What appeals to you most about the Suikoden series?
I think the two things that appeal to me the most would be the large cast of characters and the games' theme of fighting angainst tyrany.
The large cast of characters helps bring the games to liife in my opinion. Instead of faceless people who are dressed alike, in every town you meet a person who is unique who wears thier own clothes and has thier own face. Sure the games still have faceless minion characters that inhabit each town, but the 108 stars and the cast of bad guys help out a lot.
The other thing I like is the way in each game a group of people are forced to unite to fight off some sort of tyrany to either gain thier freedom (like in first game) or preserve thier independecne (like the second and third game). I haven't played the fourth game yet so I don't know if it shares a similar theme or not, but the idea really appeals to me. I especialy liked how in the begining of the first game you aren't sure if it would be worth stirring up a civil war and causing bloodshed for the cause of freedom, but then something happens that helps you decide. ...

The continuity of the series. Many RPGs don't actually continue the preceded storyline of its predecessors, and that's what I like about Koden.

i like the rural setting of the games, i don't usually like rpg's that take place in a neo-tokyo setting. i like the how the story continues with each game. i like the amount of characters you can use.

What appeals to me about the Suikoden games are the longevity of the series, the enormous characters that you have to choose from and in the 1st one(since I havent played any of the other ones) is having a huge castle to store your party in. I also like how you have different battle styles too.

The thing that appeals me is the vast characters in the Suiko universe & the stories of the games.

The characters is what really got me into Suikoden (not counting Keo's push mad P: ) Suikoden 1 and 2 did it best, but I'm a Flik fangirl, so you could see why.

Other than the things mentioned the most appealing thing about Suikoden 1 & 2 was all of the hand drawn art work. The story of course was the heart of it but the look that it had was just awsome. It gave it a human feeling to it like a story really being told. I'm not one for 3-D gfx when it comes to RPG's because they spend so much time trying to make that 'one' explosion or monster look really good but the story is really lame.
Take Fable for example. The grapics are friggin beautiful but the story was kinda weak and the twists predictable. On top of that it made less sense for my friends because by the time they got to the end game they were old men but the rest of the world was young... real time aging my a**...
Then again my taste in games doesnt really matter since I'm no longer the target audiance and I'm left with my old school library. I'm still the only person I know that owns the entire harvest moon series... then again I bought the entire .hack series and never opened them. Same goes for suikoden 3. stare

Uhh... I have the PSX and GC Harvest Moon games... I haven't touched the .hack collection either... Maybe I should send you my game and book lists...
To stay on topic, I really like the characters and character art. The ability to have six characters in your party gave you the change to mix and match your favorites, and also added more strategy to battle (all mages, all fighters, or a mix?). I still wish that the underappreciated characters (AKA my favorites) had more time in the spotlight... sweatdrop

Suikoden has probably one of the deeper storylines that is comprehensable to a casual gamer. The rural setting, the beautiful 2D graphics of the first two games, the Castle concept, and depressing yet meaningful story has captured my interest for all the games.
