Selene walked the woods, comfortable in the night. Next to her was her daughter, so grown, and beautiful. And jittery. Goodness, just the way the newly grown mare jumped about made Selene on edge. "Will you stop that?" she said again, as Yue growled at yet another poor owl hooting at them. "The night life isn't -that- interesting."

"You have no sense of adventure." Yue informed her mother, tartly.

"And you don't know what adventure really means, young lady. You've grown up surrounded by some of the oddities of life. If you consider a simple walk at night to be an adventure..."

"You never let me stay up this late." she snapped. "'Go to bed baby, sleep will make you grow big and strong, and you can beat up Quisty in the morning.' Yet.... you know.... I never did. You tricked me, didn't you?"

She shook her head, rolled her eyes. "I think our dear friend Safi was a bad influence on you, young lady. And he'd be proud to hear it."

Yue tossed her head. "Nonsense. As if that stallion could have any influence on me." But she was silent. Until she noticed a figure in the distance. "I wonder who that would be?"

Selene shook her head. Shrugged. "Well, we can go find out, if you like. You did learn to fly, right?" The look Yue gave her mother was withering. "Just checking, dear." And so they trotted towards the figure, both too curious for their own good.

Selene eyed the figure cautiously as they got closer. He was like a dark spot against the sky. She could tell it was a stallion (she thought) by the muscular... oh! Could it be... Rahu? She slowed, suddenly uncertain. It had been a long time, and when they had parted, when Yue... hadn't even been born yet. Oh, oh dear.

She glanced at her daughter, haughty and proud beside her, and winced a bit. Would he be upset? That he'd never been properly introduced to his 'grandchild'? Would he be angry at her, for not hunting him down more, to say hello?

Selene pulled up to the dark stallion and inclined her head politely. "Rahu." her voice was hesitant. Awkward. "I, uh... never got around to introducing you to my children." she said, finally. "Better late than never. Unfortunately, one lives with his father, but this is my daughter, Yue Shua-"

"We've met." Yue's voice was icy cool. "I remember him."

"Oh..." She looked awkward again. How to speak to her father, when he was being so... quiet, and her daughter so icy?

Her head lifted, tilted. "And what effort did you make to come see me, Rahu? I had a child to take care of, and very little time to just wander about looking for you. I was planning to tell you, and introduce you. It just never panned out well, I'm afraid."

Yue's head tilted as well. "And you're right, Rahu. They weren't pleasant at all. But I bet you could see me now, couldn't you." her voice was snide, and Selene hid her confused look again. "Mother, if we could take our leave? Something smells foul."

"You can go, of course, Yue." she murmured. Yue stood there expectantly, head tilted proudly. "I think I'll finish any conversation. I'll see you back at the teepee."

"I'll wait for you." Yue trotted off a few feet, to be out of ear-shot, and nosed at the grass.

"So, did you ever plan to attempt to see your 'family', or just wait until they wandered across you one night while you were hiding in the grass?" Selene said, almost snidely. "You made no effort to see us, or meet Yue and Chen either, that I was informed of!"

"How am I to know that, Rahu? When was the last time we spoke?" she -certainly- didn't like the way he was acting, and instinctively took a more agressive pose, ears going back. "I told you I was going to have babies, you could have made an educated guess I wouldn't be able to fly well in that condition. "I didn't know what happened to you. Really, we've never shared where we live, even though I called you my father, and you were, there wasn't much binding us. And now my little girl hates you, for some undefinable reason? Did you want to share, or shall I hear the Yue-version first?"

She tilted her head. "The basket was Faust. Not long after, I became with foal. Their father is Forrest, a stallion who was staying at my teepee. We... aren't mates. I chose against that. Faust is a stallion grown... he considers Calamity his father. And as you can see, Yue Shuang is a mare now, and my son is a stallion as well. You have missed much, Rahu."

She eyed him. "I do hope your journey went well."

She watched him silently. "What are you thinking? I see you looking at us. Do you think less of me, for wanting to be a mother? Less of me for wanting something that you couldn't give me?"

Family. Family of her own blood.
