I have recently started music lessons and my teacher taught me about the notes and time. The thing however is that I cannot remember the notes so well on the spaces and the lines. Here is a nifty method my teacher taught me so I can always "carry" it with me. Anyway, I memorize it on my hand but just when it gets to reading music I get all nervous, confused and forget. PS: My lessons are not in English and my music teacher and I dont use English. So in our countries we use the syllabic method (Do, re, mi, fa......) [I think I used the right word sweatdrop ] So yeah we dont use the "EGBDF" (Every Good Boy Does Fine) method as we feel it is much easier to teach the syllabic way and because that phrase (Every Good Boy Does Fine..) When translated it does not correspond how it would in English. Anyway, I was told that when one masters reading music it really does not matter "how" you read it as it is universal through the world...but I will learn the EGBDF way for my convinience though. Thank you

Its just that when I get the instrument at hand and look at the notes, I blank out and have to "count" the notes on the lines and figure out what they are and plus the position of the instrument. (No, its not a string one) I know I should not rush on learning but it just happens >_<"

I think everyone does the same thing....(I do that whenever I have new notes that I've only known for maybe 3 class meet ups razz ) It gets even better *is sarcastic* when you go and play at concerts that have all those notes that your new too ;P

I use solfege somtimes too biggrin I'm kinda bad at it though. XD
There are two main types of solfege: moveable Do, in which each syllable corresponds with a scale degree (ie, a 3rd is Mi; a 5th is Sol; etc.), and fixed Do, in which the syllables correspond to fixed pitches. You seem to be using fixed Do.
I learned moveable Do in concert choir, and letter names for each note in orchestra class. Since I've been in orchestra longer, I better with letter names and whatnot. I know a lot of music conservatories use fixed Do, though... meaning I should work on that. @_@;
But as far as getting nervous and forgetting, it'll get easier with practice. :3
Good luck~ heart

write do, re, mi etc underneath the notes, in time, you will improve, and hopefully, won't panic or need to count etc.
