Hush.

I'm going to try and convince Waffles to make a Writing Advice subforum, but first I should show her that it would work.

So, not to sound conceited, but I've spent the last ten years of my life studying classic and contemporary literature. Ask me anything about writing Prose (I need to brush up on my Poetry) and I will help you without fail.

I give great advice.
Um, try and not send me stories and ask me to proof them, if you're a friend I'll do it but only a few times, so make it count.

My qualifications.

I know a lot about writing.
Studied various forms of literatiure, been on newspaper at my school for four years, had a novel almost poublished (Random House sucks c**k and botched it all, but that's neither here nor there) and have been writing since I was about seven. This is an advice thread, got writer's block?
Ask for some advice.

Need an idea?
Ask for advice.

Need that last sentence of a story that you just can't formulate?
Ask for advice.

Yes, I will act as a thesaraus if need be but that's not what I'll specialize in.

Hopefully I will get enough examples to build a little webpage with qoutes and questions paired with answers, so yeah, this may be recorded.

What I specialize in.

Horror (any type)
Fantasy (don't laugh)
Romance (I've read more than a few in my days)
Satirical (Voltaire was a genius)
Philosophical (Sophocles all the way)

Special requests should be mentioned in this thread, with details sent through PM or email.

Wait so what should i ask you?...

oh and if this does go under way i'd like to lobby for the sci fi section. Not that im well versed in Sci Fi ( I do have a few Asimov books that i need to get around to reading ) but i do love science and thats about all you need if you ask me. After all, Im sure mister Asimov wouldn't have liked it if young authors began to template his style as opposed to comeing up with their own.

still im not sure what advice your offering... care to elaborate?

Unlike Zahmen, I haven't studied any literature.
Though I do talk with an author and understand words.
Zahmen and I are going to help members out.

Though like he said Not too much "Here can you proof this?"
But you can take into consideration, that I may be more lenient
then Zahmen when it comes to that.

So please. This is just to help those who have questions.
This thread benefits you and all the other members.
Put it to good use.

yes but what kind of questions?

Probably questions about writing... such as the following:

Any advice on how to go about describing something that you have never expirienced but is neccisary for the story. Not to sound corny or anything, but describing something like love (I suspect that I may have schizoid personality disorder which is where someone doesn't desire emotional attatchment, however less than one percent of the population is said to have it so I'm probably just a hypocondriac [sp?].) So yeah, not asking how someone would describe love specifically, just how you would describe something that you haven't personally expierienced.

Is that all? A description of love?

hmm im not sure your going to get a straight answer in that department. Love, like life, is- i suppose- what you make of it and more.

gennerally speaking of course.

but what else?

I didn't mean a description of love, I meant an answer on how to describe something that you haven't personally expirienced... like a better example would be "how do I describe getting shot without just saying 'searing pain' over and over again?" because most people (at least where I live) have never been shot. Or describing the feeling that an amputee gets when he looks at the stub that used to be his arm.

but your asking for life experiences not tips on writing...

I'm not asking for the life expiriences, just asking how to describe ones that you haven't had... though I see what you're getting at. So, basically the only real solution to being able to describe something you can't personally know about is to either ask someone who has or fake it yourself... that was my original thought, I was wondering if anyone had a different way of doing it, though now that I think about it, there probably isn't another way... well aside from going out and having those things done to you, though that's probably not recommended.

well i can only think of the saying: you can only imagine the ________

Im still not sure what your asking though...do you want to put that in words? And if so, isnt that basically like asking some one else to do the work for you?

is that the proper path towards understanding?

If you ask me there shouldn't be any sort of advice section, but rewards for good criticism. That way we can maintain clemency towards question placement, and still set up a system in which you might find a quick and easy answer towards your undoubtedly rudimentary question.

Basically what I'm asking is people's different methods for dealing with situations in their writing in which they need to describe something that they don't fully understand due to lack of expierience. I think an advice section would work, though I might have gotten the wrong idea by what was meant by advice; what might have been meant was to post excerpts from the writing that the advicee (is that what the person asking the questions would be called?) and asking how it could be better.

I will help!

I don't really know much about...well, literature in general, or at least lit history, but I'm good with grammar and rewrites and all of that stuff, and I'm good for the philisophical side of writing--how it relates to the writer, I mean.

And in any case, I have nothing to do, so I can edit stuff.

*shrug*

Consider it, Takkun and Zee?

Two should be pretty okay.
We are just here for advice.
Not so much as editing.

But It is Up to Zahmen anyways.
This is his Thread,
And concept of mind.

Isn't that why we post stories on here in the first place? I mean, it's for judgment isnt it?
