She speaks to the ocean .. and the ocean hears her.

User Image
Name: Naiya
Nicknames: Dollie, Nai, Aya
Stage: Teen
Gender: Female
Height: Hasn't been measured yet
Weight: 7.5st
Skin Tone: Almost vampiric complexion
Hair Color: Dark blue
Hair Style: Feathered around her face, just past her chin
Eye Color: Deep blue eyes
Occupation: Too young.

Clothes: Upon reaching childhood, Naiya's dress sense has changed - she now prefers to wear a simple blue summer dress, keeping both her hat and the shell she wore before. (The shell is now worn around her neck, however.) Oddest of all, a fin appears to be protruding from her back; but she has not noticed this, as her memory was erased during her growth.
As a teenager, Naiya has chosen to stop wearing dresses and instead wears jeans - swapping her previous footwear for azure blue boots. She seems a lot more self-conscious now, and her fins have grown as much as she has, now looking like wings.

Personality: Introverted, insecure, self-conscious, bright, curious
Sexuality: Straight. (Or so I'd assume..)
Love Interest: None.
Best Friend: None.
Likes: The sea, beaches, water, shells, dresses, her hat, any shade of blue, asking questions.
Dislikes: Heights, being away from water, having company when she doesn't want it, not having questions answered.
Favorite Color(s): Any shade of blue.
Least Favorite Color: Red.

Brief History: Naiya was purchased from the girls at Bellus Pupa. She was notoriously unpopular for some unfathomable reason; strangely, another doll was equally as unpopular. (Epi believes this doll is named 'Ishmael', and belongs to a girl named 'Agent Sinistra'.)
Not much else is known, apart from that Bellus Pupa has a reputation for vending 'possessed' dolls.
After her second growth - her progression into 'proper' childhood, - she found her fish-soul had become somewhat dormant; the reasons for this are unknown. Now, her human-soul is the most active, causing her to constantly question things around her and why everything is the way it is. Epi, her new carer, believes this change of power was caused by loss of contact from the Sea Mother.. but when will she make her return?
As a teenager, Naiya is beginning to recall memories from her distant past - her fish-soul has awakened, leading to a relapse of the first conflict within her.
Reaching the peak of her existence (for the moment, anyway,) Naiya is enjoying life as an adult. She is finally able to begin harnessing the abilities she has held for so long, and simply been too inexperienced to notice. The desire to explore these newfound powers is overwhelming, and as a result, she is rarely found at home - instead, she is seen on the beach or in the sea.

Stages: Dormant doll; Active doll; Child; Teen; Adult; ???.

Naiya types in dark blue or indigo.

We sit here, the Mountain and I, until only the Mountain remains.

User Image
Name: Renn de Noiizis
Nicknames: Renn, Ray-ray, R
Age: Nineteen
Gender: Female
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 8st
Skin Tone: Milky
Hair Color: Black
Hair Style: Shoulder-length, feathered
Eye Color: Dark brown, almost black
Occupation: Florist

Clothes: Peculiar, and yet they suit her. It's not strange to see her wearing extravagant pieces as everyday outfits - her flamboyance is often the cause of envy and ridicule from those who don't understand her

Personality: Quiet and reserved - the complete opposite of her fashion statement, - she is far more partial to a night in with a good book and a mug of hot chocolate than to go out clubbing. Loyal to those she befriends and trusts, a foe to be reckoned with to those who anger her or hurt any of her friends
Sexuality: Bisexual
Love Interest: None
Best Friend: Her garden?
Likes: Animals, flowers, nature, reading, coffee, hot chocolate, being outdoors, long walks
Dislikes: Small spaces, confinement, conflict, violence, classical music

A physical manifestation of flamboyance..

User Image
Name: Vae
Nicknames: V
Race: Imp
Gender: Male
Height: 9 inches
Weight: Feather-light
Skin Tone: Blue
Hair Color: Silver with blue tints
Hair Style: A cute and scruffy bob
Eye Color: Silver
Occupation: Pain in the arse

Clothes: Very feminine. He's fashioned himself a corset-like top to cover his torso, and wears a strange skirt (which curiously matches his wings) with suspenders and jean legs on his bottom half. A cross between a sorcerer's hat and a winter hat sits atop his head, the colours matching the flowery 'necklace' he wears. Strange gloves which cover his arms are also worn, the silver cuffs matching the colour of his corset. V is definitely one co-ordinated imp!

Personality: A very mischievous young imp, Vae has a reputation for annoying people by constantly demanding hugs. He's also very curious. Known primarily for his flamboyance and confidence, Renn has certainly met her match with this boy
Sexuality: Homosexual
Love Interest: None
Best Friend: None
Likes: Signs of affection, flying, wreaking havoc
Dislikes: Women fawning over him, homophobes
Favorite Color(s): Blue and silver
Least Favorite Color: Green and yellow

Brief History: He emerged from a box given to Renn by Hansi - nothing more is known

Vae types in steel blue or dodger blue.

February 8, 2006

About a week had passed since Windy had purchased the rather intriguing doll from Bellus Pupa, and she had promptly decided that it needed a name. With that, the porcelain girl became known to both guests and members of the household as 'Naiya'. Naiya was often seen atop the mantleplace, keeping an eye on Windy's business in the kitchen. However, as night fell, the doll was usually moved to the woman's bedroom, to offer as some form of comfort and company.

This afternoon, Naiya was face-down on the carpet. Nobody knew how she had come to be that way - the most common theory being she was pushed by a rogue gust of wind, - but a few of Windy's companions decided the doll was alive. (Windy was quick to accuse them of being insane, though secretly she agreed with them. No doll moves by itself, and the February winds struggled to sift through the windowpanes and doorframes.)

As Windy shot through the narrow space which divided the kitchen and lounge, her eyes fell upon the fallen doll. Frowning and creasing her brows, she hurried forward and scooped up Naiya.
"Oh, Naiya. You silly girl. What are you doing there, on the floor? Look at your face! It's all dirty!"

Clicking her tongue and wiping at the marks with her thumb, she shook her head and turned back towards the kitchen, heading for the sink and carrying Naiya with her. Soon enough, the two were stood over the basin, Windy quickly removing Naiya's beret.
"Let's get you cleaned up, shall we?" she murmured softly, running the tap and grabbing a cloth. Dampening the cloth, Windy rubbed at Naiya's painted face gently until all the dirt was gone.
"There, much better. Now, please don't fling yourself off shelves and mantlepieces - you might end up broken!"

Smiling fondly, she headed back to the mantlepiece, and placed Naiya back in the same place as before. Pondering over it, she blinked softly. Maybe that was one of those event things that she'd heard about, before the dolls "came alive"? It wasn't as though their living was a COMPLETE rumour.. Two of the other owners had had their dolls come to life, so why not hers?

Only time would tell, it seemed.

February 21, 2006

On the morning of February 21st, Windy had not anticipated that she would be sent on a merrily infuriating game of hide-and-seek. Least of all with a 'living' doll; and so, chapter two of Naiya?s story unravelled?

The day had begun as normally as I could have expected - I awoke at 6am sharp to the shrill cry of my old-school alarm clock, groggily pulled myself out of my bed's warm embrace, headed for the bathroom for my morning's shower? All went according to plan, as they had been doing for the past few weeks. I'd almost forgotten about the strange doll who took pride of place atop my vintage mantelpiece, attracting the eye of visitors. (Not just because of how realistic she looked, but because it was certainly a strange thing to have such an old mantelpiece in such a modern apartment.)

Upon entering the living room, I nearly had the shock of my life. Naiya was leaning casually against my favourite candle-holder, and staring in bewilderment at the photo of me with Rosemary, my phoenix child. She seemed so enthralled by this picture that my entrance was barely noticed, aside from when I stepped closer. Surely it wasn't my Naiya? My Naiya was just a doll, an inanimate object ? this thing was moving quite freely, not unlike the way humans do. I was awestruck by this point, until she decided to break the silence.

"Tall Finless?" she whispered, pointing from the photograph to me. I was simply lost for words; there's no other way to describe my feelings at that specific point in time. I literally felt like shouting that well-used internet abbreviation, "WTF?". It summed up all of my emotions in three simple letters. (Not to mention cut out the frowned-upon aspect of that particular phrase.)

"Tall Finless?" the doll repeated, now gazing into my eyes hopefully. Now, the scales on her cheeks glimmered more so, and seemed to be moving of their own accord. Though I was uncertain of whether she'd recognise the name I'd bestowed upon her or not, I chose to call her by it and see what happened.

"Naiya?" I questioned, moving ever closer. The doll nodded softly, before running to the edge of the mantelpiece and taking a flying leap, targeting her miniscule form at my shoulder. Her jump fell a little short, but those long arms of hers enabled her to establish a sturdy grip on my shirt. Yep, it was definitely my Naiya.

After the shock of seeing Naiya living subsided, Windy thought the day's events had exhausted themselves - however, it seemed as though they had barely just begun. As she left to take her morning walk, the femme chose to leave her doll at home - she had promptly fallen asleep, after that testing leap of faith. (And it was, quite literally, a leap of faith.)

It seemed as though the two souls inhabiting Naiya had begun to conflict. The previously dormant human-soul wished to communicate with Windy, to learn all there was to know about the great outdoors; however, the fish-soul had no greater desire than to be reunited with the Sea Mother. Something which, given her less-than-aquatic form, could potentially kill her...

February 27, 2006

"Naiya... Naiya... My beloved daughter, Naiya..."

Her voice, soothing as the waves, called to me from somewhere unknown. I had been watching the tide from the comfort of my windowsill, but upon hearing that voice, I lost interest. I sat, completely still, just waiting. I daren't move my cold, porcelain limbs for fear the voice would fade.

"Come back to me, Naiya... My beloved daughter, Naiya..."

I recognised it to be the one I love all above all others; her, my gracious Sea Mother. She had not forgotten about me, she still cared! It came as a great relief, to know I was still loved. I longed to reply to her, but I didn't know how.

"Do you remember me, Naiya...? Do you remember...?"

Her tone had subsided to a whisper, mimicking the sea's movements. My gaze was cast back to the view of the beach, with its golden sands and azure seas. Fragments of my memory replaced space which had previously been void, as images of my past lives began to show themselves - but I struggled to comprehend them.

"Naiya, never forget who you are... I must leave you, now... I wish you luck, my beloved daughter... I love you..."

Tears stung at my lids as her soothing tone faded into silence. I was left with nothing but my thoughts, and the images she had imprinted on my memory; images which I feel I should describe now.

The first is of a beach - a girl walking along the shore, holding a shell to her chest. She has raven-black hair, cut to her chin and layered. Her eyes are hidden behind her locks, but her general mood seems to be distressed and upset.
The second is of the beach, again; but this time, close to the shore. The girl from before is kneeling beside a dolphin, trying to heal a wound - what wound that is, I do not know.
The final image is of the dolphin from before swimming through the sea - the shell the girl was wearing hangs around its neck by a leather braid.
I do not understand these images, nor do I comprehend their significance.

My thoughts threatened to drown me just a few hours later, so I thought I would visit the beach for myself. I asked you to take me there, and you did... but while you were dozing in the sun, I headed for the waves. I stood, exactly where the girl had, and looked around for any clues, or anything. I felt nothing; found nothing. I continued to search, but to no avail.
Then, she called to me again; from the seabed. I felt I was drawn into the waves, so I stepped forward into them, allowing them to lap around my body... I tried diving, forgetting my stiff limbs, and just fell. The currents dragged me around for a while, until you came and rescued me... I felt as though I was being choked as you pulled me out of the water; the gills embedded in my cheeks had begun to work, but I think it was best that you saved me.

I am still in conflict now.. One side of me is aquatic, and longs to be in water.. But the other side tells me the water is dangerous, I should be on land, where I belong.. What am I to do?

June 13, 2006

I received the shock of my life, this morning.. It had never occurred to me that my sister, Windy, might have a child that she neglected to mention.. I entered her house with the key she had bestowed upon me with the intention of ridding her residence of anything she may have left in her will to various family members, and instead was greeted by a small girl, standing by the window overlooking the beach. A single tear ran down her cheek as she turned to look at me; this tear quickly evaporating in favour of a curious look, boring into my eyes. I couldn't see any resemblance between her and my sister, but decided against questioning it for now.

"Hello there, little girl.." I began, slowly stepping forward and crouching so I was on the same level as her. The girl frowned, taking the shell from around her neck and nervously sucking on it. I persisted, extending my hand in the hope of shaking hers. She softly shook her head, pressing her back against the wall. "I'm not here to hurt you..." I said, staying where I was. My intention was to find out who she was and why she was here, and I was definitely not going to achieve that by scaring her. After a few minutes of silence, she began to speak.

"Naiya," she whispered. "I am Naiya."
A type of serenity hung around her as she stood so uncertainly before me. I considered explaining Windy's death, but thought that would be foolish with Naiya at such a young age. A lost look lingered in her eyes; it was then that I decided I would take over care of her. I would raise her as my own, and as Windy would have liked me to - there was no way I would be able to turn away, with her so young, innocent and defenseless.

"How long have you been here?" I asked her. She shrugged lightly, moving forward and wrapping her arms around my waist. As she did so, I noticed something odd protruding from her back - as I continued to examine it, I recognised it - nay, them - to be fins.
This was no ordinary child..

June 14, 2006

It has been a day since care of the young girl named Naiya was passed on to me. She is, thoroughly, a quiet soul - generally quite content to keep herself to herself while I clean and do other such things; but at the same time, she is unafraid to speak her mind and ask questions. Her questions are not the type I would expect from a girl of her age, let alone her size. (When I first saw her, I imagined she was about five or six years old.)

She speaks of a wisdom beyond her years, and her questions stretch far beyond the realm of childish intrigue - 'why is the sky blue?', 'where do babies come from?' and so on, and so forth. When I ask her anything about herself, she suddenly seems vacant and unresponsive, though.

I have decided that the time is nearing for me to teach her other skills - though she is clearly talented in speech already, her writing skills (as well as other talents) seem rather lacking or simply not there at all. Because of the fin-like addition to her back, I feel as though swimming should be a prime focus. I intend to take her swimming some time soon, perhaps at the beach, as she seems so attached to it.

“Mummy… Can I tell you something…?”

The tentative intrusion of a young girl’s words stole Epi’s attention away from the television and towards the eyes of her adopted daughter, a strange fish-like girl named Naiya. However, her face looked gaunt in the dim light of the flickering screen, and her eyes looked tearful and generally quite sad. Epi immediately feared the worst and moved from the sofa to kneel in front of her daughter, gently placing her hands on the girl’s shoulders.

“What’s wrong, Naiya?” she asked gently. Naiya refrained from replying for a moment – instead, she fiddled with the end of her nightdress, avoiding the watchful eyes of her mother.
“Mummy, I… I had a bad dream, and…” Naiya fell silent. She hung her head in a way which made her look ashamed, and caused Epi to softly wrap her arms around the child’s slender frame. “… The sea, it… It ate me, Mummy… And it told me nasty things…”

Her lips quivered, the fins on her back shivering in a similar fashion. Epi pulled away from her daughter to gaze into her eyes, a look of worry painted on every available part of her face.
“Oh, honey…” she breathed softly. “It was only a dream, don’t worry – and Mummy’s here for you, anyway. Do you want to stay down here with me for a little bit? You look shaken, and I don’t want you being alone if you’re scared.”

Naiya nodded speechlessly, before shuffling towards the sofa and hoisting herself into it. Together, the two sat for quite some time; mother and adopted daughter, braving the night as a unit. Epi felt a sinking feeling bury itself in the pit of her stomach, a physical embodiment of the worries she bore since the day Naiya had began to speak for the first time. The issues between the fish-soul and the Sea Mother had, quite obviously, yet to be resolved.
