Anyone know if this can be harmful to a bass? since im thinking of getting a natural finish olp musicman stingray. The stock pickguard is a shell color and i'd prefer it to be black. Anyone know of this harming a bass?
P.S. Im upgrading the pickup system to a musicman pickup.

I assume that as long as you don't get paint on the pick-ups, or anything it should be fine. I've never really painted a pick-guard before.
If your garud comes off also make sure to not get paint in the screw holes.
I hope I may have helped... a little.

You should be totally fine if its just the pickguard. You may change your sound a slight bit if you paint the body depending on your bass, whether or not it has a finish or not (mine dosnt)
As for the pick guard, its just a plastic addon, and the real sound comes from your wood, pickups, strings, and however your neck is designed (one peice, bolted, ect...)

Just take the pickguard off before you paint.
No, no matter how much newspaper and tape you put on, you'll still end up with overspray.

paint doesn't do much to any kind of string instrument. unless its on the pick ups then there might be a problem i'm not sure. but the colour finish they put on the guitar is paint after all and a little more doesn't effect any thing.

Actually thats not true. the finish you have on your bass will change your tone. Its a small change, but it changes none the less.
