I just need to get this off my chest.

Okay I have this friend and he's a christian and I met him playing World of Warcraft. I told him that I was a lesbian and Im thinking that was a big mistake. I mean.. he's still nice to me but if I say something about it or whatever he freezes and makes "...." comments. He says he's fine with it but then he says that gays deserve better which is pretty ******** heterosexist. He also says that he hopes I find someone "guy or girl" and I know I've made it clear that Im a lesbian (which next time he says that Im going to say "Oh I hope you find someone too.. guy or girl" just to get him back on the awkward feeling it gives me for him to say that).

Tonight he said something about hating satanists and I told him I didn't care what people believe as long as they're nice. He said that this guy he knows is a satanists and hates gays (The guy made a comment saying gays should die) and I told him that not all of them are like that because I know there is someone who posts here every once in a while is a satanist. I told him that christians hate gays too so they are the same (extreamists) except Christians worship god and Satanists worship the Devil.

So then he had the balls to ask me what I worship.

I told him that I didn't worship anything and he made the neutral emote. So I asked him if that was bad and he said it was bad to him but not to me. I told him that God gave me a conscious and common sense and that I didn't think that I was going to burn in Hell just for using something that he/she gave me.

So then he said that if I didn't believe in God or obey his laws that apparently I would.

I told him to look at what I said before and I told him that I am a good person. Then I asked him to change the subject and he did.

Then later on I made a comment about the girls from Tatu being hot (he doesnt know who they are) and all he said was "...". So I told him that he shouldnt freak out because I know plenty of straight girls that would say the same thing. He asked me really and I told him yes. I said women compliment each other all the time. Saying someone is hot is like saying they are pretty or gorgeous.

Then he says that the whole gay thing freaks him out.

He told me something about his friend that I didn't quite understand and he never explained so I started picking with him and said "BOOOGYity Booo IM A LESBIAN!!! xD" and he screams and signs off. 5 min later he signs in and laughs.

This guy was really nice and he still is but his homophobia and heterosexist attitude is really starting to get to me.

Well, there isn't really anything that you can do. I mean, that's just the way he is. He's a little squeamish, but he'll probably grow out of it (one would hope). Since you haven't met him personally (or have you? It wasn't quite clear to me) there isn't much you can do beyond what you've already been doing. confused

Also, the whole "BOO!! I"M A LESBIAN!!11!1 XD" thing most likely didn't help. I don't know, but having someone say "I <3 v****a" (loose translation) when it isn't something I'M completely comfortable with, probably wouldn't thrill me. Meh, some people have strange mind sets that they have to change on their own. THEY have to overcome their own "moral rectitudes".

Eh.

Anyways, good luck, and I hope he stays friendly!! sweatdrop

Yeah that probably was a bit uncalled for from me but I was kidding and he got back on 5min later saying "lol" so I dunno. He was better the next day too.. I can see he's trying. Like I said he's a nice guy but I just needed to vent.

Thanks for the reply!

I hope that he realizes that there are different forms of satanism and that satanists don't necessarily believe in the Christian Satan, if any satan at all. He really shouldn't generalize like that in any case. I'm glad that you said what you did to him about that.

You might ask him why 'the whole gay thing' freaks him out. Then explain to him about it. It might help him understand you and other gays.

First.. Never underestimate the power of socialization AK - he may simply be struggling with being confronted by somebody *AKA you* that he's been told is horrible/rotten his whole life. Hell his parents may even have gay bashed him - I know lots of parents do it to there kids, especially here. Though often it's just a joke (one of my best friends in high school got his porn stash discovered by his dad, and all he said was "and here all this time I thought you were gay") but it can take on a very serious and demeaning character.

Hell, most males I know of, even "christian" ones don't have problems with lesbians. I know that's a bit of a stereotype, and is probably not too constructive, but his response doesn't make sense to me. Another issue, is that if he lives with his parents still, it could be that they view the screan, and if they are undauntingly extreme, they may just restrict his WoW playing if he's associating with you.

Raeden - I dont think he does and if he ever does then I dont think that would make a difference. "If you dont believe in god, you go to hell"

Red - I never thought of it that way. I know that his dad is very abusive (I learned this just a few days ago) and I think his mom is christian. Both could be a factor. And I know how that playful gay bashing goes. Though it wasn't directed at me, my step-dad used to make fun of a friend of mine who had a muscle disorder of some kind. Which of his responses doenst make sense to you?
