I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but recently in the book stores I came across novalized manga. Personally I think that this is by far an extremely stupid idea, manga is manga, and yaoi is yaoi. and slash is slash. to me its annoying that they would try to put manga in book form. other people's input?

Ah... ever think that maybe the Manga was made from a book? I know a lot of mangas that were first books, but I don't know any that were the other way around. Could you please name a few?

With that said though, I don't really see anything wrong with it. It's like a Movie being made and then the book. Sometimes it gives you info as well as the thoughts of characters, sometimes it even helps to point out things you may have never noticed; other times it's exactly the same. There's nothing really wrong with it.

And this'll probably be moved into Non Slash/Yaoi discussion soon cause it doesn't really have anything to do with Slash/Yaoi, unless you're mainly talking about Yaoi/slash mangas.

yea they are about yaoi. i know for fact that there are atleast two of them, 1. only the ring finger knows 2. gravitation

in my opinion they shouldn't write books but instead release more manga. i dunno i'm probably just a young calloused person that prefers to keep manga as manga and books as books.

Only the Ring Finger Knows was a series of books before it became a Manga, I'm not too sure about Gravitation, but I think it might have been the same thing too, a book before a Manga I mean, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm only 100% sure about Only the Ring finger Knows, cause it says in the Artist/author notes that they did this manga based on one of the story out of the three books. ^^

It depends on if they ruin the story line or not by making it so thick....

I think it's a very lame attempt at making more monies. And, Gravitation is the SUCK. talk2hand Ring finger was cute, and I am the hugest f** for admitting that. But it would piss me off to have to read it in word form. So... god bless my American ADD, I guess. (Thumbs down.)

OTRFK was origanlly written as a novel though, and the Graphic novel only covers the first part of the first book... sweatdrop

Oh, sure it was a Wordity McWord book before- but that doesn't negate its utter awesomeness for being transformed into an easily digested picture book for the masses. I stand by that I would never read a translation-- mostly because they really just suck.

Aside from Only the Ring Finger knows, which was a set of novels turned into a manga, these other things you're running across are not "novelized manga" they're original yaoi novels, which seem to be quite prevelant and popular in Japan. Now that Yaoi is growing in the US, we're getting a taste of them here, for better or for worse...

Gravitation was manga first, then anime. The novel seems to have come later, and from what I've heard is not so good.

Only the Ring Finger knows novels are pretty decent, though a bit redundant, recycling the same themes over and over.

The other yaoi novels I've read are awful. Just like some yaoi manga can be crap, the novels were just so unappealing. The story was so flat and since it's translated form Japanese, there's something off about it. It doesn't have the same feel as a work written in English. I'm not sure if that's because it was originally Japanese and was actually written in such a way or if that's just the translation. But it really wasn't all that great.

>< I had no idea about the novels comming first instead of the manga in Only the Ring Finger Knows.

to me though, the novels are sortof like a sequal. sometimes they can be good, but the majority of the time there not.

If a novel comes out before a Manga, it's more like the manga's a sequel, not the novel. sweatdrop Well that's what I think anyway.

But as This is Major Tom said, the Translated novels are sometimes not as good because they lose something in the translation so it's not the the majority isn't good, it's that the people who translated the novels didn't do that good a job. (I also like the OTRFK novels, though I have yet to read the second and third novel :sweat) All in all, I just recon we should all learn Japanese so that we can read them in their raw form and hopefully have them make more sense. ^^

The Ai no Kusabi Novel is due out I think by June Manga in 2008. <.< Having read the spanish to english translations it's pretty hot @.@ I can't wait to read it...

I've read the first Gravitation novel... it's not bad, it's just pretty much standard fair for the series. Of course, Gravi was a manga before *but* anyway the novel is pretty on par with the rest of gravi, so I wouldn't call it bad, but I wouldn't call it good either. I like the book far better than the megamixes.

Anyway the problem with translating these novels into english is that Yaoi novels are written a specific way. If the translator screws it up, it can really ruin the book.

As for Novels in general, actually a lot of anime or manga were books before

My Sexual Harrasment (Boku no Sexual Harrasment)- Book before Anime
Ai no Kusabi- book before anime
Only the Ring Finger Knows- book before manga
There's another one out by June but my brain is fried on it.

Also one of the biggest Yuri/Girl-love series ever, "The Virgin Mary is Watching" is huge series of Novels, before the two manga series, and currently runing anime. I think the 20th volume just came out <.<

(Those are just off the top of my head, I'm sure they're are more)

*shrugs* I don't know, I'm kind of happy the novels are finally reaching the states. However, given that we tend to have a lot of movie novelizations, I can see why these books would be thought of as coming second instead of first like they were <.<
