Raven's eyes glinted gleefully as she landed. She could fly with such ease now the past seemed like a fleeting dream that was best left forgotten.
The feathers fell over her hands again as her feet hit the ground. She made a face, pulling them back to put her fingers to use.
Nana was at home, several sprouting tears suggesting she stay there and not embark with the tykes. Rumkai, the butterfly, was not on Raven's shoulder. He was, in fact, investigating the small bag the Eden had brought along, questioning her constantly. Raven found him to be quite an annoyance.
"Kai, I've told you," she repeated, "it's for stuff we might find. You know? Pretty rocks... maybe a leaf..."
Rumkai fluttered a bit.
"... A teacup?" Raven snorted. "You're not too bright, you know?"

"Hm...OH! There it is!" Alex's narrowed eyes widened with excitement as he landed just moments after Raven had done so, touching down with only the slightest difficulty. He folded his wings neatly and trotted over toward Raven, a wide smile on his face.
"Hellooo!" He chirped, "I see Rumkai's with you! Hope he doesn't get lost, or anything, eh?"

"Hi!" Raven quirked a silly smile in greeting. "I wouldn't mind much if he did, though."
Rumkai flapped his wings as hard as he could to voice his displeasement. The constant wind almost blew him away, however, so he flopped back down and dug his legs into Raven's shirt.
The Eden giggled. "Soo... where are we off to first?"

"Hn...I remember hearing about a pond in the middle of the forest... It's kind of a ways, but it's not that bad, I swear!" He laughed a little, and turned towards the forest. "We could stop for lunch on the way, too!
Alex eyed Raven's bag, curious. "..what's that for, anyways? Did you bring food, or something?"

Raven, after a quick glance at Rumkai to see that he was situated, started after Alexander. "Oh, a few sandwitches.. But mostly just because Rumkai demanded something to bring home." Raven took a moment to balance on one of the rocks jutting out from the ground. "He's way too excited for a flutterboo.
"Anyway, it's just for stuff we might find. So we don't have to carry it, y'know?"

"Yeah, makes sense. They're probably be a lot of cool stuff in there, too! Rocks, berries and stuff...little bugs...to look at...to eat maybe..." He wearily eyed her, struggling not to burst out laughing. "Well, we don't have a whole lot of time, anyways! It'll probably be dark before you know it! We've got a big place to explore before the day's through."
He started off in the direction of the brush, then paused, turning around to wait for Raven. "Let's go!"

Raven kept a very straight face as she followed after the other. "Rumkai said he wanted a teacup."
The butterfly bobbed on her shoulder in agreement, trying his best to look as excited as he possibly could.
"But I'd prefer the bugs, myself. 'Specially worms. Oh!" Pointedly ignoring the sour remarks spouting off from Rumkai, she was reminded of something. "I almost forgot-- Your mom left these meat cookies from the night of the play." She picked out the wrapped package in her bag and showed it to Alex. "So we took them home, and... well... I figured you would enjoy them more than I would." Raven looked sheepish.

"Ohh! Thank you!" Alex replied gratiously, taking the package from her and opening it, savouring the general appearance of the cookies before snatching up one and stuffing it down his throat. "You want one?" He held back out the tousled wrapping toward her, a few stray crumbs spewing from his mouth. "I feel kinda bad eating something right in front of you. Uhm...I guess you could pick out the meat chunks, or something?"

Raven's eyes grew in size as she grinned, scratching theback of her head. "Oh, no... you go ahead.. I had a big breakfast."
Rumkai hastened over to the cookie unabashed, however. His eyesight had improved in the past few hours, and he could now identify what was what and where he was. Usually.
The butterfly took as large a chomp as any butterfly could.
Raven snorted at his yowl of a response.

Alex chuckled. "I'm guessing...he doesn't like it? Well, HAH then. That's what he gets after not asking if he could have some, first!" He wagged a finger at the butterfly, then wrapped the cookies up once more to the best of his abilities and stuffed the bundle into his pocket.
"Eh, I guess I can save them for later when we get to the pond."
He trudged along the makeshift trail, paying close attention to the constant change of his surroundings. "Ya know...we MIGHT find a few blue jays living around here...It would be interesting to see, don't you think?"

Raven glanced up at the trees' tallest branches, ignoring the spiteful Rumkai that scuttled up to hide behind Alexander's feather. "I've never seen one before... Maybe we'll see some falcons! Now that would be cool. Blue jays are boring."

"They are NOT boring! I mean, come on! You're...a blue jay, sorta! And you're anything BUT boring!" A playful grin spread across his features, followed by a small shrug. "I dunno about the falcons, though. Mom told me Aplomados only live in grasslands, and stuff like that. Besides, if we did find one, it'd probably eat all my cookies!
"...maybe like in that place we first flew in with the flutterboos and everything, remember? Maybe we could find some there..."
A strange bubbling sound coming from not too far away caught his attention suddenly, the unmistakable noise of water flowing in a small stream hinting that the pond had to be somewhere close. His pace quickened slightly, even as he noticed the insect population was becoming more and more dense with each step he took.

Raven furrowed her brow as she puzzled over what he had said. The insects weren't bothering her thanks to Rumkai, was was busily whirring around and chasing them off. She shooed him over to Alex's side.
".. I guess so... But, still. As birds, all they do is eat, sleep, and empty their bowels. C'mon. At least falcons... uh, have an interesting way of eating.
"Maybe we will," she grinned.
One of Raven's feet, unclad of course, sunk a good three inches. She blinked, lifting it up out of the squishy ground.
"... Cool! You never told me it was surrounded by a... swampish thing."

"Only because I didn't know..." His words ended abruptly as his own feet sank in the same manner, causing him to stare wide-eyed at the ground. "Uh...at least this means we're close, right?"
The falcon-Eden hiked his knees as he continued through the muddy marsh, the substance making an odd sucking sound each time he freed his feet from it. At last, a rather large body of water could be seen looming in the distance, surrounded by tall grasses and a few rocks scattered about here and there. The water looked crystal clear, even from a distance.
"This is it!" Alex chirped, bounding as fast as he possibly could to get to the pond.

Rumkai was having a hayday. He zipped round the strange branches that twisted into eachother, dove through bug clouds, and protected the two small children from blood-sucking creatures.
Raven blinked as some rather vulgar language was heard from the butterfly after another dive through a gathering of mosquitoes. "... Alex? How does a butterfly get a dirty mouth?"
She hopped over a fallen log, the ground suddenly evening out to meet the water. The Eden paused to look, and couldn't fight the smile back.
"Oh, wow... It's so pretty!"
