I want to start listening to more Japanese music. But I'm not sure what I should check out. Anyone have any suggestions? I like the Pillows, and a few other Japanese songs I've heard. Like Utada Hikaru or Akeboshi. And as for American music I like lots of stuff, but mostly rock. But I'm open to new things.

It really just depends on your taste. What do you like when it comes to American style music?
I like Shounen Knife, but that's more of an unground group, and I like Yatta, but that's only for sentimental reasons. heart

American Music I like: Slipknot, Korn, Marylin Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Insane Clown Posse, Stone Temple Pilots, Tool, Guns N Roses and like a whole bunch more. I don't like country music and top 40 pop songs.

Nosada_the_Stealth American Music I like: Slipknot, Korn, Marylin Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Insane Clown Posse, Stone Temple Pilots, Tool, Guns N Roses and like a whole bunch more. I don't like country music and top 40 pop songs. Defiantly Dir En Grey. Gazette maybe. Alice Nine maybe. L'Arc En Ciel maybe. That's really it. All the other Japanese artists I know are a bit too "soft" it seems for your taste.

You'll definitely like Dir En Grey. (Or so I assume from your U.S. preferences) Possibly Alice Nine, and possibly Nightmare. @_@ I dunno.

OK is you open to new stuff. This isn't rock but if you want to go to the softy side then check out Yui ^ ^ I love her. Umm I honestly don't know very many Japanese artists who sing pop songs. I mostly liken to HK/Cpop or Kpop if I want to here anything like that.

You spelt KAT-TUN wrong T^T
Mmmmm if you like boy bands then any of the boy bands signed under Johnny's Entertainment / J-Storm..... hahah boy bands xDDDD Ummmm I like UVERworld because their songs have alot of really good meaning and depth. If you want UBER pop music like the opposite of boy bands because their female then any group signed under HELLO project would suit your taste xDDD I have sincer doubts that either of these will interest you, but just for the sake of broddening your horrizons check 'em out. : P
