I know I haven't kept up with the guild and I'm really sorry to have to ask you all a favor like this, but could you please help me out?
I need people to fill out a survey for me for an anthropology assignment,
I know this is probably not the right spot for it, but I need as many people to do it as possible! Please, fill it out, and if you know anyone not in the guild (family included) that could do it for me too, that'd be great!

Hooray for school. Always support the students, I say ^_~
Gender: Female Age: 22 Grade: senior in college Location (Country and state/province/territory): New Jersey, USA
(Place an M F or E next to the job) For each occupation, Please check whether you think the job is more male oriented, female oriented, or equal I'm going to give a warning now. This is what I think the job SHOULD be, not necessarily what the job really is represented by in the real world because in reality, there is still a high degree of occupational segregation still going on and there are still those who believe women and men have a natural predisposition and knack for certain jobs over others. Im going to answer the best I can according to how the jobs are gendered realistically or falsely. Some jobs have absolutely no reason to be gendered, I tend to answer Equal for these. Some jobs are too obviously gendered and for a concrete reason, so I will answer to how these jobs are skewed. I'll try to give a reason for my choices to clarify things Occupation Male Female Equal Doctor Equal (wage inequality in this field may or may not be explained by the fact that highly specialized (re: highly paid) fields like neurology seem to be even MORE male-dominated than general practice which has a higher ratio of male to female practitioners) Nurse Equal (Nursing is becoming a more equal playing ground although male nurses are paid more than female nurses) Construction Worker Male (I'd like to say Equal, but truth is in all the construction sites I've seen and I live among constant construction in my town, I have never seen a female construction worker) Teacher Equal (especially in the college atmosphere, which is higher paid and supported. Lower grades are filled predominantly by female teachers and lesser paid. However, even at the college level, female professors with equal credentials still get less than male professors) News Anchor Equal Weatherperson Equal Fireperson Male (undeniable male oriented down to the height and size requirements for joining the force that are skewed towards masculine body types) Police Officer Equal Politician Equal (though higher offices are held more by men than women, but on the local level, there is a good amount of both female and male politicians) Hair Stylist Equal (some of the most high end hair salons have predominantly male staff as far as I have seen) Custodian Equal Mechanic Equal (yeah yeah yeah, I know its not true, but there's nothing stopping a woman from fixing a car if she wants to learn how. Its not a particularly agressive/physically demanding job) Professional Wrestler Equal (although you have to see how men and women wrestlers are depicted in popular venues like the WWE. Men are these huge, hyper agressive brutes bent on destroying their opponents verbally and physically. The apex of insults is to insinuate your opponent is gay, aka not masculine. There have been ocassions where actual gay characters are created and written into the story line if only for the sole purpose to make them the butt of jokes and abuse. Women in wrestling called "divas" rarely wrestle for dominance as the men do. Their matches are absolutely ridiculous. They wrestle in mud, in food, wearing nothing but bikinis and their matches seem more like an effort to rip each others clothes off than anything else. They aren't taken seriously at all, if wrestling can even be taken seriously in the first place. The "divas" are the half time show, the T&A factor, not given credit for physical prowess or athleticism at all. One could say Chyna was the exception, but she no longer really wrestles and has gone under massive plastic surgery to look more like the typical diva) Athlete Equal (although when you look at how female and male athletes are represented once again, its highly unequal. Look at magazines featuring stories about female athletes, they are RARELY shown in action, in their uniforms, sweating, working, winning. More often these stellar athletes are shown in skimpy bikinis or holding sports equipment to strategically cover up nudity or in uber-feminine clothes in some playful pose to undermine the fact that they can kick your a**. Male athletes on the other hand are invariably shown in the awesome action shot of them scoring during a game or something.) Chef Equal (although the cooking world is actually predominantly male. The professional kitchen is an uber masculine place down to homophobia and anti feminist slurs. Women do occupy this space and they occupy it well. There are very credited women chefs who own their own restaurants and such, but its a men's arena) Lawyer Equal Secretary Female (unfortunatly, still very clearly a job considered suitable for females mostly. Fun fact, male secretaries still get paid more than their female counterparts even though females fill out this employment by a vast majority) Singer Equal Musician Equal SalesPerson Equal Pilot Equal (although Ive read testimonies by female pilots who have experienced passengers who walked off the plane because they didn't want to be flown by a female pilot) Flight Attendant Equal (I know its mostly female, but I do see a healthy number of male attendants on all the flights I've been on)

It's not a very professional way to be conducting research you know. You know those survey questions you asked are heavily loaded and don't warrant one word answers? Its nigh impossible to give one word answers without totally second guessing yourself unless you live under a rock and don't look at the world around you. This survey can totally be an avenue for deeper discussion and more material for your research if you'll let people. If discussion is not what you want you might consider restructuring your survey. Not all research methodologies are perfect on the first try and many times a single survey won't cut it. I just suggest you try again and maybe be more polite about it. No answers to any research survey can be called s**t. They might not really work towards your ends (and hell, you gotta accept that fact too. More often than not research leads to very different conclusions and flummoxes the entire project all together), but they are not s**t, not ever. If you think this, you might as well go try and find a sampling of people that will answer EXACTLY as you want them and expect them to. Sorry for the unreadability of my post though. I shoulda changed colors at least.
