(*My computer is freakin' out and I don't know if this had already gone through, so if this ends up post'd twice, I apologize greatly*)

I thought I'd share this fun little evening with the RENT Guild.
So Sunday night, New Year's Eve, my two best friends (who got into RENT with me) and I decided that it was time to get our other friend into Rent, as well. So after we did fun New Year's stuff, eventually returning to my house around four or so in the morning, we all decide to put it on and MAKE HER WATCH IT. We're all mostly dead-tired, but the three of us there who are already into it love it so much, we want to watch it as far as possible, and my friend wanted to see what we were so hype'd up about. In the end, me and one of my pre-Rent friends watched it the whole way through as well as the new Rent-introduced friend, and our other friend fell asleep after I'll Cover You, I think. So it was pretty successful.
It was fun getting her into Rent. She wasn't so excited when it first started, but once it got to Adam Pascal as Roger, she started paying more attention. When it came to Angel being introduced, she was like, "Whose the hot guy?" I instructed her not to look at him, for Wilson Jermaine Heredia's hotness will forever be ALL MINE. (Yes I'm obsessed with him in particular) But then it got to the drag scene, and she was like, "Whoa! That could ACTUALLY be a woman." It was fun. Oh! And at the beginning, suring Seasons of Love, she was like, "Wait a minute... Isn't that the guy who was on Law and Order or something?" I laughed. "Yes, he is," I told her. I LOVED her reaction when it came to his solo in SoL! "o.o I... I didn't know he could do that!!!"
But in the end, I realized that it kind of bothered me spreading the Rent love. Maybe it was just this friend in particular, because maybe it was just the fact that the three of us who had already seen it were being kind of obnoxious, but it seemed like I didn't think she was getting the message. Probably the over-all message, but I and the other three have seen it so many times, every teeny tiny hint of "forget regret" and "no day but today" and love just sinks in. I'm still finding new things to dwell on every time I listen to RENT.
But probably what bothered me the most, was when it got to the funeral scene. I was laying next to her, and the lights were off, and I had just started crying. You see, EVERY time it comes to I'll Cover You Reprise, I cry. I'm not going to hide it, I frikkin' BAWL. There hasn't been a time I could watch it without crying. So I'm just starting to cry, and well, I don't like to cry in front of a lot of people. When I cry, I sound weird, and my voice gets annoyingly distorted, and usually, I don't talk during this scene; my other two friends who have watched it with me either cry as well or don't push it. We have a hug moment and move on during the funeral scene. She had never seen me cry, and a lot of people probably think I'm too heartless and too much of a b***h to cry. Like I said, I usually don't talk, but as we're staring at the TV and lovely Jesse L. Martin, I sniff. She looks at me, and is like, "...Dude?" The lights are off, but she could tell. I snapped, "What?" And she was like, "Are you CRYING?! Aww, is the baby crying?" I just keep crying, and she's asking, "Dude, what is wrong with you?! Are you okay, what's wrong?!" And I'm just freaking out, saying, "Nothing, it's NORMAL, this happens every time!" And she ends up laughing. So my other friend who stayed awake starts crying as well, and we have a hug moment, and then life goes on. Yay.
That just really bothered me, how she reacted when ANGEL died.

So... That was my experience with introducing RENT to other friends. Basically...
Have you ever shoved RENT down non-Rentheads' throats? What was their reactions to it? Overall, was it good or bad, their first viewing of RENT?

All my friends who I got into RENT, I had them come over, and I made them watch the La Vie Boheme part of the movie. So far, 2 out of 2 like RENT. Also I took my younger brother to the movies to watch it. He likes the music alot, but he's not really interested in it. And I gave part of the Broadway soundtrack to two of my cousins, and they're getting hooked.

Frankly, my friends are probably sick of RENT. I haven't managed to convert them...which is sad, but I've definitely made them watch it enough. See, we have a group of about five friends. My other friend and I are total RENTheads so we had one of the guys and my cousin watch it. My cousin liked it well enough but she wasn't obsessed but the guy was really sweet because when we got to Angel's funeral we were all cuddled up and hugging each other and he didn't think we were lame or anything and he was sad too. He's such a good sport...

Anyway, after that was done, he said 'it was pretty good' so I figured I'd settle with that. They're used to us now and kind of get sick of it because our other guy friend we made watch it too and he wasn't terribly impressed...he actually fell asleep which was a travesty but at least the songs got stuck in his head. xd Anyway, we haven't converted them but they know a lot about it thanks to us. And they're even making RENT references on their own now...which I'm proud of. But my friend and I are the only ones who are really RENTheads.

Yes yes YES! I LOVED the tour cast; I saw them in November in Dallas, and I loved it so much, I HAD to see it again. =D I wasn't sure what to expect, being used to the OBC soundtrack and all, but my friend and I actually ended up turning to each other with our mouths gaping open we were so shocked at how good it was. whee I actually took some video of it that I put on YouTube, and will be getting more hopefully next time. =3

My sister tried getting my mom into it. She stopped the movie like, halfway through. She was grossed out by Angel and Collins' kiss!!!

mad That's TOTALLY how my mom would be!!! I talk to her about RENT sometimes, and she knows that I'm obsessed with Willy J., who plays Angel. She watched that episode of Medium that Wilson was on with me, and whenever I talk to her about Wilson and his "on-stage boyfriend," she gets kind of weird and "riiiight, I don't care to hear this" like.

I some how got one of my friends into this year. I don't (completely) shoved it in people's faces, but being an addict, I talk about it a lot, and relate my life to it in any way possible. So I guess she rented it, and completely fell in love. She's watched it 10 times at least since she got it for Christmas, haha. I'm so proud!

So if you care to find me,
look to the Western sky...

I've shown it to a lot of people, and they all liked it. ^.^ None of them have become completely OBSESSED, but I'm working on it. ^.^

One of my friends that I showed it to is really quiet, so she didn't say much, but she liked it, and she was sad when Angel died. Then another one is really hyper, and we started calling each other 'Pookie'. xd That was fun. Then I also showed it to one of my guy friends, and I think he liked it too. ^.^ So all in all, I haven't done too badly. biggrin

So. My mom was on my computer, and I decided to watch RENT, 'cause I had started it on like Monday and never finished it. I put it on my TV, and she was half paying attention 'cause she was on the computer like I said. She turned around during the scene where Joanne proposes to Maureen, and when they kissed, she was kind of uncomfortable, but more or less fine (my mom is a ******** homophobe to an insane degree). Then after it's over, I decide to just watch some fun scenes and songs. I go to I'll Cover You. She's just watching silently, quietly laughing at my boys, and then it gets to the part where they kiss, and she just keeps repetitively screaming, "GROSS! GROOOOSS! WHY DID YOU MAKE ME WATCH THAT!? SICK! GROOOSS!" I was like " gonk You could've turned around!" "YOU DIDN'T WARN ME!!!" ._. Erm ********?

I was always interested in RENT, even though I hadn't listened to the music or watched the show. So I was extremely excited when the movie came out.

My boyfriend at the time thought it was a lame story, but he took me to see it nonetheless, and he came out having enjoyed it lol.

Then I got the music and listened to it nonstop. Eventually my friends heard the music and liked it, and when the movie came out to buy I bought the DVD and had them come over to watch it.

Now I have a LOT of RENT-obsessed fans, woot woot!

I try to show my friends RENT, but as soon as it hits "You'll See" they're out of it. I wish the beginning of the movie was like that of the Broadway. Then it would keep their interest. xp

xd That's hilarious. I don't know why they would leave... I mean, the first song is so... INTENSE in the movie, it made me want to sit up straight and stare bug-eyed at the TV, rocking back and forth while practically chewing on my blanket. Which is pretty much how it went down the first time my friends and I watched it. xd IT'S JUST SO INTENSE. IT GETS YOU PUMPED. AND MAKES YOU WANT MORE.
