Dividing the song into sections and doing mass repetition is the only thing that comes to mind.

Indeed. First, work on the intro. Master it.

Then the next part. Say the song's order is..Intro, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Chorus, Bridge, Verse.

Memorize the Chorus. Drill it into your BRAAAIN. Then the Verse. Then the Bridge. Put it all together. Run through it. You'll have it down soon. Keep trying, we have faith in you!

if you have the song you're trying to memorize, then listen to that when you're out and about, maybe even on repeat. xp and yes, repetition. try focusing on the listening for the bass in the song, or the drums since bass and drums usually go together. pirate good luck. 3nodding

Ive always been taught to play the WHOLE song all the way through... that way you learn the song... not just memorize it... your less likely to forget it that way... then again... every one is different... then again, this method was taught to me by a music major... play the whole song through, then go back to the trouble areas, then play the whole song through again

Identify the Riffs and Play them seperately, when you can play them all try and put them in order,
(i usually just look at the Chords and try to figure it out from ear)

A lot of the time in songs there is a lot of repetition of ideas, so its mostly organizing those ideas into the song's road map. Play through the song as a whole a few times, then identify those repetitions. Thats my advice.

Thats great advice. But not all peices can be tackeled this way. Lets say you have a classical peice you want to play, but you cant get it down. The best way to attempt a song thats to hard to handle, is to learn all of the sequences and repetitions in the songs. Then note the intervals in between the notes. If you take the peice one chunk at a time, you can eventually get it to a playing point. Then you take on the whole peice, and learn it in its entirty. This was tought to me by my major instructor.
