A nearly silent thud sounded as the ebony male landed his death strike on an unsuspecting mouse. Yes, a feable bite sized snack. Raising a single paw off the small animal, Kei followed the movement with a quick flick, sending the mammal into his waiting jaws. And with that, his stomach continued to grumble. Roaming the savanah, Kei had found little to no signs of any type of herds. Perhaps he had lost his touch. Or maybe he had finally grown to lazy to actually hunt something that required effort.
He had come a long way from his cub life. No longer skinny, no longer struggling. Sure, he was alive, healthy and well. But he was empty. Odd colored eyes opened then to gaze across the tall grasses, his large form beginning to slowly creep towards his lounging rock.

Shiri had begun searching the out skirts of the savannah for some news of her friend Chuakari. It had been months since she had left in a hurry, feeling unwanted and suddenly aware of her difference of species. Kari had found a mate during their last meeting, a young lion, from which Shiri could only assume was good natured and caring. And though she shared similarities with Kari's mate, it still felt strange to remain in their presense. A clear love was developing and Shiri begun to feel as though she only burdened them with meaningless conversation.
Now that she had quite a good deal of time to think over the situation, it seemed foolish to leave on accounts of feeling out of place for a moment. Surely Kari would not have allowed her friend to remain with those thoughts. Kari had never let Shiri down in the past.
With a worried expression, Shiri realised there was no sign of Kari and her mate anywhere and she had searched the entire mass of where they called home for such a long amount of time. Bothered and now feeling guilty for having left so long ago, Shiri suddenly paused. Her eyes quickly begun to well up with water and slowly, a tear began to slide down her furred cheek. It was followed by a second and then no others. Shiri forced back her guilt and sadness and merely sat upon the grass beneath her. Why had she always been so foolish?

With a flick of his head, the large male ruffled his mane, continuing his stalking motion in the direction of no where in particular. His mis-matched eyes lazily stared at the savannah grasses his paws parted in an ungraceful manner. Kei grumbled, irritated by the herds that had moved from these grounds. They hadn't left him with much to pick off besides the sickly or elderly few unable to keep up with the moving herds. With a snort the male then pricked his ears, catching the sound of a slight movement in the grass up ahead. This creature was larger than any mouse or bird he had been after recently and with that confirmation Kei lowered his ebony frame into a hunting stance. His belly rubbed the shorter strands of grass and he grinned inwardsly, creeping in what he didn't know was Shiri's direction.
A tan form could be seen through the thick grasslands and he figured the shape to be a gazelle grazing on what would soon be his last meal. Shifting his weight back and forth, the male readied himself for a pounce. Power surged in the massive lion's hind legs and sprung him towards the awaiting gazelle.
Claws extended Kei cleared the high grasses and caught a real look at what he was hunting. A lioness?! Instantaneously his claws retracted and the male twisted his body in the air, brushing over the female and hitting the ground in a rolling motion on the other side. Comming to a stop on his side Kei lifted his large head and glanced towards the female to make sure he hadn't hurt her. Then, with a raised brow the male inquired, " Why don't you be a bit more careful? " he slightly barked, yet it was moreso in a teasing manner. " Might want to keep an eye out on your surroundings.." he offered her some advice as he then stood, dark tail flicking behind him as he stepped towards the smaller female. " You could have become lunch."

Lost in her own thought, Shiri did not hear the male creeping towards her, until he had lept into the air. With a pair of wide, frightened eyes, Shiri lept to her feet in an attempt to dodge the lion. From the hungry gaze in his eyes, the lioness assumed he had meant to attack and perhaps do her in. Having been raised in the company of rogues, she had often heard horrible stories of rogues attacking their own kind in order to remain alive. The female's form shook with fear.
Having been knocked into by the male, Shiri felt her own body hit against the ground with a light thud. Nearby came a second thud and Shiri's eyes opened slowly to check where the male had landed. Only a few inches away, the stranger was beginning to dust himself off. By the words in which he spoke, Shiri could tell that it had been an accident that the two came across one another.
Now more embarassed than frightened, Shiri brought herself into an upright position and licked her paws to keep her eyes focused on something other than the male before her. "I was looking for someone.." she said quietly, trying to think up some reason why she had not acted sooner.

"Looking?" Kei inquired as he lightly chuckled, glancing around before focusing his attention on the female before him. She had a tuft of fur partly sheilding her eyes, though of what he could see, she had the most striking color eyes he had ever seen. This left him speechless for a moment, losing thought of what he was about to say. Though, he regained his composer quickly. " Well, I'd say you weren't doing a very good job seeing as you didn't notice me. "
The male teased her once more as he then shook his light colored mane free of dirt. Unfortunately it was easy to get dirty and there was usually not a spring nearby to bathe or rest in. The ebony colored lion made his way around the smaller femme, circling her with a fast forming grin on his maw.
" Now, who was it you were looking for? Perhaps I've seen them around. " He offered. The truth was he hadnt seen a lion for what had seemed to be months, or more. She wouldn't know that though.

Having been slightly shy and antisocial her entire life, Shiri would not assume that the male's stumbling tongue was due to her own appearance. She found her cheeks flush an even brighter pink, however, when the male continued to speak. How would he know how well a job she was doing? Surely her accident with him was purely that - an accident! Straightening her composure and trying to look more impressive, the female could not help but snap back, "I have actually scanned this area completely with no sign of her. Perhaps I did not notice you because I was so deeply concentrating?"
It was nerve wracking to see the male circle her, especially with such a silly expression on his maw. What did he find amusing about their situation? He did not even know her to smile so foolishly! Glancing around and trying to ensure that the male did not have an opportunity at her unarmed back, the female did not rule out the male's hunger and the chance of being eaten.
So deep in thought and worry of the male, the female felt her body jump when he began to speak again. Smiling nervously, the female sat as comfortable as possible and tried to ease her nerves. Realising how silly she might have looked, the female answered the male's question for the sake of conversation. Perhaps he didn't notice her jump? "I'm actually looking for a close friend of mine.. I have not seen her in months.. I'm slightly worried."

Kei, having noticed that his circling was making the female slightly nervous, stopped and sat down upon his haunches. Mis-matched eyes watched as she made it so as he would not be caught staring at her back. Did she think him to be some sort of starving lion with no morals? Surely he would not kill if he were not hungry. Killing for sport was something he had grown not to tolerate. And secondly, he didn't see the point in killing his own kind. Yet, that proved difficult with kei anyways due tot he fact that he rarely saw his own on these lands. This female was in fact the first he had seen in what seemed like ages.
Kei chuckled once more, his tail flipping back and forth on the ground at his side, much int he manner a fish out of water would. " You've scanned this whole area? " He repeated. " Yet, only now you find me? How are you certain you didn't miss her?"
The grin that had played at his maw moments ago returned and Kei stood, taking a few steps towards her. As she spoke her last words he slowed and allowed his grin to fade, only to be replaced by a soft smile. "Well, it seems you care deeply for this friend. " He observed aloud, lowering his head to view those dashing bright green eyes. "Would you accept the help of a rogue lion? I do know these lands very well, perhaps I could be of some help?"

In truth, Shiri was absolutely uncertain just what the male was planning to do with her. She had met many males in her life, but had never been hunted by one. Understanding that it was very possibly a mistake, the female was beginning to calm down, but she continued to remain alert. She heard stories of lions becoming mad and eating their own kind in an attempt to survive. Males could be unpredictable. The females hunted with a particular style, but the males, so often unneeded to hunt, needed to learn on their own and this often led to far more aggressive manners.
Shiri's cheek glowed pink as the male questioned her. Was he amused at how horribly she had looked over the land? It was both embarassing and frustrating to be made aware of this. Looking off towards the sunset, she spoke quietly, "I am certain I would not have missed her.. She's pink in color." Her comment sounded as though it was a retort, to challenge him.
The soft smile Shiri observed on the male caused her fur to stand on end. A light breeze passed over the two and she allowed her form to shiver as though to hide that she could not seem to control herself around him. He looked to her so comfortingly and it felt as though she had known him for years. With only the knowledge of what he had offered, it seemed strange to accept his offer. Friendships needed to begin somewhere, but was this not incredibly quick to travel alone with a stranger?

A smug smile made itself comfortable on Kei's maw as he settled now in one spot, tilted his head only slightly as he simply observed the female. One could learn much by just watching. The way she held herself, the manner in which her cheeks glowed pink, the slight retort to his teasing ways. Unfortunately for Kei, even though he could learn much, the young lion was unable to remain quiet for too long. "Pink?" His somewhat husky voice sounded as he then leaned slyly towards her, smile widening in a jesting manner.
"Much like the color you're turning right now?" Kei was standing then and had rose his head a bit to catch the breeze that had swiftly brushed past them. He searched for the scent of another within the winds, yet found nothing of great use.
Without waiting for an answer he jerked his head and turned. " Well, we won't find the pink one just sitting around. " A trodded a bit ahead before turning fully around, chest puffed out and head held high. His mismatched orbs searched her as he rose a brow. " I say we should find her quickly before something bigger and meaner does. " He was teasing of course, though int he back of the mind he knew the truth of his words. He had seen many things roaming the Savahna as he grew and it was never impossible to encounter such a thing.
A grin formed and he motioned for her to follow. " Either way, i'm going to be on my way, lady lioness. It's your choice to join. "

At this point Shiri was uncertain if the male was refering to her friend or the glow to her cheeks. Blushing more fiercly now, the lioness attempted to gather herself. The way in which Kei spoke and the gestures he made had Shiri's fur standing on end. It must be the cold, she told herself. "Yes.. She's a pink colored cheetah. Not a bright pink, but somewhat pale pink... I haven't seen her in so long, but I know I haven't forgotten what she's looked like." Thinking of her friend took her mind off Kei for a moment, until he mentioned her cheeks.
The winds indeed brought nothing to Kei's nose. They were fairly alone in rogue territory. The faint noises of prey animals could possibly be heard if one paid a great deal of attention, but other than their conversation, the sky brought absolute silence around them. "It must be the cold..." She said out loud, blaming both her shivering, goosebumps and blush on it. "It was so much hotter earlier..." Lime green eyes looked around in order to keep from looking at Kei.
Though Kei was teasing Shiri, the lioness' eyes grew wide. "You don't really think that she could be in trouble do you?" At this note, she was certainly willing to join Kei's side in order to find one of her closest friends. It had been far too long since they had seen one another. "So.. you'll help me find her?"

" You think i'd make an offer and then go back on it?" Kei tsked the lioness whom now strode at his side and shook his head, silver bangs in his eyes. He had already offered to help the female and was certainly not a male that went back on his intentions or words. " Do I really give off that vibe?" The male continued on, noticing then the quickened pace of the female, her blush once more and her blame of these things on the cold. Well. It seemed fairly warm to him, yet his dark coat didnt help with that much.
"Trouble?" Kei paused. Of course he could sugar coat the answer. That was what some lioness hoped for he supposed. The male had little experience with them though. So, he said the first thing that came to his mind, which was what he believed to be the truth.
" Well, if a cheetah can catch prey and keep it long enough to sustain itself then one will be fine. Though there are many scavangers on these grounds. " Another pause made itself present, for he slightly considered himself a part of that territory when hunting looked dim for himself. " Many that are easily able to overpower a cheetah. Not to mention most travel in groups. "
As he spoke his voice reamined slightly low now that they were ont he move, head lowered as well to keep himself slightly concealed within the tall grasses. " If the cheetah can't get enough food, she will surely slow and die. That is the way on these lands. Pity that cheetahs only have their speed to rely on. "
With such a comment he only was referring to the way lions hunted as a pride, intelligently and relying on one another for their next meal.
He continued to walk, stride slow and heavy, tail flipping about in an almost bored manner behind him.

Shiri's cheeks blushed further. Her question had certainly not come out as she intended it. Never had she meant to offend the male and now she worried that he might no longer wish to accompany her. Thankful that he hadn't left already, Shiri continued at his side, watching as his bangs fell during his talk. Gathering her thoughts, she answered him, trying to apologise for any misunderstanding, "I didn't mean that.. I don't think that of you.. I just.. I am surprised you're so eager to help.. I mean. You don't really know much of me."
Shiri remember Chuakari as a kitten and shuddered at the thought. The cheetah was somewhat naive, but at this point in time she was an adult and must have certainly grown up. Last Shiri knew, Kari had found a male she was interested in. The thought of finding a mate likely forced the cheetah to think of things more differently. Shiri hoped that her friend had been safe with the male. Forgetting that she hadn't mentioned that, Shiri added, "She might be with someone.. so she wouldn't have to hunt alone."
Shiri ignored the male's comments on cheetahs. It was clear by his words that he thought highly of the structure of a prides hunting technique, but Shiri had never witnessed it for herself. And sadly, she was an awful hunter. Perhaps that was one of the things Kei should show her on their search.
Shiri followed Kei, determined to find her friend with his company.
