I'm sorry if this is repeated, but if anyone asked Stephenie this (at booksigning or online or anything) and she answered, could you tell me the answer/reason?
During New Moon, we found out that Alice had trouble seeing Jacob in the future, and he took her by surprise. I'm not sure everyone immediatly assumed this, but I figured that meant that vampire powers didn't work on werewolves.
But at the end Edward is able to read Jacob's mind?
So, my question is this:
Was there a specific point to Alice not seeing Jacob in the future, or was it just something Stephenie would find amusing?

I suppose it's the same type of thing as Bella's immunity to Edward and not Alice, only reversed.
I don't officially know the answer, but if I were to guess I suppose that Jacob is susceptible to powers that involve his mind, but otherwise is unaffected. Maybe.
Either that or the fact that Alice isn't always right and she can't foresee everything about everyone in her life. :3
If you check the Lexicon, I'm sure the answer will show up on there with some digging.

Don't know. But here's a funny story about my dad.
One morning I was kind of hyper and went into the kitchen. My dad was there. I told him that real men sparkle. He said "Sissies sparkle! Real men kick a**!"
I laughed about it, got ready, and went to school.
Later that day, after I had come home, he came up to me and told me he was leaving to go to the hardware store. Something glistened on his face. Sparkles!
I told him he was a real man because he had sparkles on his face. He made me pick the glitters off. I was sad.
(Btw, the sparkles were from moving our glitter-covered poinsetta.)

Hmmmmmm Maybe it's because Werewolves are a bit more vocal than the hard-to-read-their-faces vampires? Werewolves whole point of transformation is due to how they feel at the time. Edward's power deals more with that, so perhaps that's why they're not immune to him. Alice however, has more of a power that deals with the unknown. (More so than Edward's, some times you can simply read faces.) I'm sure I'm not making sense but...I dunno, maybe it works out?

I told my older cuz (he is a 16 years old, gothic, total player, obsessed with girls, and somewat a machman kinda guy.) that real men sparkle and he said basicly the same thing, except he used more cures words.

It could also be a relation in that Jacob never fully thinks ahead and so has no plan; therefore Alice cannot see him. If he doesn't place himself anywhere and makes but one decision (continuing as a werewolf), then it's hard if not impossible for Alice to scry him. She says in Twilight that she can only see the outcome of the person's current decisions. Jacob never really makes a decision except on continuing being a werewolf. I hope this makes some sense. sweatdrop
