Jumble you don't like to use white?? Actually, the fact that my last two major illustrations have been of black women is a coincidence.

Chowder88 something about the right hip seems strange.. is she supposed to be black? -It's probably the indent. I didn't convey it properly in the CG. -Yes. The person who commissioned this had a black avatar.

I'd suggest that you mix up the background somehow? It seems to me that the figure is allright but the overall presentation is lacking something.

Her knees shouldn't be turning in like that.
Her torso goes in too much at the waist. Girls are curvy but not THAT curvy. Not usually anyway. And her breasts look unnaturally big. The shading on her right arm makes it look flat. Try moving the highlight on the forearm more toward the center of the arm instead of having at the edge.

I hahahate the background. Seriously. I am not sure how to make better ones. Well she is black and red and brown and ribbony and belty so I'd do a background that added to those things - either some desaturated bluegreen to bring contrast to the table, or some swooshy red stuffs with black stars?

Her anatomy was exaggerated on purpose, though - I know know know know everybody hates that excuse, but in the case of a pin up, I think it's legitimate.

I've heard that, too, and it makes sense... Someone told me it was because true white (and black) isn't found in nature, but also think about the fact that you would never highlight with white, nor would you shade with black. It would be like using the 'lighten' and 'darken' tools in photoshop (well, paint shop pro has them. I have no idea about photoshop) to color with. Basically it's wrong and it looks horrible. I can see what Jumble means, though. Part of it makes me think it's the way you colored her boots and sword, since it's all solid greys. And compared to the skin and the scarf, they don't really look finished. Part of it makes me think it's just the background color you picked, because I really hate it. I think that maybe an olive green or some sort of green-yellow color would have worked better.

I'm experimenting to figure this out, but a little help would be appreciated.
