What was your first tube amp? Lately I've been getting the tube fever and I would very much like some tubage. I saw a Hot Rod Fender Deluxe amp at a local shop for $295 where it sells on musician's friend for $600. Is that a good deal and does anyone have any experience with this amp?

ANY information or advice is much appreciated as I am new to tube amps and want to learn as much as I can. Thank you much.

My brother got that amp, except his was played by B.B. King, so I guess it's a bluesy sound. It was pretty cool, we got to watch it be played by John Hiatt and B.B. King and a lot of other artists at the Santa Cruz Blues Festival. It was pretty awesome.

My tube fever is the High Gain one. I'd love either a Mesa Boogie Road King or 3 channel Dual Rectifier. ninja

I'm still on solid state, and somewhat prefer SS.
But if I was to get a Tube I'd get a Mesa Boogie Mark IV.

I am attempting to acquire myself a Mesa Express 5:50. It sounds to me like something I'd like.

metalcore501 Ok whats the differance between a tube amp and a solid state amp!? tubes use vacuum tubes to process the sound, while solid state uses chips. tubes amps when given a hotter signal(hotter pickups or a OD pedal) will get more gain, while solid state will just compress the sound(act like a compression pedal...tube amps due this also but only when you push the gain knob up to far, but not to the extent that solid state amps due) Solid state is also cheaper and sounds more "cold" or "dead" then tube amps due. the only real down side to a tube amp is that they have to be turned up to get a good sound, so they are horrible for bedroom players, and also they require more care, as the tubes need to be replaced, and biased, but most amps noadays come with a fixed bais so all you have to do is change the tube and go. also tube amps are louder per watt then solid state...around 3x ive heard...though im not sure how reliable that is(it was in guitar worlds tech ed section...that guy isnt exactly the best) but tubes are louder, which is why we see all these crazy 300 watt solid state amps

my first? well, i used an ADA Mp-1 thorugh a solid state Power Amp back a few years ago, but my first real tube setup was a 5150. then i moved to Mesa. A Dc-3, then a Mark II, first and now a Single Rectifier. I love my single rec. Best amp i've ever played.

metalcore501 Ok whats the differance between a tube amp and a solid state amp!? All amplifiers color the sound of the signal. The way tubes color the sound is more complex and pleasing to the ear. The sound is more "alive". Modern solid state amps sounds A LOT better than they did 20 years ago, because they are using digital signal processing to emulate what a tube does to the sound, but they have a long way to go before they can fully model the physics in a bank of glowing vacuum tubes. 409 in your coffee ANY information or advice is much appreciated I'd recommend looking for a used Peavey Classic 50 or Classic 30. Often referred to as a "poor man's Mesa-Boogie", these are very rugged, nice looking, nice sounding, loud and versatile tube amps. That have great clean channels for jazz or country, and a nearly-as-great dirty channel that can go anywhere from blues to metal (though you may want a little more gain for shred metal).
