It was a beautiful day in the Pridelands, but one young lion seemed unable to find anything to do! Wahabu was standing a short distance from his family's den trying to decide what he was going to spend his day doing. Mama was no where to be found, nor was baba. Perhaps he could go and visit his bibi, he hadn't gone to see her in awhile! He'd never tell her that he came only because nothing else was going on, though. No, that was what made him realize he should be visiting more.

He grinned inwardly and jogged off in the direction of his grandmother's den. Wahabu was in a rather good mood, he'd adjusted to feeling safe and was starting to really enjoy himself. He had no expectation of anything going wrong today.

(( For Tisi 8D Woo for finally just-happy Wahabu. ))

Kubwa stalked his happy little yellow prey, he had smelled Wahabu and Mtima's scent some while off and decided it may be time to talk to his good friend. He was feeling cynical, and he was not at all sure why, he would never hurt his friend, even if he was hurt himself. Wahabu even if the white lion had only met him once meant a great deal to Kubwa.

He slunk low in the wavering grass and silently he cheered himself on for being able to "hunt" the slightly younger lion so well. He felt slightly awkward and a little too large outside of his tree, it was the one place beside his mother's side that felt like home.

Just after visiting with Mtima, Kubwa set out to find his mother but the smell of Waha was so strong that he had to confront his friend head on, thinking about it would only lead him to brood.

"I'll get you," he whispered a little too loudly, he had always had a problem with volume control.

Wahabu truly was clueless about what was going on around him for the most part, he allowed himself enough distraction to pay no mind to the smaller details. Whatever sound he might have heard of his friend hunting him went completely unnoticed- until the loud whisper reached him.

"Huh?" he wondered, halting in his jog to take a look around. Where'd the sound come from? He wasn't so far put out of his good mood, and was more curious than fearful. He really was having a good day, it seemed.

Kubwa sighed heavily and perked his head up out of the grass, he was sure at first that his noise would go unnoticed, oh well. RATS! He was going to have to tell Kip he sucked at hunting!

"Hi Wahabu, do you remember me?" it had been sometime since they spoke, and lions /do/ grow fast! His complete confidence in being able to tell his friend off fell, how could he yell? He would still ask, just wait for the right time to bring it up.

Wahabu was startled when, lo and behold, a familiar face popped out of the grass. Not only was the face familiar, it was a bit older- and fluffier. His friend must be getting older! He didn't have fluff before, and now he did- just like baba went from somewhat fluffy to really fluffy.

"Kubwa!" he exclaimed, grinning and hopping closer, "Of course I remember you! What are you doing sneaking around the grass?"

Kubwa's heart leaped, fo course his /closest/ friend would remember who he was, even if he had gotten a little bigger. He hid the disappointment that his friend had not commented on him getting a bit bigger.

"I was hunting you, now I'll eat you!" he beared his fangs playfully and looked his old friend up and down, "It has been a little while, hasn't it?"

Wahabu laughed at Kubwa's announcement that he was going to eat him. Had it been a girl, he would have taken them seriously even in a joking tone, but he knew Kubwa. His friend wouldn't hurt him, that was just silly! He watched the newfound fluff atop Kubwa's head bob as he was looked up and down.

"It has been! You got fluffy," he nodded at his friend's head, sticking out his tongue playfully, "A little bit, anyway."

Kubwa stepped forward slightly and ruffled the hair ontop of Wahabu's head, "Yours will grow in, don't worry. You've gotten bigger too!" his eyes drifted to his yellow companion's back and he wonder where the scars came from, "what happened little man?" He snorted, he was never able to call anyone little. True concern showed in his soft brown eyes, what would he do if he knew he'd lost one of his only friends. They may not have seen each other often but Kubwa thought of Wahabu almost everyday, he did not make friends easily.

He smiled and thought for a momnet on how to approach the next topic he wanted to discuss. He wanted to ask Wahbu about Mtima, seeing Wahabu now there was no mistaking that Mtima was either his mother or a very, very close realitive. But what if he was wrong? The doubt in his mind that his friend would lie to him and the fact he could have assumed and was wrong was far too strong.

"Seen anything interesting lately, climbed any trees?"

Wahabu tried to resist the ruffling of the fur on top of his head, backing up a bit to escape the playful gesture and the questions about the scars on his neck and back. "Bigger but not fluffier," he announced with an agreeing nod, "If you got fluffy, I'll have to get fluffy too." He nodded firmly, as if he were going to ignore the question.

"My sister tried to kill me," he said in a low voice a frown, and as he continued his voice got a little more natural sounding, "She said we were going to play a game, I shouldn't have believed her. Baba saved me, and then she ran away. She gone, so I don't have to worry about it anymore.." Wahabu almost didn't sound convinced when he said he didn't have to worry anymore now that she was gone, he'd always be a bit worried about her coming back.

He took to the next topic more cheerfully, "I was trying to climb a tree, but I ran into this bright orange girl. I don't think I'm good at climbing trees, it hurts my paws. Have you climbed any trees or seen anything interesting?" It completely slipped his mind at the moment that he'd been talking to K'A about the things Kubwa asked before.

He smiled and nodded up until the point Wahabu mentioned his sister trying to kill him, "SHE WHAT!?" he blurted out the moment Waha had said it adn quited down embarrassed, he was always scolded for interrupting. Wahabu's voice seemed quite different and Kubwa's facial expression was sturn and understanding, "If anything happens again or you need someone I will always be here, what are friends for?"

"..oh..umm interesting? I'm getting a bit big for my tree and was thinking of searching for something much higher to climb, a goddess suggested I climb the mountains, can you believe it?!" He was excited and loved that his friend wanted to change the subject fo his sister as much as he did.

He had gotten the courage to ask his question;

"Yes, I met this large yellow goddess named Mtima, and she was lovely, why didn't you tell me your mum was a goddess? It is unmistakably your mother, the yellow and the markings!" anger crept into his voice, "We talked and you didn't tell me!" A long sigh escaped the older male.

Wahabu nodded with a sad matter-of-fact air to him when Kubwa exclaimed in surprise. When his friend offered his help he nodded again, letting a smile creep onto his face. He had two friends more than willing to help him if he needed them, and both had something about them that would make them quite easy to call upon. Kubwa lived nearby, and though K'Anatak did not he was a god and could come if called. He felt lucky.

He listened intently as Kubwa explained his tree dilemma and his ears immediately perked up at the mention of a goddess suggesting he climb a mountain.

"Really!" he exclaimed with a grin, happy his friend got to meet a god. It reminded him that he'd asked K'Anatak the questions- and when he opened his mouth to say so, Kubwa continued on and slowly sounded angry. He blinked, almost getting excited by the idea of a yellow goddess- he was yellow! But his expression suddenly changed when he said her name was Mtima- and before he could think 'that's mama's name,' Kubwa was accusing him of certainly very crazy things!

"Mama isn't-" Wahabu tried to cut in, but Kubwa continued and explained how it couldn't possibly be a coinsidence. The same yellow as him and same markings as him. Wahabu knew on his forehead he had the same symbol mama had on her back, and they both had rings around their ankles. He bit his lip and stared at Kubwa, completely caught off guard. His mother couldn't be a goddess! Gods were big and fluffy and had wings. Mama definetely didn't have wings!

"Mama doesn't have wings! She can't be," he argued, though his voice wavered, "She- she'd tell me."

"She said she had two children, and at the mention of them seemed very sad, probably becuase of your sister, I am certain it was her Wahabu...you didn't know?" His eyes widdened, oh dear! He had given away Mtima's secret, and suddenly pieces of the puzzle he had not seen before surfaced, she hid her wings, she did not allow those around her to see them, because of the pride!

"I don't think I was supposed to tell...I am..so..sorry..I," he fell silent allowing Wahabu time to speak he had drudged on about everything there was to say and had not allowed his friend to speak. His facial expression softened and he was very worried he had done a horrible, terrible thing.

Wahabu trusted Kubwa, a great deal in fact, but part of him simply refused to accept what he was being told. His mother couldn't be a goddess- it didn't make any sense! She didn't have wings, she never left like K'Anatak did, he was not a god, baba was not a god, Kilango was not a goddess..

Not only those things, but mama would tell him if she were a goddess! She told him everything.

Didn't she?

When Kubwa said he didn't think he was supposed to tell, Wahabu stared down at his friend's paws unblinkingly. Clearly his mama was keeping secrets, Kubwa had to be right. He just didn't know what to say, it was quite the big secret to keep from your family!

Kubwa's mind swimmed with the posibility that he had made a great mistake and had told a secret, or maybe he had dreamed Mtima up? Afterall the only person he told about his god fetish was Waha...and they discussed their mothers being goddesses in their own eyes...Maybe he was daydreaming in the tree...but it seemed so real! She had to have been Waha's mother, or at least a grandmother/aunt!

"Perhaps it is best if you ask your mother yourself? She could hide her wings, she said so...?"

Kubwa steppped slightly closer to comfort Wahabu, all the rage had dripped out of his face and was completely replaced but sadness and the idea he had someone screwed everything up big time for this little family.

Wahabu's mind swirled around in a way very similar to his friend's, only his mind was more on what kind of secrets she was keeping and what it would mean if she was a goddess. He looked up from Kubwa's feet to his eyes when he suggested talking to his mother about it, and hiding her wings.

She could hide her wings. That made it more believable, but.. he was still reluctant to admit it. He slowly nodded to show he agreed, he'd have to ask his mother. He got back to his feet and backed up a bit as if planning to go do so right now, but he turned back in the direction he'd been going before Kubwa showed up and headed off that way.

"I have to go," he murmured, though not very audibly, as he jogged off.
