This is really just a question, but I guess is also a discussion about treats for dogs ^^
Now, I am currently training my dog to compete in agility trials, and naturally I use treats. Usually I use either scraps of ham or sausage or pedigree chum gravy bone biscuits, but I was getting a bit worried that she'd put on too much weight that way. Then, yesterday, I found a treat that she really likes, which is little cat food pellet/biscuity things [not wet food] These are small and shouldn't make her put on weight, but I got a bit worried so I came on here. Do you think that if she eats too many of these then it could harm her? She eats them off the floor sometimes anyway where the cats have dropped it but I thought I should ask anyway. Or does anyone know of some small treats that can be used regularly? What do you guys use?
Thanks!

PetSmart has a brand of training treats that are smaller than a penny and are soft. my dog loves them! they are easy to eat, and you can give them as many as needed. you shouldnt worry about weight gain because she is getting tons of exercise from agility. if you dont have a PetSmart, try another pet store and go for the smallest treat you can find. If it is not ment for training, read the directions carefully! some can cause minor digestive problems if over consumed (like Greenies)

If you're doing agility training, she'll be burning enough calories that it really won't matter what treats you use. I would stay away from cat food though- Cat food is far too high in protein for dogs.

I personally use things like roast beef and cheese for training- Special stuff that my dog wouldn't normally get. It really makes them excited for training sessions, lol.

That's why I use ham ^^ I take bits of sausages with us on walks as well so shecomes back when I ask her to.

When I work with my dog, she is perfectly happy to get her dog food as treats. When i show her, though, I usually get something like Beggin strips and break them up really small.

I chop up hotdogs. D: I know they're not really great for the dogs, but a half a hotdog isn't going to hurt a 90lb animal, and they don't usually get them, so a half a hotdog lasts the entire time we're working.

I use Eight-In-One chicken flavored ferret treats and cut them in thirds. I makes them tiny and dogs just go crazy for them! You can get threw a training session and only use about 3 whole treats. and they have tons of good stuff in them. sweatdrop
