hated chatty mortals, he would certainly hate her soon enough.

Daths' body tensed up when the little lioness jerked her head up, the stare of wide, curious eyes studying his body. He didn't mind admiration, but this was just....creepy. He did his best to not shiver, though he couldn't hold it all back.

He winced when, in one brilliant breath, she asked him a handful of questions. It felt more like a million, with how fast she spoke, but regardless, it was mroe then what the god could handle.

A strange, weighty silence filled the air as Dath's brain computed the questions that flooded his mind. Well, start from the beginning.

He flicked his tail in brief annoyance before starting. Just who was educating these children lately? "Yes, these wings are mine. I'm a god, and gods have wings. How else do we watch over silly little mortals like you, hmm?" He stretched out his pitch-black wings, letting her admire them a little more. Gods, he loved attention. "And I can fly like a bird with them...sort of." He cocked and eyebrown as he peered down at the golden girl, curious. Just why was she asking him so many questions about his wings, and nothing else. Not even his jewely? Or strange colouring? With mild disappointment, he sighed, wondering if she would throw another barrage of questions at him.

Johari continued to pant slightly, catching her breath as she stared at him in wonder and amazement. His explaination for the wings was enough to raise a dozen more questions in her head, but she kept quiet, the whole of him stunning enough to knock her speechless. Indeed she noticed his bright almost blood red coloration, and his jewlery, but those wings were his defining feature. They were as ebony as a raven's wing, and she dared to think that maybe they sparkled in the sunlight and possibly even shimmered with a handful of other colors within the black. Pawing at the tree, she wanted him to come down, she could get a better look. All he looked like was a larger version of her daddy, perhaps. He certainly wasn't anything to be scared of. Something that pretty was to be appreciated, not feared.

"Can I see them?! Up close I mean! Pleeeeeeease?" She put on her best 'puppy dog' face, a little pout upon her lips and her eyes wide with hopeful-ness. It always worked with daddy, hopefully this big guy would be no different. "Please?" She offered up again, her tail lashing from side to side in excitement. If he got closer, not only could she examine the wings themselves, but she would be more likely to appreciate his size and his color close up, as well as the sparkle of his jewelry, in which someone like him was almost CERTAIN to keep in perfect condition, shiny and smudge free.

Dathcharu'kai paused, pondering. She obviously was only absorbed in his dark wings, and decided that he would allow her, just for a little. Besides, this complete adoration aimed at him was making him feel pleased, if a bit irritated in the back of his mind. With a grunt, he stood up on the brach, the tree whining at his weight. He soon plodded onto the ground with another grunt, fluffing up his wings and mane before sitting down. The little mortal could come up to him if she wanted to see them so badly.

"Just make sure you don't mess them up," he said with a huff. Dath always had to look good, and he didn't want to have to bother with fixing them up after this little girl's grubby paws got all over them. Just the thought made him shiver, but perhaps that thought came a little too late.

Well, luck seemed to be on Dath's side this time around. Johari indeed bounded up to him, pleased he came down so readily despite his seemingly gruff nature. The juvenile slid to a stop just short of him though, careful to not to slam into him. Reverently, the youngster walked around the much, much larger male, admiring the feathered appendages from a much closer view. Her emerald eyes widened in amazement, as she glanced up under the wing itself, eyeing the attachment to his body, and the strength and power that the wings themselves visibly seemed to have. To life his enormous weight was a feat in itself, but for wings, feathers and bone, to do the same thing, was certainly a miracle upon miracles.

"Woooow!" Johari slowly reached out a paw, intent on touching one raven wing, but paused, reminded of his caution to not mess them up. Thinking better on the idea, the swampland princess stretched out her head, to rub her cheek lovingly along the downy soft feathers. "They're so soft!" she exclaimed, obviously pleased. Purring softly, the youngster closed her eyes, continuing to rub her cheek against his wing-feathers. It took a few moments before she was able to tear her attention away from them, only to become attracted by the blood red stones on his collar. Bounding in front of him, Johari nosed at them, before crossing her eyes and staring straight up into Dath's golden eyes. "What's your name?!"

If he wasn't a patient sort, or if he ever got bored of the attention, she was likely to become annoying /really/ fast. But for now, he was the center of attention, so he should be happy, right? One could only hope, for Johari's sake.

Dath grew a bit stiff when the golden cub bounced up to him, but she thankfully seemed to heed his words. He liked mortals, though not in the normal term 'like' was, but he could tolderate them better then some other gods that he knew of.

He lifted his wings up a bit when the little girl explored all around him to get a better look, feeling very prideful of his raven-black wings. They were a piece of his pride, as well as his horn, and he wore them with pride. He flinched when she rubbed against him, but he did never say to not do that. Foolish, but he would tolerate it. It had been a while since he had gotten such rapt attention from another. The only other ever really being Laana. But he could tell she admired him for a different reason. For what he looked like, and not who he was.

"Dathcharu'kai," he stated calmly. "Though it is usually a mouthful to repeat, so I will tolerate Dath." He didn't think it was needed to breathe what his name truely meant, and that the only thing alive to control his Chaos was his sister and his lover. No, she was too young to understand. And besdies, it might break his hold he had on her.

His lifting of his wings to allow closer inspection was a gesture Johari was VERY grateful of. However, he was wrong in his thinking that Johari liked him only for what he looked like. No, it was quite the opposite. She admired his wings, but to her, it meant so much more than just looks. The fact that he had them, made him so much more than he'd probably ever realize. Seeing him, and that he existed, and that lions DID have wings, opened a whole new door for Johari. Something substantial from her dreams that she could tangibly see and hold onto, with all the hopes in the world.

Johari's emerald gaze continued to stare into Dath's eyes, listening to him with both ears perked up in bliss. "Dath..." The word was breathed, airy in tone, almost a dreamy sound to her. This would be a name she would never forget. No, she would remember him, that much was certain. Almost hesitantly, she offered up her own name. "I'm known as Johari." If he knew the meaning behind the word, he would be left to understand why 'precious jewel' was used for the meaning, and why it was used upon her.

"What brings you around the swamps, Dath? We don't get many visitors. Certainly none as important and amazing as you." Genuine curiousity surrounded her words. How had someone as revered as him come upon the swamps? A hide like his was meant to be pristine, not to be mucking around in the slime and the mire. Then too, it could be said for her too, with a coat as lovely as her own, marred by mud and muck.

Dathcharu'kais' mind was lightly spinning from this female. Not from anything else but annoyance. He would deal with it now, as he felt the air around them seem to grow heavy. Was there a god that protected these swamplands? He tried to shake it off and focus on the little mortal that played in front of him.

He questioningly looked at her when she spoke his name, wondering what it was she desired, as the way she spoke it took him back a bit. Was she fascinated with him that deeply? He found it a tad....creepy. His ears perked up when she spoke again, asking a very general question. Why were you here? Nearly everyone he came across asked the same question.

"Merely passing through. I have never set foot in these lands, I was curious as to what lived here. I see there are jewels that live in such a muggy place, though." A play on her name, and he was sure that she would catch it.

Johari's ears perked up in pride and appreciation, interpreting his words exactly how he'd wanted her to.

"Well, I'm sure you'll not be disappointed here!" Contrary to her popular belief, he probably was already disappointed. But that didn't even cross her mind. "You get used to the muck though, its really rather pleasant. At least, I think so. Keeps me cool on the hot days!" She went on, prattling as if he had any inclination to care what on earth she said.

"I would say you should try it, but you're so... so... pretty, I couldn't dare say it." Breathing in awe, she couldn't help but admire Dath's shiny coat once more, nosing a feather once more. Oh yes, these wings... they were amazing, so tempting. She wanted them, yes she did. But the ideas swirling through her mind about wings and the possibility for lions like her having wings, had he been able to see, would've spun him around and around to the point of more than just mere dizziness.

Dath was quite grossed out at the idea of rolling in the bog, if that's what the girl meant. He could never dream about getting himself so gross jsut to cool off. If he wanted to cool off, he could just fly anywhere that was cooler then where he was, simple as that. He settled himself again, unable to really let this juvenile know that she was getting a bit too close to him.

He watched her with little interest as she snuggled up to his wings again. What was it with wings and women? There seemed to be a draw there, one that no one could deny existed. With that though, a smirk grew on his face as his attention grew with a soft fondness for the girl, though it wasn't with the best of intentions.

"You sure do seem to like my wings, don't you Johari?" He purred lightly at his comment, obviously killing two birds with one stone; setting up his plan while keeping that vain streak in him alive. Oooh, it did feel good, he had to admit.

Johari stepped back a moment, beaming up at Dath. "Yes! I really do! They're amazing!" The little golden lioness was more than just interested in them. She was inthralled.

"I want some! Just like you!" It wasn't a request. The little cub was boldly declaring, to the god of Chaos, that she wanted wings, just like him.

"When I grow up I'll have some. Just wait!" Johari bounced around the large god-lion, leaping into the air as far as her little legs would let her, as if she could leap up and sprout wings to fly with all at once.
