He wrinkled his nose and took a sniff at the powdery stuff that has fallen and lain itself across everything. It was wet...cold....soft.....and tasted like water. Will wonders never cease...it was the first time he has felt water like this. The lands here are sure a marvel for a wandering stallion. Notte Rache shook himself and dislodged more fallen snow from his back and wings. He was near the desert but instead of the widespread yellowy sand, there was now a thin blanket of white snow. Still the strong bright flowers peeked out in tufts and he smiled at them.

Thera trod along with Aldora huddled on her back, leaving a shallow trail of prints in the thin blanket of snow which seemed to cover everything in sight. She snorted, irritable because of the cold and the snow and winter and the cold and the snow and the snow and the weather in general, and Aldora chuckled, "It's just snow. Water. Don't fuss so much, it's not like you to sulk."
The mare stopped to pointedly shake the snow off her hooves, and Aldora chuckled again. While scanning the snow for something interesting the soquili sighted the lone black figure in the snow, and she watched at him for awhile before making her way towards him. Her companion piped up, apparently unable to resist, "Another stallion? My, you're really getting around these days aren't you?"
Thera snorted, then greeted the stranger while still some distance away, walking slowly towards him. "Hello there!"

He turned, slightly surprised to see another through this snow. She was a warm looking mare, a deep rich brown coat speckled with pinks and yellows, although she also looked slightly uncomfortable, perhaps due to the hawk clinging to her back? Notte Rache has flown with their winged brothers before, but never had one upon his back. It must certainly be interesting to form such a bond. The dark stallion bowed his head and looked at her with a smile, "Hello, it is a beautiful day for a roam." He flicked his wings outward to clear more snow and folded them back neatly against him.

Thera made a face at the stallion's statement, and Aldora couldn't help bursting out into laughter, attempting to smother it to little avail. The mare cleared her throat, and when the hawk's fit quieted to a soft background giggling, the soquili replied, "I ah... Apologise for my companion. I'm not a fan of cold weather, and she seems to find it quite amusing. And I'm afraid I can't appreciate today's weather, given the abundant amounts of snow." After a moment's consideration, she lifted each of her hooves to shake the snow off them again, perhaps to emphasise her point. She continued absently, attempting to lighten the conversation and appear less of a "big grump" as Aldora often put it, "Do you like snow?"

He stared in surprise at the hawk for a moment. Its laughter amused him so he smiled, "It is certainly colder, difficult to find a place for rest beneath the stars. But the snow itself is interesting......it is cold and powdery and melt on your tongue. Far into the glades it is so packed it makes for good running, and by the slopes and the forests it is so soft you can roll in it like feathers. And it turns the rivers and lakes into ice.....I find it quite magical." Notte feared he may have launched into a long speech and an unbidden blush appeared, "I apologise...um....." he floundered for a name too late to realise she has not said it yet, "Your companion is curious...I am Notte...." What a bizarre string of words.....Notte has become quite flummoxed.

A warm smile crept up Thera's face, the stallion's vivid description of the snow enlightening her. She was glad she found some sort of immediate connection with the stallion--though the connection was not so intimate as with Moir. The blush she ignored, as it came and went with her attention drawn more to the long string of words of snow. "Seems snow opens up new places for you. But for me, it's troublesome." She shivered once and blew out, staring at the dense cloud she had made with her breath in slight agitation. "It's better when the season for warm comes."
"I must say so myself that warmer breezes are easier to glide on," the hawk commented curtly before withdrawing to the confines of Thera's back. Her position retracted as she made herself more comfortable; perhaps it would be a good time to take a rest... There wasn't much company to deal with, anyways.
Thera sighed as Aldora settled into a doze. "No worries, I do hope you excuse Aldora. She's been cranky as of late." She chuckled as the stallion made known his name and dipped her head as she introduced herself as well, "Thera. What brought you out to the world of cold before I came along, anyways?" She gestured somewhere vaguely by tilting her head to the side, "Shouldn't you be in a warm enclosure? Or did the snow tempt you too much?"

Notte laughed. He beat his large wings so that the swirls of snow whirl around them instead of on them. "it will be warmer soon, even the new buds are slowly making their way up. And soon Aldora will be able to glide again." Chuckling at the hawk, he turned to Thera, deep eyes looking warmly at her, "perhaps we should try to find a cave to shelter or atleast trees to avoid the heavy storms." Their companionship intrigued him, a mare and a hawk abroad in the wild lands. He was wondering what they were doing out here when she asked the question. For a moment, a look of sadness flitted through his face, before he composed it again, and smiled, "I have no home to be warm, my days and nights are spent wandering the lands, I sleep beneath the stars when the weather warrants it. Indeed I was asleep when a chunk of snow fell on me so I came to look around." He chuckled, trying to lighten the situation, "you can imagine that the cold and the wet wasn't pleasant when a soquili is dreaming of the warm sun and the tickles of grass beneath our hooves." Notte Rache twitched his tail, taking a few steps towards Thera and peering at the sleeping Aldora upon her back.

"Sounds all too familiar," Thera commented. Warm places to stay--that had been all she and Aldora looked for in the past few days. Though the winter was almost coming to an end, it was still early enough to take refuge in a cozy cave. "Great minds think alike..." she murmured.
Thera quickly inspected the area, and at first it didn't seem like there were any noticeable places to travel to for warmth. Notte was possibly more informed about the area--she'd be safe with another wind anyways, right? Wings were useful in times of peril. She was so concentrated in thought, however, that the flitter of sadness in Notte went by unnoticed, as well as the tone in his reply. "Almost like me. I've found a home with two light-skinned creatures that walk on two legs, though I'm not always there. Saved one from danger once, and ever since, I've found... a strange affinity for them. Nature is one's best calling, though. It called me to these lands."
A shiver came as Thera did indeed imagined the frigid wetness. And as Notte came closer to peer at Aldora, Thera felt the need to direct the conversation elsewhere. "She'll be okay. Nothing disturbs her--if it were raining, she'd be snoring. Though for now, she's only half-awake. Can't be totally gone when company's here." She sighed. Oh, why did Aldora have to be outright crude at times? "Where are the good places to stay at, though? It'd be nice to get out of the snow as soon as we can."

Notte nodded and shook himself, clearing more snow. It was hard on the wings, getting between the feathers and turning icy cold. He began to walk, inviting her along, "Let's keep near the trees, by the mountains. There should be areas rounded off from the wind and snow." The stallion walked on the outside, weaving through the trees, occasionally glancing to the side at Thera. "The two leggeds.....your home is with them?" He has always neared the strange growths that were wood and not trees, smelt of animals and not of animals. The two leggeds did things that were weird to him, but more and more he hears of soquilis who herd with them. "Do they treat you well?" he asked, swishing a tail at an all too curious bird.

A smile and short chuckle came from Thera as Notte cleared his wings. For a stallion that had such a great love for the snow, he seemed quite high-strung when it came to keeping his coat clean. However, she couldn't say anything--she was the same.
"Areas without wind and snow... Sounds so pleasing already," she said as she looked to the white-blanketed sky. The range of her vision allowed for her to keep close to Notte while focusing on the various beauties of the scenery. At least, while she followed Notte this way, she did not need to determine herself which way to turn or which tree to pass. "This is the life... Nice, kind black stallion to follow, warm place to look forward to... And Aldora sleeping on my back, all the while keeping that one spot warm with her small body." She spoke partially to herself, wondering if Notte even acknowledged her voice amidst his navigating.
As soon as Notte presented his question, Thera sensed a tinge of resentment to what they called the "two-leggeds" in his tone. A long pause came before she replied, "As I've mentioned, I do not call it my home, exactly. Others that the two-leggeds seem to be affiliated with lodge with them more often than I. It seems they have made more friends of our kind than just me. I suppose... they are good creatures, to be in our world without causing chaos. You know?"
"As for treating me well," she continued after laughing softly at Notte's intrusive bird, "they provide food and warmth whenever I'm there, so I suppose... Perhaps you should visit with me sometime, eh?"

He paused, trying to listen to her words while taking care to not bump into trees. He always try to pay attention to others for it is fortunate to be able to be accepted by another, however he wouldn't want several footfalls of snow to fall. The trees provided shelter yet their branches can become too laden and occasionally one can see the mounds of white cold powder on the ground, fresh fallen from the trees. He chuckled and attempted to slow down, now swaying besides her instead of infront of her, "A warm wonderful mare to speak with, a hawk which brings laughs, a bright although cold day, it is a very nice life." Occasionally he nudged against the brown mare to steer her. Notte hoped there is a warm cave nearby, the hawk particularly looked like she was turning blue... The stallion pondered over what Thera said. "perhaps..." he then replied slowly, still unsure. Two leggeds.....it wouldn't hurt perhaps just to see one. Briefly. Afterall.....they are something new he wasn't familiar with. With the thought of something new to explore then, his walk added an extra spring, and he smiled at his companion.

Appreciation slowly dawned on Thera for the stallion's watchful eye over the pitfalls of nature. Though the mood was almost too quiet for her taste, enjoyment surprisingly manifested itself in the moment. The apparent warmth radiating off of Notte contributed to the feeling as he began to walk alongside her.
"Hey, hey, no need to mock me," she asserted as the stallion followed the form in her earlier statement, "I meant it." A smile accompanied her honest statement.
Long silences came with the long turns, paths, and trees the two went through. But it was not unbearable, for thoughts filled the mare's mind--the stallion was hesitant of two-leggeds. She knew without him saying it. She'll show him otherwise, one day, mayhap when the winds blew the two together again. "And--" Thera began to say, until her eyes had caught a glimmer of rescue from the cold winter, "--Cave!" Her walk transitioned into a canter, and then into a quick gallop, and she threw back her head and looked towards Notte, whom she seemed to have forgotten in the surprise of newfound refuge. "Come on, Notte! It is calling to us!"
The urgency in Thera's voice, or the disturbing noise and shakes from the galloping must have given Aldora's silent form a waking jolt, as one eye popped open while a talon instinctively grasped harder onto Thera's back.
"What..?! Are you running away from the kind old stallion, now?" she sharply asked, anger from being waken showing in her tone.
Thera's acknowledgment of her hawk companion's words shown when she happily piped, "Cold away, away from cold! Cave!"

He laughed, quickening his pace to run after Thera in view of the cave. It was nicely sheltered off, and he noticed her acute eye in spotting it. " Great work Thera," he commented, trailing after her, only momentarily remembering to think about bears. The large beasts of the forest tend to find seclusion in such caves, so only then did he remember, to leap before her, hastily backing her away, "hold on..." he caution, lifting nostrils into the air and trying to scent the telltale musk of the large bear. There didn't seem to be any...but it was better to be safe....the cold may mask the scent. Tentatively, Notte stuck his head into the cave, then trotted in, blinking in the darkness until he grew accustomed and could see. "Alright.....I think...." he invited Thera and Aldora in.

Thera had been startled at the black stallion's barricading her that she almost collided into him. She almost blushed, feeling well protected, but snorted and shook it aside, knowing that she could take care of herself. As Notte was thoroughly through with sniffing around, she followed him curiously into the enclosement.
"What're you so scared of?" chirped the hawk almost mockingly. She flapped her wings as soon as Thera entered the cave, as the breeze vanished once inside, and it made Aldora feel vaguely vulnerable. Then again, she didn't really need much wind to fly in, though it felt much less tiring, and at least the biting cold was away!
"Notte cares for our safety, don't say that," Thera snapped, shaking the hawk on her back. She nickered softly to Notte in thanks, and made her way into a part of the cave that did not feel the wrath of the cold outside. It was warmer, and Thera motioned to Notte to join her with her wings. She wondered if anyone else had been here recently, and then yawned. Their journey had been somewhat tiring, yes, but she would enjoy just a bit more chatter before dozing off--
"I wonder if there's any other stallion and mare pairs out there searching for shelter like us. And I wonder what Moir is doing..." She added the last part with total disregard of Notte's knowledge of her good friend.
