Maryke was determined to make this a good day. Which was a far cry from the self inflicted torment she'd been in for months. Her last change had rendered her helpless, not physically per se, but it was emotionally draining. It was probably like that for everyone. So if she was taking these changes harder then they were it was her own damn fault. And Billy, of all people, had made her see that. Compared to the others she had it good, better even, so much better. So what if she had a tail and fur now? She was a fighter, who cared...really.
She would deal.
She was dealing.
And now that she had something to pass the time, Billy's little freakshow or sideshow...whatever this theatre thing he was planning, it made things easier. A hell of a lot. She didn't really feel that depressed anymore. When she thought about it, those quiet nights in her room, remembering what she used to have, who she was, then yeah it hurt. Badly. But there was a simple solution to that.
Don't think.
And she didn't. Right now for instance the only thing on her mind was whether she wanted fruits or vegitables. Her nose twitched at the array of food under the sneeze gaurd. She opted for the fruit. It just made her mouth water, like chocolate or other sweets before usuallly had. So picking up and cradling an orange her hazels instantly ticked around for a place to sit.

Richard was in a very similar situation himself, although his own funk had not lasted quite as long. The little newletter was coming along and the day spent on the construction site had made him feel useful. He was definitely a bit sore today though, he would go and help out some more once his arms stopped feeling like jelly.
Overall he was feeling better than he had in weeks, he had even taken the coverings on his mirrors. Although his eye avoided them still. If he kept busy he wouldn't have to think about the monster he was becoming. The female monster.
He had been writing a blurb on the construction when his stomach growled for attention. He plate consisted of various cooked meats and a token buttered roll. He probably wouldn't eat it but he had convinced himself he would try. Plate full, he moved toward the tables. Enroute he tried to squeeze past the woman who appeared memerized by the fruit table. He forgot to take into account of his own tail which lashed happily behind him. As he moved past his tail slide along Maryke's own.

Maryke's tail was now apart of her, whether she wanted it to be or not. So along with that came nerves and the whole shebang. Just like an extra limb it attacked the same way. So when she felt something slide against it and at a near push she jumped. Clumsily as she jumped her tail jerked and she ended up knocking over a napkin dispenser and as she went to pick that up she dropped her orange. Cursing under her breath she quickly gathered up both articles, the dispencer with both hands and the orange with her tail.
"Sorry about that," she muttered looking up and over at whoever it was who had just so unwittingly bumped into her. Normally she would curse, she would demand that this person pay better attention, just like she had done with that Ian guy, so very long ago it seemed like. But with all these changes and her own self outlook diminishing she really no longer felt the need to be so catty when she wasn't even good enough to save herself from this place.

At the crash Richard whipped around, his last in encounter with Zach had been in the cafe and he remained a bit jumpy as long as he stood on the blue and white tile. He had no idea what had disturbed the woman, he had grow used to his tail sliding againist things has he walked and the soft fur of Maryke's tail had barely registered. He expression was slightly accusitory as he surveyed the scattered objects.
"Are you..." He expression changed from disapproving to curious midsentance as Maryke's tail curled around the orange and pick it up. "Alright?"

After she put the dispenser back the orange soon flew through the air from her tail to her hand. She caught it and instantly rubbed it with her free hand to make sure the thing was still edible. She looked back over to the man, her nose twitching a bit. She couldn't help but let her hazels slide up and down his form. Her stomach turned in knots as she could only guess at what this poor man was turning into, but for his sake she stopped staring.
"What? oh...yeah I'm fine," she said smoothingly, though she felt herself redden slightly. Since her last change she had been so nimble with her limbs and now her tail, and even before that when she was human (such a horrifying thought that human would be considered the former) she wasn't known for being a clutz. Maybe she was just having an 'off' day.
"You okay? Everything in working order I hope?"

Richard had abstractly observed that Maryke was and was still an attractive woman by island standards. However that observation when no further than an attractive coffee table did. Usually beautify would trigger a casade of thoughts that invoked grief ridden imagery of his long departed wife. Now there was nothing, no stirring in his loins or any where else. Markye's inquery focused he thoughts on that abence and he stiffened, the tail froze and the tentacles began to peek over his shoulders.
He bit his lip for a moment as he assured himself the statement was innocent, not a dig. There was no way Markye could see his almost breasts bound underneath his shirt. He forced himself to relax.
He smiled a tight lipped smile and forced a bit of a chuckle. "Eh more or less." He extended a hand, "I'm Richard. I don't believe we've met."

Maryke's brow quirked as he stiffened and she couldn't help but do the same. Briefly she wondered if she had said or done something wrong, but no, she knew that she hadn't. She saw something in his eyes when he stopped. She couldn't saw what, but something there and that unnerved her. When she saw the tentacles peek over his shoulders she took an instinctive step back. She hadn't seen the feminine qualities beneath his shirt and even if she had, who could tell that from any changes an animal would bestow.
She saw him relax she tried to do the same, but she was still cautious. Her tail hang loosely at her backside and her fur was bristled slightly. She looked down at his hand and then smiled, "No, I don't think we have...I'm Maryke," she said, giving his hand a few short pumps.

"Nice to meet you." Richard's grip wasn't nearly as strong as it once was. It was due to the shortened digits and the fact that he didn't want to peirce her hand with his claws.
"Care to do lunch?" He smiled a bit, flashing his pointed canines. It was nice to meet some one friendly. He didn't seem to notice her skitisiness. He gestured to a table. He quickly glanced over her changes and assumed she had only one change. "Been here less than nine weeks?"

She didn't quell on the light grip, being used to other paws and the like so she merely nodded at the gesture. At the offer she grinned.
"Sure," she held her orange closer and made to follow him whereever he was sitting. She didn't have anywhere to go anyway. She had made nice with some of the locals, she wasn't sure if they would even remember her as it'd been so long, and for the others...well their meetings had been less then gracious. All the same, Richard seemed nice. And she needed nice these days.
"Uh no...I've been here," she stopped suddenly, running a hand through her wavy brunette locks. It'd been so long since she'd been a madam, been her former self. But to pinpoint an exact time? She couldn't. "I'm not sure...couple of months...this is my second," she said, waving towards herself. Meaning that it'd been her second change.

Richard sat down at one of the tables, careful to avoid sitting on his tail. "Your second?" He looked whimsical for a moment. " I haven't seen you around before, this is my..." He looked grim and tone shifted toward the bitter end of the sprectum. "Second." He flex his hand breifly, then picked up his fork and stabbed the medium rare steak on his plate, red juices oozed from it.
He cut a piece away from the hunk and chewed on it. "Been keeping busy then?" He said between chews.

Maryke slid in across from him, easily lifting her tail up to sit down. "My second," she repeated, almost chuckling at the look in Richard's face. Again she was reminded of how easy she had it compared to the other's and she almost felt...no, her feel guilty? With all the wrongs she'd done why the hell would she feel guilty now? She decided not to think of it. And instead shifted her eyes down to Richard's plate.
Her stomach did a flip flop and it wasn't just a disgusting feeling rising up inside her stomach it was....something else. Something inside of her was quivering. Some unnamed fear that she never felt before. She had the strongest urge to run, just to run and hide...preferibly in a high place. But she pushed it down and ignored it.
"I'm not usually around," she said peeling her orange, though she wasn't really hungry anymore. "Since my last change I've...been.." she shrugged, "To put it bluntly, I had a breakdown and refused to come out of my duplex for a few months."

Richard had always enjoyed meat, but usually it was far more well done than this. And it had never tasted quite as good. He savored his meal, oblivious to to Maryke's disgust. He chuckled a bit. "I can understand that somewhat. I've been a bit of a recluse myself lately. Its been hell on the furniture." He waved his clawed hand.
Richard had not been dealing with his changes well and was ready to admit that as long as he didn't think about the end product of the changes. As a he didn't want to think about it he did ask Maryke what her animal was. "Now I'm just trying to keep myself busy with little projects."

"I would imagine so," she said, her eyes drifting to his claws. She quickly went back to her orange, remembering it was even there. She finished peeling it and then popped a piece in her mouth, her tail instantly flicking back and forth with how good it tasted. She tried hard not to pay attention to Richard's plate. But the coppery scent of blood still clung to her sensitive nose.
"Projects...that's good. Speaking of," she said smoothingly, letting the 'business' tone into her voice. " Have you heard about the theatre yet?"

"Ah Billy and his theater. Was over there the other day actually. Gaius seemed intent on working this old man to death." He winked good naturedly. "Was a good work out at least."
He paused and popped an eyebrow at her, "Why? You a performer? Billy is still hard up for acts I hear." He looked her over again. Maryke looked like she could be a model perhaps maybe a singer? The clothing and hair style screamed that she was one of those "fashionable" people. He didn't see toned muscle of a dancer or anything to else to indictate talent for the stage. She could be an actress though. He would certianly buy that.
"Shenzi's looking for a band I think." He added as he chompped down on another bite.

"Ah so you've heard of it," she said, setting her orange to the side and clasping her hands together. At the rest of his words she laughed, though she really didn't know any of the people he had mentioned.
"I am actually...I..." she chuckled slightly, her 'act' was so silly that she had trouble mentioning it but since he asked she finished, "juggle. Billy seemed really pleased with it, and to be honest, anything that makes me forget this hellhole we're all in...even something so stupid it's..." she smiled slightly, "alright in my book."
"I promised I'd help him find some more poor hapless victims," she continued while idily moving her hand back towards the forgotten fruit.
