During my English class, we had a strange conversation about pregnancy. One of the idiots in our class wondered if you could get pregnant through a**l sex (male and girl sex, he wasn't THAT stupid). After laughing at him for a good 15 minutes, the substitute teacher sat us down for a little sex ed class. It was pretty much just "Abstinence, blah blah blah, don't have sex, blah blah blah, STDs, blah blah blah, a**l intercourse is bad.

Now, that got me thinking: Does abstinence work?

I, personally don't think so, as the desire to procreate is one of the strongest urges humans have. In the end, humans will break down and "do it". And, if they were only taught not to do it, they wouldn't know how TO do it. Then come the mistakes, the STDs, and the babies.

So, is it better to ignore it, or enlighten people?

What do you guys think?

P.S. The poll answers are supposed to be humorous, not offensive, ultra-liberal, or ultra-conservative!

Well that is an effective way to not become pregnant and not to get some types of STDs but what about us in the LGBT community! Abstinence means not to engage in sexual intercourse until after your married. The problem there is that we LGBT community members can't get married therefore that would mean we couldn't have sex.

Also how would you know if you just got married to someone who was bad at having sex?

And yes you can get pregnant through a**l sex between female and male humans because believe it or not the wall between the a**s and vaginal region is not very thick and sperm may get through it in some rare occasions.

I also think abstinence should be taught as well because either they're gonna try it. It's just good to let them know some of the honest consequences of having sex. With that said sex ed should also be taught. Make sure they know what to do so if they decide on a sexual life style they at least know how to be save.

I also think they should not treat the female ejaculation as 'just a myth', and 'conveniently' forget that the male prostate can be stimulated(Which is good for guys to be aware of so they know what their reaction could be in their 40's when they're going to the proctologist), or that the clitoris exists when drawing a diagram.

Kids are gonna do it. Weather or not they have b*****d offspring and contract STDs from it depends on weather or not people actually care about the next generation's knowledge or well-being.

Abstinence is bs. Noones not gonna have sex because the government tells them its bad. People need to be taught the possible consequences and how to protect themselves.
Abstinence is nothing but a total waste of government money.

Schools really do need to have good sex ed courses. That teach more then just "If you have sex you'll get an STI. And then you'll die. Don't have sex". They should have what we had two years ago.

These two women came, one who had AIDS and one who had a kid when she was a teenager. They were both very laid back and sort of free spirits. They talked about all these myths about sex and told us how the school board had decided that it was innapropriate to show students what an actual male p***s looked like. So somewhere in Canada there's a room full of fake penises. That's right.

The one woman also talked about how guys might tell thier girlfriends that they shouldn't use condoms cause you can't feel anything or that they're too big for a condom and stuff. She then called a girl down to the front and told her to put her arm out in the air straight in front of her. And then pulled a condom over her arm and it went up past her elbow without breaking. She then proceeded to tickle the girls arm with a feather through the condom.

She did tons more stuff like getting a guy and a girl to go to the front and made them try to put condoms on a woodie while they had those drunk goggles on. And a group of us went to the front and took glasses of water and poured half of our water in someone else cup three times. By the end we'd gone from three people in the group 'having STIs' to everyone having all three STI's. And the best part?

The flavored condom test taste. In the middle of the gym in a public school she put a couple different condoms on woodies, got a couple students who weren't allergic to latex to go up and lick the condoms. I thought my teacher was going to die.

hmm... i used to know the statistics.
there's a higher number of girls who choose to not have vaginal intercourse until marriage who have a**l sex than those who don't abstain.

and there is a higher number of STDs contracted because those who abstain are less likely to use protection.

i'm not sure what the numbers are but i'm very sure on those 2 statistics.

Very well said.

As for abstinance, I don't have sex because I don't want to, not because anyone tells me to, and if I have sex it will be because I want to, and it will very definatly involve contraception.

That's basically the bandstand of the entire christianized country of America and our current school system. Though I am a strong believer in abstinence, I recognize the fact that 9.9999 times out of 10 it will not work for most people. That is fairly common knowledge and yet our school system still buys Health books that have abstinence as the only option. You know people are going to have sex so why not teach them about protection?! It's better to have sex and be protected then be ignorant when the time finally comes when your hormones take over.

I'm not anti-premarital sex by any means. I'm just not planning on having sex (with a boy) until I'm in college because their ability to "control themselves" gets a frig of a lot better after 18. Girls, I'm game if she is.
