Kamiss
Vice Captain

Kamiss watched the setting sun sink beneath the waves, blue sheets of majesty lapping repeatedly on the golden brown sand of the beach. Kamiss sat with his legs tucked to his chest, his arms wrapped around his legs. His broadswords lay, sheathed, besides him. His silver-gray eyes scanned the waves, sometimes looking directly at the sun, but they did not burn. As twilight began to end, black shadowy shapes began to form at the waterline. They started nearly flat, seeming to be part of the ground, then pushing themselves up, becoming three dimensional and very, very real. "No." Kamiss said, stunned and in awe. "No. No. No." He struggled to stand, his strength seemingly sapped. "NOOOOO!!!!!!!!" He threw himself at the shapes, puching one in the 'face'. At least, the round lump connected to the creature's short, thick neck. The head had no face. Kamiss' fist went all the way through, no longer a fist but a black scaled claw. He pulled his arm out from the figure and it went limp. There were more now--at least 50. "You can't be here." Kamiss cried, his broadswords, suddenly unsheathed, flying to his hands. He started to cut them down, but more and more were appearing as the sun set further. For every one he cut down, there were three more. For every three he cut down, there were ten more. Kamiss became increasingly outnumbered in startlingly small amounts of time. "You--We killed you. We hunted every last one of you down! You were slaughtered! You can't be here!" Kamiss' voice was becoming increasingly frantic, like a babe explaining a nightmare. "No..." Kamiss' voice was a whisper now; he was hopelessly outnumbered. He did not fear for himself, but... He threw himself at a whirling knot of enemies, building up his confidence. Kamiss knew he couldn't lose this first encounter, or it would already be over. "DEMONS! DIE!" His broadswords became one greatsword, and he plunged it through a demon's chest. Kamiss looked at its eyes--actually two miniature tentacles curled around it's head. It met his gaze, and died. He slid it slowly off his blade. "Die." Kamiss hissed, raised his arm, and lit up the night sky with fire.

Kamiss dragged himself through the forest, sword scraping along the mud, his arm limp and barely able to grasp the hilt. Thunder clapped above him and thick rain was pouring, beating down his worn body, threating to send him to the ground. His clothes were torn; his bleeding skin could be seen at multiple points on his body. There were scorched patches all over him, clothes and skin. The firestorm had been too powerful for him to control, and he had been hit as much as the demons. Kamiss pushed away a branch, and before him was the village. He struggled forward, and saw immediatly with a mind sweep that there were no villagers outside their house. That was good. The demons always did a check of the surrounding area of their prey first; attacking buildings was second. That would buy him time. He had lost, and he feared the villagers would pay. He struggled in the direction of the nearest house, but it was too far. At lightning's next clap, Kamiss groaned and fell face-down into the mud.

Kamiss pushed himself to his feet. He picked up his black sword, the sword he loved like a brother and hated like a murderer, and trudged on, out back towards the forest. And he ran, his feet pounding rythmically with the drops of rain on the canopy of trees, on his tear-streaked face, on his shoulders, on the ground. He ran and ran, sword held to the side, looking as if he were fleeing some devil, only to expect another one ahead. Kamiss straightened his arm out, one hand holding the cold metal grip of his blade. He did not even turn to look at the body of the demon he had just slain. He jumped, twisting his body to the right and planting his feet on the trunk of a tree, two hundred feet from the ground. He pushed off, in a path like a bullet's flight straight towards the earth. Kamiss held a hand in front of him and released all his might in one burst.

He plowed through the ground like a drill that was not spinning, crushing several demons under his hand alone. A few were jumping into the giant crater he was making deeper every second. They would be the first to die. Kamiss kept burrowing. He would reach the core.

Kamiss sat next to the orange pulsating core of the earth, the heat not affecting him nor the tears streaking down his face. The buried his head in his arms and cried, the salty liquid rushing down his cheecks and into his mouth. Eventually he could taste the metallic tange of blood and knew his eyes were bleeding, but he didn't know why. He stood, turned, and there was the spirit of Trarr, standing before him. "Don't. You can't." It whispered, in the voice and manner of the old Trarr Kamiss knew before the War. But then the true Trarr was gone and replaced by a demon, grinning maniaclly, who dissappeared. Instantly, though Kamiss knew not how, forsaw where he was headed. "SOKRA!" He yelled, with not a one to hear him.

Sokra stood cowering before a field of black shadows. "They're huge!" His friend, Aintur, whispered to him. "They're at least 5'8!" Sokra gulped. "We should run." He said, grabbed Aintur and started running. The demons followed.

Kamiss flew down from the trees above the two kids with a roar, swinging his giant blade at the first few demons. He expelled them from the forest with a mind burst, and dashed after them. "GO!" Sokra yelled at Aintur, and followed his father into the fray.

Kamiss stood in the middle of an ocean of darkness, his blade like a rock parting water. Sokra ducked as a demon flew past him, slamming into a tree and dying slowly. Sokra aided it with his dagger, then ripped the small sword from it's skull. He turned back to Kamiss, and what he saw shocked him. A black demon, near eight feet tall, was off no more than two hundred feet from Kamiss. Kamiss was surrounded by black blood, his own and his enemy's, and he looked as if he was in pain. But in his eyes were more than that: fear, sorrow, anguish, protectiveness of his son, and every other feeling known to mankind. But above all, despite everything, there was one element showing: Tranquility. Kamiss raised his palm up to the heavens and a blue light shot from his hand to the one coming down from the stars, meeting in the middle, pulsating, growing till it was thick as a tree and thicker. Sokra knew instinctivly that Kamiss had just given up his psionics, but he couldn't guess why. All Sokra knew was that it didn't matter; Kamiss could win no matter what. Once the tower was created, the tall demon started forward. "FATHER!" He yelled. Kamiss looked at him, then at the charging demon, and the tranquil look increased, to Sokra's dismay. Kamiss' muscles bulged and scales covered his arms and legs, he dashed forwards as a tail and wings ripped from his body; his face elongated into the snout of a dragon and he grew to the size of the demon. His sword also grew until it was 5 feet or longer, and Kamiss easily cleared demons from every step he took. He and the large demon collided, and Sokra heard Kamiss cry out as his greatsword met the demon's serrated blade. "TRARR!"

Kamiss' eyes turned white, then blue, and found a middle ground as a grey-blue sky. Sokra couldn't understand why, since Kamiss' mind powers were gone, but he soon did. The demon's face seemed to change, grow with fear, as if this was unexpected. "You can't kill yourself!" Trarr screeched, and Sokra yelled "NO!" For now it was all clear. "RANAM!" Kamiss called, and the tower fell from the sky, crushing Kamiss under it. Kamiss stood, the tower of light on his back, and he absorbed it into his body.

Then he exploded.

A blue-white energy field flew from deep within Kamiss, ripping him apart as effectivly as it did Trarr, and every demon. Once it reached Sokra, however it swirled around him, lifting him into the air. It flew into his body and Sokra felt a change, but he couldn't tell what. He felt a presence nearby, and through his tears he saw Kamiss' body pull itself together and walk towards him. He laughed. His father was not dead! His father was not dead! then he stopped. There was something wrong with Kamiss' gait, as if he weren't really walking. The Ranam lowered him to the ground softly, and Sokra knew no more.

Sokra's eyes opened, and he saw his mother Lyra's face above his. She had been crying. "What's wrong?" He said, sitting up. "Father brought me back, right? He's fine, and so am I. Stop crying, mother." Lyra's eyes were shining with tears.
"Kamiss didn't bring you back, sweetie, I did. Your dad is dead."

10 Years Later (2 years after Arinoa's Legacy ends)

Sokra slammed his chair back and stormed out of the house, slamming his fist on the outside of the building. "What'd I say?" Aintur asked, mouth full of porridge. "Nothing, Aintur, nothing. I forget to tell you when I invited you and Kalei here for breakfast." Lyra sighed. "You know Kamiss' father died. It's been bothering Sokra more lately, but I don't know why."
