I have decided to do this topic since the new Texas Chainsaw Mascare film is coming (The Texas Chainsaw Masacre:The begining) Is the Texas Chainsaw Masacre based on a true story ?
What do you think?
Have you heard any stories or myths about it ?
I think its sort of bullshit but people do believe it could be true mrgreen

Leatherface is a fictional character first off. However, Leatherface/Thomas Hewiit was inspired by the famous Wisconsin serial killer named Ed Gein. He never used a chain saw, but did like to put human body parts in his house to decorate.
You can read more about this serial killer:

Not only Ed Gein, but I've heard rumors from a few people (Again, only rumors) of there actually having been murders in Texas with chainsaws as murder weapons.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is BASED off a REAL killer. He killed people and used their skin for like, furniture and what not. It's a BASED movie. Not a TRUE one. And I have to say, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original) is the best horror movie ever! The ONLY horror movie to scare me so bad, I cry. (true story!)

While cool on film, chainsaws are a totally impractical weapon for murder, the weight will slow you down if running, the sound makes is impossible to sneak up on someone, and it'd leave way too much evidence. The chainsaw isn't even a good way to cut up a body, it'd make a mess, and you'd possibly asphyxiate if you were not in a well ventilated area.

Ed Gein is the inspiration of Leatherface from the skin wearing standpoint, the chainsaw concept came from Tobe Hooper's visit to a hardware store and deciding that a chainsaw would be a good way to get through a crowd.

Buffalo Bill from The Silence of the Lambs, and possibly Francis Dohlerhyde from Red Dragon are also based upon Ed Gein.

I live in Texas and will contribute this. the movie is completely fictional. there is only one account to my recollection where a person was murdered by chainsaw and it was basicly out of anger from losing a job or something. as for Ed Geine he also inspired, Silence of the Lambs antagonist buffalo bill.
