"You know, I have to tell you that I resent you coming along with me today, Zaph; just in case you've forgotten that little fact." A smile on his face, Kildegard was standing beside the river, head lowered from the drink he'd just taken. The words, spoken in a teasing tone, were directed at the dark blue stallion that stood a short distance away, leaning against a tree. "I could have made it on my own, you know."
"Yes, you probably could have, but we don't have two weeks to wait around for you this time, Kildegard. You might have forgotten how long it took you last time, but I haven't. You're lucky you've got me around, otherwise who knows where you'd end up!"
Zaphiro couldnt' resist teasing the other stallion a bit, particularly when the white stallion's face flushed. Kildegard was a good sort, of course, but his absentminded-whateverness made expecting him to show up anywhere on time...impractical. "We've been off only half a day and I've already had to snap you back five times, after all!"
"Point taken." Besides, it wasn't like Zaph was unpleasant company; and traveling was always easier with friends. Right now the two had stopped for a brief rest, but then it would be time to start off again. And Zaph was just waiting for him to drift off again; well, not now, he wouldn't!

Spice was trotting up the river. the smell of it was pleasant as it started to thaw a little. It would freeze again once night time came but for now it as pleasant. The birds chirped a little and the sun poked through the trees slightly. Spice breathed in deeply and let it out again as she trotted. But soon she slowed a bit. A familiar scent filled her lungs, the scent of the forgetful stallion who was as white as snow and had the cross upon his rump.
She trotted on until she spotted him and gave a delighted whinny to see a familiar face. But that soon stopped short when she spotted a pretty blue Soquili. It was another stallion judging from the scent but he had wings. She slowed down and approached cautiously as she did not know if Kildegard would remember her or not. and also if this other stallion was friendly or not.

At the sound of the whinny, both stallions' ears had swiveled in the direction of the noise and both had turned to look. On Zaphiro's face was an expression of polite interest; after all, he didn't know who it was that was greeting them. But Kildegard broke into a wide smile upon seeing the splotchy mare, recognizing the colorful coat instantly. "Hey there!"
Glancing from the mare to Kildegard, Zaphiro raised a brow curiously. "Friend of yours, Kildegard?"
"Yeah, something like that. We met the last time I was out wandering, and she helped me out. What was her name again?" Tilting his head to one side, Kildegard frowned as he tried to remember. What was it, now? It had started with an S, he was pretty sure...
Glancing from the mare to his friend, Zaphiro sighed as he noticed the light fading from Kildegard's eyes. No spacing out now, thanks! Walking over to the other stallion, Zaphiro rapped him smartly on the head, then laughed at Kildegard's startled look. "You were saying?"
"Spice. Her name is Spice. Hey Spice!" Grinning ruefully at Zaphiro, Kildegard turned to greet the mare. How long had it been? Long enough! "How're you doing?"

Spice got closer and could tell from the blue ones expression he meant no harm. She lightly bowed her head respectfully and wore a gently smile upon her soft face.
" Hello Kildegard, its nice to see you again. I have been doing far, though I’m sick of seeing the couples every where, and you? I see you have a friend with you today"
She looked over and with her green eyes examined the blue winged one. He was the second wing she had met so far and his design was interesting. Colored of royal blues and gold’s but she was more interested in his eyes. They were yellow which was odd but intriguing. But her attention soon shot back to Kildegard.
" Keeping that cute rump of yours safe i hope"

Zaphiro was amused. Not only had Kildegard spaced out again (6!), but he'd resulted in the arrival of another new acquaintance, one who was had as interesting an idea of a greeting as anyone the sapphire stallion had ever met. Sick of seeing couples, eh? Sounded like someone was a wee bit bitter, if the blue stallion knew anything. But for now, he kept his amusement and his person a respectful few steps away so that the two that knew each other could greet as they saw fit.
Of course, the amusement remained. Particularly when the mare gave him a look that was very clearly sizing him up, running over his whole body as those uniquely colored eyes were. Not that the sensation was novel, of course; he was used to being examined, given the blodness of his appearance. But it was an amusing reaction from a newcomer.
Kildegard was grinning as well, but his was a grin of recognition and pleasure at seeing his friend again. "Likewise, Spice, though without the qualms and annoyances you seem to have. Very astute observation on the companion bit, though; this is Zaphiro, who has been lucky enough to get the task of keeping me in myself."
Smiling, he gestured to his friend with one hoof, then back at Spice. "Zaph, this is Spice; the mare I mentioned that helped me the other day.
Zaphiro had bowed his head pleasantly at the mare, though he couldn't resist giving Kildegard an amused look at the last comment. Mentioned, eh? Kilde had barely said two words the other day when he'd finally made it back to the teepee, zoned out as he was. But there was no reason to shatter the illusion the white stallion wanted, for whatever reason. So Zaph merely smiled pleasantly at Spice as he bowed, wondering all the while how that last meeting had gone. "A pleasure, Spice; it's nice to know that Kildegard wasn't left entirely to his own devices before I got this dubious honor."
"Very nice, Zaph; making it sound like I'm completely incapable of looking out for myself!" Kildegard managed to sound suitably annoyed, but he knew very well that what the other stallion had said was true. Oh well. Looking back at Spice, he just caught the last comment and grinned. "Remembering my rump with fondness, are you? Well, I'm honored to know that a lady of your caliber is so interested in such an unassuming posterior!"

Spice giggled a bit at the two, they seemed to act more like brothers in a sense and it was a nice change to see as most Soquili herds got along, but not like they where a family unit. Looking from Kildegard back to Zaph she smiled.
" Well It is a pleasure to meet you Zaph, your very interesting to look at"
She bowed her head again as she spoke, not showing a hint of sarcasm or rudeness. Though she was in a bad mood she did her best to hide it. She looked over at Kildegard again smiling as he finished his sentence.
" But of Course I do, after all who would ever forget such a thing as that?"
She laughed a bit as she mused about it. Her eyes where brighter right now as she ran into this familiar face. Usually when she met a Soquili outside of family she didn’t see them again it would seem. But this made her all to happy to finally see a familiar face again.
" If I may ask, what are you two doing around here any way? Heading some where more interesting I hope"

Innocent though the comment was, Spice's comment on Zaphiro's looks had barely passed her lips before a slight shadow crossed his face. The mare had no way of knowing, of course, but the sapphire stallion had a passionate distrust of compliments, particularly in regard to his physicality. Consequently, it was far from surprising to Kildegard at least when Zaphiro gave Spice a slight bow and a rather short "Likewise, I'm sure," before nodding at both of them and then walking off towards the stream.
Glancing after his friend for a moment, Kildegard blinked, then shrugged. Oh well, what could you do? Besides, he knew Zaphiro well enough to know that such behavior was normal. So with that in mind, he turned back to Spice with a grin.
"Well, we're on a jaunt. A couple of our herdmates are off gathering odds and ends for our two-legger to do her handcrafts with, and Zaph and I are off to meet them to help lug everything back to the teepee. Share and share alike, that sort of of thing. But what brings you out this way, Spice? And I've been paying attention, so I KNOW we aren't by the lake."

Spice looked at Zaph as he walked away. Did I do something wrong? she thought with a frown on her face before turning back to Kildegard smiling and nodding her head. She thought for a moment of why she was here and then could only come to one conclusion.
" I was actually just wondering around.. thinking mostly. I really didn’t realize how far from the lake i have gotten myself, but no matter, i really haven’t been home for a good week or so... You collect things for your two legger?"
Spice was curious about this objective, why would a Soquili go out and collect things for them? Odd as is was she shook her head and just thought that perhaps some Soquili like to do this but she couldn’t imagine herself going and looking for strange objects of such choice.

"The brainchild of one of my herdmates. Our two-legger is really good to us, gives us food and a place to rest when we need it, so it seemed logical to help her out." Kildegard was amused at the somewhat confused tone in Spice's voice; but then again, he knew that there were other Soquilis that never so much as thanked heir two-leggers for things, let alone helped them out. So he could understand that confusion.
"You might say it's a community service. Though technically, Zaphiro and myself are only going to help carry everything back. No collecting here!" Which made sense, given that he had no idea what was even being looked for. But brute force he could manage.
But that was enough about that. Tilting his head curiously at her, Kildegard raised one dark brow. "So do you often go wandering around like this?" Curious and curiouser.

" Ah, well I never see the one named Isi around my teepee much, she's always off hunting with that fox or something. Sometimes king lets her use him for it. She rides around on him.. i guess its faster."
She smile thinking now. It was pretty ignorant of her not to so much as spend one day with the two legger. But ohh well she had plenty of time to do that. She nodded her head understanding what he said and then thought on to his question.
" Yes I like to wonder a lot.. Not only do i learn the landscape better but it's relaxing.. And its a non violent way to blow off some of the steam."
She nodded her head. Spice was a timid creature really. Though she would go and talk to new ones, she was shy and for the most part a bit quiet when she talked. So she really wasn’t the violent type in the first place and would rather think about her problems rather then take it out on some one else.

Ah, so she was a wanderer. Well, that would explain a few things, like why he'd twice encountered her in different areas. And he could understand the desire to be on the move, though he supposed that in her case she was more in control of where she went.
That thought brought a chuckle to Kildegard's lips; he seriously doubted that he'd even RECOGNIZE some of the places he'd passed through in his travels, unnoticing as he'd been.
"I think I understand what you mean, Spice; after all, it's a big world out there, and there's only a limited time to see as much of it as possible. Besides, there are all sorts of nifty and hidden nooks, I've been told. Never found any myself, or if I have I forgot, but you know what I mean."

" yah your right, and if you paid attention I bet you could find those nooks."
She nipped playfully at his mane as she did understand it wasn’t his fault that he didn’t pay attention. It was just the way his mind worked. Though it did interest her, his mind did. Spice wondered what it would be like to have his mind, though she was thankful she didn’t for obvious reasons.
" Well I'm sure you'll get an old nag to make you pay attention twenty-four seven one day"

Kildegard's reaction to Spice's comment was remarkabbly immature: he simply stuck his tongue out at her. As if he could do anything about it when his mind decided to take off on him!
But he wasn't the sort to get disheartened by the unavoidable; even if she HADN'T let him know that she was teasing, had actually been serious, he probably would have reacted the same way. He was what he was, and while the possibility of change existed, he wouldn't get his hopes up.
So it was with a comfortable sense of familiarity that he deadpanned in response to Spice's 'nag' comment. "Hey now, it's really not nice to call Zaphiro an old nag. Nag, sometimes; old, no."
There was a mischievious sparkle in his black eyes in spite of the dullness of his tone, even though he saw that the comment was at least half wasted. Zaphiro was firmly out of ear-shot, so there'd be no dirty looks, dire threats, or long-suffering sighs coming from him! A pity, but there was the whole rest of the journey to correct that!

Spice giggled at Kildegard words. He amused her with his antics. She wondered how he was able to learn to be humorous, perhaps he wasn’t an empty shell all his life and at one point he was able to keep in his mental state all the time. what ever the case she was glad he was the way he was
" Ohh he doesn’t seem like a nag at all. He's just trying to keep you safe. He doesn’t seem very friendly though... But ohh well, it could just be me. So Kildegard anything else to report?"

"Nah, he's not so much concerned about my safety as my timeliness. We ARE supposed to be meeting Liz at a specific time, after all, and when I tend to black out, I lose all sense of time." Grinning, Kildegard polished one hoof on the grass, a bit amused at Spice's somewhat frank assesment of Zaphiro. Not that he could really blame her, not when Zaph was being...well, Zaph!
"And actually, you've just gotten a bad impression of Zaph 'cause he's nervous. He's had a bit of bad luck with mares, and it's easier to upset him as a result. There's nothing personal in it, though."
He wasn't going to explain any more than that, though. Kildegard had to admit that he was both buffaloed and amused by Zaphiro's reaction to compliments, but then he himself wasn't flashy enough to be hit on to the extent that Zaphiro often was. Though even if he was, Kilde wasn't a gentleman like Zaphiro, so he frankly had no idea how he'd react.
But all that aside...Zaphiro had to right to keep his own counsel and reasons; Kildegard would respect that.
So he neatly changed the subject with his response to Spice's last query. "Nope; nothing eventful here. What about you, Spice? Is life full of exciting and reportable happenings?"
