CAPRICORN
"The Goat"
December 22 to January 20

Traditional Capricorn Traits:

Practical and prudent
Ambitious and disciplined
Patient and careful
Humorous and reserved

On the dark side....

Pessimistic and fatalistic
Miserly and grudging

Capricorn, the tenth Sign of the Zodiac, is all about hard work. Those born under this Sign are more than happy to put in a full day at the office, realizing that it will likely take a lot of those days to get to the top. That's no problem, since Capricorns are both ambitious and determined: they will get there. Life is one big project for these folks, and they adapt to this by adopting a businesslike approach to most everything they do. Capricorns are practical as well, taking things one step at a time and being as realistic and pragmatic as possible. The Capricorn-born are extremely dedicated to their goals, almost to the point of stubbornness. Boy, those victories sure smell sweet, though, and that thought alone will keep Capricorns going.

The Goat symbolizes Capricorns, and an apt mascot it is. Goats love to climb to the top of the mountain, where the air is clear and fresh. In much the same way, Capricorns want to get to the top of their chosen field so that they can reap the benefits of success; namely fame, prestige and money. Getting to the top isn't always a walk in the park, however, so it's likely that Goats will ruffle a few feathers along the way. These folks can indeed be domineering, even egotistical, on their route to the top. They'll tell you it's part of being a leader with bright new ideas (in keeping with the Cardinal Quality assigned to this Sign).

Capricorns are industrious, efficient, organized and won't make a lot of waves. They are scrupulous with details and adopt a rather conventional posture in business and in life. These folks feel best playing it safe, since this is a fail-safe way to get to the top -- eventually.

Thankfully, Capricorns are patient, too, and are happy to wait for their ship to come in. The flip side to this staid behavior is that Goats can become quite unforgiving of those who aren't as diligent or ambitious as they are. Capricorns need to remember that they do need allies along the way, ambitious or otherwise. In any case, once Capricorns receive the recognition and social status they so fervently crave, it's likely that all will be forgiven.

Name: Allie
Age: Mid-twenties
Occupation: Writer and Herbalist
Sexual Preference: Straight
Interests: Poetry, Reading, Witchcraft (the good kind)

Personality: Allie is very laid back, very complimentary and understanding to Lucien's drastic mood swings and distrust. Unlike Xerxes, she's very calm and more of a dreamer and a motherly figure than a chaotic figure in Lucien's life.

History: When Xerxes abandoned Lucien because he hadn't the means to take care of him, Lucien wandered alone and confused for a good amount of time, lurking in back alleyways out of sight and hiding in trash cans. He never heard from Xerxes again. One night, while exploring an empty park, he came upon a woman standing before a fire, talking to some higher power and fiddling with silver and clay instruments on a table. Sensing a presence, the woman turned, but didn't scream. Quite the contrary, she was kind and offered him something to eat and a chance to warm himself by the fire. After she finished whatever ceremony she had been working on, she gently started untangling his matted hair and polishing his dirty, clotted horns. She insisted, upon hearing his story, that he come home with her to a place where he would never want for anything again.

Xerxes's Journal Entry 1 - Jan. ?
(Can't remember the date I got it. gonk )

I was in the library today when the most peculiar thing happened. I was sitting in the basement amidst my normal pile of volumes, wishing that I had some sort of inspiration. I left for a moment to look for an anthology of literature so that I might gain inspiration from that and when I returned there was an orb sitting on the paper where I had been absent-mindedly doodling to pass the time.

There was no one around, I knew, because the library basement is always eerily quiet so no one likes to study or work there. I picked up the orb and studied it, noticing that it was filled with some sort of blue mist. There was a symbol inside and, after a bit of research, I decided it was one of the signs of the zodiac: a capricorn.

I know this orb has something to do with Jareth, he almost constantly has orbs floating around him somewhere; but why a capricorn? I'm an aquarius. Perhaps he got the sign wrong. I brought the orb home with me, but I don't know that I'll use it for more than a paperweight.

Xerxes Journal Entry 2 - Jan. 17

Things just keep getting stranger and stranger. I put the orb on my bedside table last night and this morning when I woke up it had somehow propelled itself into the bed with me and was tucked under the covers. As I went to put it back on the table, it made a slight vibrating motion as if it was cold.

I put the orb back under the covers and it made a gurgling, kind of cooing noise as if it were grateful. I'm starting to wonder whether or not something is actually living inside the strange ornament. It's actually pretty frightening. Being a starving poet, I can barely afford my flat, let alone afford to feed whatever it is that's growing inside that thing. Well, I'm certainly writing more now that it's here.

I think, for now at least, I'll call it Lucien... sounds like a strong name to me. Hopefully, whatever's living inside the orb is male. If not, she's in for an interesting ordeal...

Xerxes Journal Entry 3 - Jan. 19

Lucien seems content with me for now. I'm glad he's still in the orb; I haven't eaten all day and I don't know whether or not I'm going to be able to with this month's rent due tomorrow. I was able to sell a few of my books of poetry... it's a shame no one finds a poet remarkable and famous until after he or she is dead. It's no wonder poets die young.

My only complaint is that Lucien seems more and more impatient everyday with the long hours I keep in the library and in my room studying. He seems to want to explore all the time. When he will abide me long enough to stick around and not roll everywhere around the floor and into the walls, he's pleasant to listen to. He whispers and gurgles every now and then as if he's trying to critique my work... not that I know he knows how to read. He could be trying to tell me something, but how would I know?

I hope my payments pick up this week. My stomach feels so empty.

Xerxes Journal Entry 4 - Jan. 25

Was walking home from the library today and I decided to take a different route. It took me to this club that had some sort of Cupid theme. I went in hoping to pick someone up that might buy me a cheap lunch or something, but I wasn't there long before the owner, Nishi, had a contest and I won by luck of the draw, joining him for supper.

Nishi's very kind. He fed me the best meal and let me stay in his apartment. Lucien seemed to really like the music and excitement of the club, too. He definitely didn't learn any moves from me; I can't dance to save my life.

There's something about this Nishi... something hypnotic and mysterious. I really want to be around him more... get to know him. Hope Lucien doesn't mind; I'm sure he's glad to be out of the flat and the library, at least. He's so full of energy all the time, it's like having a child.

Xerxes Journal Entry 5 - Mar. 11 (Wow, I'm a slacker sweatdrop )

I haven't heard much from Nishi lately, but Lucien and I are getting along fairly well. I somehow managed to procure a full-time job at a local newspaper, but the pay is still very low. I get to eat at least once a day now, that's a relief, and I can pay for the small flat we're living in. I'm sure the librarians are relieved I'm not spending all my time in the basement of the library anymore. I could swear they probably thought I was some sort of serial killer...

I attended the Valentine's Day ball, but didn't stay long. I didn't really know anyone there and, as I said before, I'm a terrible dancer. But it was good to see Jareth. I probably should've asked him what to do with the orb he sent me.

Lucien gets more and more energized all the time. I don't know how he can do it without coffee or sugar. I could swear the energy he's got is going to crack that orb one of these days~ It's probably just a matter of time.

I hope he doesn't have to eat anything~ I don't know if I could afford to feed two.

Xerxes Journal Entry 6 - Mar. 12

I bumped into Nishi yesterday, along with a lot of other pretty men. I don't remember much of what happened immediately afterwards; I think I must have zoned out or fainted or something. I'm such a loser. neutral Anyway, Nishi told me we needed to talk about what happened the other night... I honestly don't remember what happened, I think I must've drunk too much wine, but I think he'd tell me if I did anything stupid. He said I was acting silly and then got angry at Lucien for dancing, but I was well behaved otherwise.

Though I don't know when I'll be able to make it again, Nishi invited me back to "Cupid", his club, again soon. He told me not to be so reclusive in not so many words. It was good seeing him again.

Lucien got way, way, way too excited when I told him I'd bumped into our old friend and he spent the day bouncing around the flat like a lightening bolt. I thought I'd go insane from the noise. Hope he grows out of this soon.

Lucien's Journal Entry 1 - Mar. 19

I am finally out of that bloody orb! Thank Jareth! I thought I would never get out of that thing. I can finally go where I want without Xerxes... well... sort of. He doesn't like to let me out of his sight. And he won't stop bloody scribbling about me. It's irritating really. I want to go out and have fun and he just wants to sit there and write! I knew he was boring from within the orb, but now, from without, he's even worse!

He promises me he'll take me back to Club Cupid soon so I can actually dance on somewhere besides the table. One is so limited when inside a glass orb! Now I can really move...

... oh, how I wish he'd hurry up!

Lucien's Journal Entry 2 - Apr. 2

I've decided that Xerxes can stay all caged up in that library basement if he wants; I'm not about to turn into a bump on a log loser like him. All that writing and no time for fun! How rediculous! But I guess he's happy that way so I shouldn't really complain.

I met two new undera today~ Youji and Natsuo. They're a bit strange and somewhat spastic. And they're always around one another - always. I was just minding my own business, reading yesterday and they jumped me, stole my book, and forced me to play these silly fighting video games. I don't know. I kind of like the two of them. At least it's company and at least they're nice to me. Maybe they'll make me more social~ Xerxes has never been very good at that.
