"I've got to hand it to you, Selly, you certainly know how to track down a lovely place to escape from the world."
An interested look on his face, the blue and white stallion stood on the thick green grass, examining minutely the area that the two of them had flown into. Selene hadn't been kidding when she said that this place was awesome; if anything she had been understating the primitive beauty of the area.
As was to be expected from a place called 'the waterfall', the dominant feature of the area was the rushing waterfall; the two were a decent ways away from it right now, or it was doubtful whether Selene would have been able to hear even a trace of what Safi had said. But as it was, he was utterly mesmerized, golden eyes taking in every corner of the place before returning to the waterfall. So powerful, so beautiful...
Turning his head back to the mare that accompanied him, Safi flashed her a wide grin. "I can't believe you were willing to share this place, Selly!"

She grinned. "Well, everyone needs their own little place, right? I remember... seeing it for the first time. I don't remember very well who I was with, but I remember asking them... if the water was where the stars went when they were tired. It sparkled so, clear, and beautiful, and like nothing I had ever seen, you know?" she tilted her head towards him. "And you're the first person I've shared it with, I believe. The first person who ever made it this far with me." she had barely heard him, and that was part of the reason she'd shared the story. It was a special place for her, one she talked about often, and had invited people to in the past... but something had always kept them from making it, bar that one person who had shown it to her, and Calamity.
It had been so long since she'd seen him, or her father-figure, Rahu. For that matter, how long had it been since she'd seen Faust, the little boy-child she'd taken care of so carefully, who had run off when he was an adult, determined to make his 'father' proud of him...
"I don't share it lightly." she said finally, with a grin. "You tell anyone, I'll have to kill ya! It's my private place of contemplation." she winked, and nosed at a ruffled feather on his wing.

Tilting his head to one side, Safi listened as Selly explained the significance of this place to her. She didn't say in so many words why it was important, but the soft tone of her voice and the gentle look on her face had spoken volumes that words never could.
Consequently, the nuzzle he returned hers with was a bit gentler, more loving and serious, than those he usually gave her. This was special, and he wanted her to know he appreciated it. "I'll take the secret to my grave, Selly; you can count on it. Though..."
Here his smile flashed forth once more, impish and goofy. "I fail to see how you plan on being able to contemplate anything when I'm around; I'm such a big distraction, after all! I'd keep you from doing any thinking with all my nonsense, wouldn't I?" Unquestionably he would, but obviously she didn't need to always contemplate!

She couldn't help but laugh. And then she leaned her body against his, teasingly. "Well, you are a distraction." eyebrows waggled. "And you take away all my common sense, and replace it with feather-brained fluff."
She heaved off him, running up the small slope. The waterfall was a beautiful place, sheer walls by the fall, smooth as dark glass. The grass was dark green, and bountiful, and there was no shortage of shade along the edges of the small lake the waterfall fell into. The entire place sloped just a bit, so that on the edge of the lake, there was a small, wooded ledge, that one (namely Selene) could jump into, to make a delightful splash. The sun, when it wasn't cloudy, had a clear shot to make dozens of tiny rainbows, and she could tell you... it was a sight to die for.
The lake was smooth, and Selene called it her mirror-lake, because one could see theirself in it, and if they stared into it long enough, she decided, it would make you see beyond how -you- saw yourself, and you could look through the lake's eyes back at you. How others saw you.
The waterfall wasn't something that was important to her in words, so she appreciated Safi being able to understand so well what she was trying to say. The waterfall was something of hers. Not Rahu's, not Calamity's, not that long-ago stallion's. It symbolized no loss, only something constant and steady. Almost eternal, to her. It was here before she was, and she knew it would be there long after she left. It symbolized the person she wanted, and by sharing it with anyone, she was sharing a quiet hope, sharing a part of herself she'd only acknowledged rarely.

Smiling, Saf draped a wing over Selene and gave her a squeeze as she leaned against him. She was a good kid, Selene, one of the best friends he could ever hope to have, so the fact that she was willing to let him into this part of her world was all the more momentous. Still, now that he'd gotten the obligatory seriousness out of the way, all was smiles and teasing.
"Replaced your common sense with feather-brained fluff? And here I thought that was a normal occurance for you. Or have I always had this fluff-brained talent? Because you've always acted like a ninny around me!" Grinning, Safe nipped at one of her dark ears as it poked through the long mane, so similar to his own coloring. At the same time, he nosed curiously at her mane; there was something he'd been meaning to ask..
"Has your mane always been so fluffy, Selly? Even when you were a foal, I mean?"

"Heeey!" she gave a protest, tugging away from those nipping teeth. "I'm a delicate creature. You can't just gnaw on me like that." she adoped a tragic look, rubbing her wounded ear against him. "And what do you mean fluffy?! I'm sleek! Sleek!" she posed, and grinned. "And I don't know if I've always been like this. I'd assume I was fluffy as a foal, most are."
And weren't foals adorable? Her own Yue had gotten so big now she barely recognized her! And she knew that if Chenguang and Forrest were around, it would be a hard family reunion. She sighed, and then took off like a shot, aiming for the ledge! "WHEEEEE!" she squealed, and vanished over the edge.
Disappearing with a splash into the crystal water.

"So you think it's ok to gnaw on me as though I were an apple, but suddenly you're a 'delicate creature'? Don't make me laugh, Selly!"
But laugh he did, particularly in the face of Selene's vehement rebuttal of his 'fluffy' statement. The lady doth protest too much, obivously! "Sleek? You're sleek about as much as a raccoon is sleek, Selly...but it's still fluffy around the edges. Besides, what's wrong with fluffy? That means you'd be a good pillow!"
This last comment was yelled more than anything as Selene all at once took off running and dove into the water. That looked like fun, diving into the water and frolicking in the water...but for now, he'd play lifegaurd. Sauntering up to the edge of the lake, he looked into the mirrow-like surface of the water. "Careful, Selly, otherwise I'm gonna have to get all heroic and resuce you! And we both know that we'd be laughing so much we'd both drown, and that would be much too tragic." And yet he was grinning as he said so, so maybe not so much.

She floated to the surface, flopped on her side, belly filled with as much air as she could hold to keep her afloat. "I can't help what I am, Safi." she called up, one silver-gold eye peering at him for just a moment before the sun was too much. She rolled onto her belly and swam for the shore. "But one thing I am not is 'fluffy'.
She dragged herself onto the shore finally, and shook herself off, but her hair.... geez, took forever. As she did so, she pondered his lifeguard statement. "I think I'll stay in the shallow end today." she grinned. "I don't fully appreciate the thought of drowning." she eyed his wide grin. "Something about the tragedy of my short life, already so close to the full bloom of youth, being snipped because you put a stitch in my side, makes me sad."

"So, you can't help what you are, but you can help what you aren't?" Ah, it was amusing to watch Selly bristle, mock or no. She just reacted so darn well! "And deny it all you want, but you ARE fluffy."
Usually, at least. Safi was unable to contain the grin on his face as he watched Selene drag herself out of the water, her mane and tail plastered to her body and making her look a great deal smaller than she actually was. At the moment, sleek was more appropriate than fluffy...but somehow, he kep thinking 'drowned rat'. Though he doubted she'd appreciate that comparison!
So he wisely kept his mouth shut, at least on that topic. Strolling over to the soggy mare, Safi spread his wings and began to fan her with his wings to help speed the drying process. "And I'd hate to be responsible for causing your death, indeed I would. The last thing that I need is to have that weighing on my conscience, small as it can be sometimes. But now that I don't have to worry about YOU drowning..."
Grinning impishly, Safi suddenly turned and swooped up into the air; once he was several lengths above the lake, he tucked in his wings and dove down into the water with a mighty splash.

She gave a little cry as that silly, birdbrained stallion started batting at her with his wings... for a bit at least. What was he trying to do, make her all flu... errr.... yeah. But before any smart remarks could be made, in regards to any of his comments, he was in the air, and diving into the icy water.
Hehehehee.... She'd forgotten to warn him, hadn't she?
<3 Wonderful!
She settled herself in a warm ray of sunshine, and grinned out over the water. Sometimes, it was good to be a bit... forgetful.

BRRR! Safi had been expecting the water to be nippy, but this was like having the blood solidify clear in his veins. Bursting to the surface, Safi tossed back his mane in a Little Mermaid impersonation, then shook his head wildly, sending droplets of water flying. "Wow, that's a brisk swim, isn't it? I can understand why you got out though, Selly; with your little tiny mass it must have gone right through you!"
Grinning devilishly, Safi began to calmly paddle around in the frigid water. Now that he was in it, it really wasn't so bad...

She smiled at him, serenely. "And you're so full of hot air, that water must be close to boiling!" Her tone was cheerful, calm, and she rolled over in the grass, kicking her legs in the air and neighing like a filly. Finally she stood, mane rumpled, and started trying to groom herself back to the normal -sleek- state she was usually in.
Fluffy, indeed!
She snorted, and stretched herself out, moving closer to the water. "It isn't getting too hot in there, is it? You know that if you get overheated, you could pass out."

Safi merely grinned and continued to paddle around in the water. Full of hot air, was he? To think that Selly had taken the time to notice!
However, he did slow his paddling to mere floating, watching Selene with a grin. "Aww, do you miss me already, Selly? We've only been apart for mere minutes, but if the anguish in your soul is that prominant, well..." Golden eyes sparkling merrily, Safi suddenly bounced out of the water right up next to where Selene had stretched out...then shook himslef vigorously, water flying all over the place. "But your concern on my part is appreciated!"

She flung herself into the air with a squeal, but was not able to avoid being doused with cold water. As she went out over the lake, she gave a sharp little cry of genuine surprise and felt herself plummet into the cold depths. And as she floated back to the surface, she noticed... what was that? Light, from behind the rock there? And why hadn't she been more careful, like Feryal had told her to a few days ago?
She glared balefully at him as she again exited the water. shivering. The cold really did go straight through her. "Don't get too comfortable. I saw light, behind a rock under the waterfall. I think there may be something back there." she stretched her wings, heard them give an audible little crack in the abused joints. "And you, by the way, are a very, VERY bad stallion. I'll punish you later."

Safi had been expecting some sort of reaction from Selene when he shook out, but the one that he got was even better than he'd hoped. Still dripping with water, the stallion had collapsed in a heap on the shore after watching her hit the water, laughing hysterically. Ah, Selly was too good for him!
"Comfortable? Who's comfortable, I'm sure not comfortable! Just amused. You should have seen yourself, Selly, you looked like you'd stepped on a mouse!"
Still, he managed to get to his feet rather quickly at her threat. For all he knew, 'later' could mean moments later; the last thing he needed was to get stomped! "Aww, you know you couldn't punish me, Selly; you love me too much to hurt me!" Smiling, he lifted a wing to snuggle her, ignoring the fact that he was still pretty wet himself. She looked colder, after all.
But now... "What was that about a light?"
