(Ryan, 0%)

The sun was a little way over the tree tops, and already it was well into the high eighties. It didn't deter Ryan though, as he walked along the treeline, looking for lizards and such.

It was the only thing he could think of to do. Anything else and he'd starting thinking about his fate. He was so preoccupied that he didn't notice if anyone else was coming.

Alan also walked along the treeline, trying out his new proto-hooves on the uneven terrain. It was definitely going to take some getting used to, especially since he had spent 40+ years on regular, human feet. With a strange, unusual determination, he had decided that as soon as the soreness had worn off, he would get used to these new features. If he couldn't stop the changes from coming, he would get in control of them, God damnit!

The crunching of feet in his newly elongated ears caught his attention, and Alan turned his now longer face to see what the octopus called a "normie" walking along the treeline as well. It didn't look like someone he knew...Alan walked forward and tried to mind his own business.

There! There was a Cuban Knight Anole up in a tree. It was slightly high up though, so he'd have to climb up and get it. Grabbing the trunk, he pulled himself up a bit and made a grab for one of the lower branches.

Unfortunately, the bark was roughr than he realized, and it immeadiatly cut into his hands. With a bit of a shout, he dropped to the ground, holding his bleeding hands. He noticed, despite the pain, that there was someone fairly close by, and he immeadiatly felt embarrased that someone had seen him doing a stupid stunt like that.

As he looked up, a bit red in the face, the color quickly drained. The person in front of him was a lot more changed than the other people he had seen. His mouth worked a bit, trying to form words.

"Oh...um...h-hello?

Alan frowned as the new person seemed to grab one of the trees, only to cut his hands. Not very smart, is he? he thought lazily.

The young man looked up at Alan, the color draining from his unchanged face, as his mouth gaped open like he was (in Alan's opinion) having a seizure of some sort. The gears started to turn, and Alan came to the stark conclusion that this one must be BRAND new, and that the half-donkey would have to break the news to him.

"Hello," he replied, trying to look as friendly as he could with his grotesquely long face and ears. "You're new, aren't you?"

Ryan resisted the urge to wipe his hands on his clothes, instead concentraiting on pulling out the splinters, gritting his teeth as he did.

Trying not to stare too much at the man's appearence, Ryan tried to regain his composure. "Yeah, um, pretty new. I know about the whole thing already, though. I just hadn't seen anyone so far before."

"My name's Ryan." He started to put out his hand as if to shake, but he remembered that his hands were still bloody.

Alan stared at the blood stained hand of the young man in disgust, and did not take it.

"Alan," he said curtly, looking at the hand. "You don't have a disease, do you? AIDS, HIV?"

Ryan replied with a straight face as he pulled his hand back, but with a slight sarcastic undertone. "Why? Are you afraid you'll catch some horrible, life changing disease?" He flexed his fingers. The palms of his hands were throbing, but he didn't let it show.

"All I've got is some Armadillo in me. What about you?" Normally Ryan could have guessed the animal rather quickly, but hoofstock weren't his strong point, especialy not when all he had to go by were ears and hooves.

"Well, you can never tell nowadays," Alan replied, not catching on Ryan's saracastic undertones. "You should really be careful. We're stuck here in hell on Earth, turning into ANIMALS for Christ's sake; the last thing I need is to catch a disease that'll slowly kill me too." He looked back up at the young man. "You never know, whatever they injected you with could get into my blood and then I'll be even more of a freak."

Alan took a step back. "Can't you tell by the long ears?" he asked. "Well, if you can't tell, I'd rather not say. Do you mind? I find it a little degrading, personally." He inspected the young man, peering into his frightened eyes.

"Armadillo, eh? What use could they possibly have for that?"

He shrugged his shoulder's a bit. "Meh, for all I know being turned into animals is slowly killing us already." Ryan knew just how to cheer people up.

Ryan put his hand on his chin, looking at Alan as though he was appraising a peice of art. "Hmm, well, I can't tell if you're in the Perissodactyla or Artiodactyla Order, so that leaves a lot of animals you could be, but you're definitly an ungulate. You could be a Mule Deer, Kudu, waterbuck, donkey, horse, I don't know. It's fine if you don't want to tell me, but seeing how everyone here is being turned into an animal, I don''t see anything to be ashamed about."

"I have no idea. What use do they have turning you into hoofstock?"

Alan raised an eyebrow at the young man's impressive listing. When he mentioned the donkey, however, Alan couldn't help but become visibly surprised at the correct guess, his eyes going wide and a very low but very audible "haw" hickupping from his throat.

How could someone so young know so much about these animals...? he asked himself. The thought of Feral Labs, one of the whitecoats, crossed his mind. Hadn't a few crossed the fence already, so to speak? The ink of susipcion slowly entered his mind.

"I'm not sure...maybe for strength?" Alan asked, a little wary.

Ryan's own eyebrows went up when Alan made the noise. Definitly a donkey then. He didn't see why the guy wanted to hide what he was. Sure, Ryan didn't like donkeys; he didn't like most hoofstock in fact. But still, there were a lot of worse animals he could be. Oh well. If the guy wanted to keep it a secret, Ryan wouldn't bring it up.

He shrugged his shoulders again. "Maybe for strength, maybe for endurance, who knows? But that goes back to the real question: why are they doing this at all?"

The blood on his hands was starting to dry. (the physical blood anyway; he had blood on his hands in more than one way) He'd have to remember to disinfect them later. "Say, do you know if there's any hydrogen peroxide in the cafeteria or that area?"
PostPosted: Wed Jan 10, 2007 2:42 pm

Alan continued to eye the young man suspiciously.

"Hydrogen peroxide?" he asked, playing dumb and trying to be inconvienent. "I'm not quite sure..." Alan stared at the younger man, narrowing his widened eyes a small ammount. "What would you need that for?"

Alan crossed his arms, trying to seem like a much more powerful man than he actually was.

"Oh, I need to disinfect these cuts." He said, holding up his hands. " Best stuff for it."

Ryan didn't notice any of the posturing Alan was doing. Animals, he was great with. People... not so much.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 10, 2007 8:19 pm

"Really?" Alan said dismissively. "I always just washed them with cold water." The use of chemicals to clean his wounds...this Ryan kid was definitely not run of the mill.

"Tell me, Ryan was it?" Alan turned his head slightly. "How do you know so much about science? You don't look that old...17, 18..." His voice trailed off, waiting for an answer.

"It's hard to be sure you'll get all the debris out of a wound with water. Hydrogen peroxide bubbles and lifts the dirt out. Didn't you ever learn that? It's how my mother used to clean any scrapes I got." This was basic first-aid stuff. This guy'd be screwed out in the woods.

"Really? I'm actually twenty-one. I had a couple years of college, and science was my major. Well, Zoo Science actually. "
