Hey all! I'm Jennifer. I suppose I should tell you a little about myself.

-I'm 24; my birthday is February 5th.
-May 5th is my 5th wedding anniversary.
-I was born and raised in Ft Worth, TX; I live in GA now.
-I have an Associates degree in veterinary medicine.
-I am a licensed EMT-Intermediate.
-My husband, Joe, is a firefighter, an EMT-I, a non-emergency driver, and the love of my life
-I have 3 dogs; 2 black lab/retriever mixes that are both solid black. They are about 6 months old. Oz has long hair, and Kibble has short hair. I also have a Jack Russell Terrier named Neil Dogstrong.
-I have 3 cats, even though I am allergic to them. Grey Buddy is a 6 year old DSH, who is grey, obviously. Icarus is an 8 month old black and white DSH, and Caine is an 8 month old DSH that is solid white. He can't see very well, either.
-I breed bettas (Siamese fighting fish) in my spare time. I have about 100-125 right now, all in separate jars.
-I live way out in the country, on 12 acres. Our driveway is half a mile long.
-I have 4 chickens. They are useless, because I could never bring myself to butcher them.
-I try to play the banjo, but I'm not very good.
-I have a 19 year old brother and a 6 year old sister. Their names are Matthew and Rhiannon.
-I like to read and draw when I have the time.
-I am trying to teach myself CGI art.
-I have 3 birds, 2 parakeets and a cockatiel.
-I like doing little woodworking projects.
-I am a parrothead.
-I don't watch TV very often.
-I was once an extra in an episode of Walker: Texas Ranger (though I really don't brag about that!)
-I tend to talk too much.

Whoa! That's awesome!
Here are my replies. :]

- Ooh! Going for a veternarian? My dog just went to the vet last night. It pained me so much to hear her whimper and cry beyond the nursery 'cause they had to do a blood test on her and cut off her hanging nail. Didn't particularily like the vet after for both of us. T___T No offense of course.
- Damnnnn. Firefighters in their uniforms are so hawt. @__@ <3
- Ooh! Doggies! I'm a dog lover. Especially for big dogs. <3
- I'm allergic to cats too!
- Are betas like widow spiders kinda? After mating, do they kill each other?
- Just your driveway's half a mile long?! x___x
- I'm scared of chickens. ;__;
- I'd love to see some of your drawings. =3
- I like doing small wood projects too!
- REALLY?!?!? Even though I have never seen that TV show before. That's awesome!
- Naw. Makes people more interesting. You're fine. :]

Last but not least,
WELCOME TO THE GUILD! :] <3

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back here. I kinda had a little "adventure". On Thursday morning, the 4th, I woke up at about 5:30 am with a bad stomachache. At first, I thought it was just indigestion or something, because the pain was in my upper abdomen and chest. So I took an alka-seltzer and ran a hot bath. 3 hours later, I was still in pain and I was getting pretty worried. Honestly, I was starting to think "heart attack" because of where the pain was.

So, I had my mother-in-law take mo to the hospital. They did some blood work, felt my stomach, did an ultrasound, then told me they were admitting me as an inpatient. The reason? I had gallstones and a severely infected gallbladder. They did surgery around noon on the 5th to remove my gallbladder. I finally got to come home on the 6th, after they drained all of the pus out (sounds gross, I know).

So, I'm still pretty sore, but I'm alive. What a way to start off the new year, huh?

Oh, and bettas are kind of like widow spiders, only worse. The males will fight to the death, no matter what. You could put two males in a lake, and they would seek each other out just to fight. The females are okay in sororities, but they need to be raised together for it to work well. If they are separated for a long time then put back together, they will fight. And the males and females will fight to the death as well. When I put them together to breed, I put them in a 10 gallon tank that has about 4 inches of water in it. The male is free swimming and the female is in a chimney glass. I have to watch them to see if they both show that they are ready to breed. If they are, I release the female into the water with the male, then watch them close for 48 hours. If they breed in that time, I remove the female as soon as they are done. If they don't breed, I pull them both out and try again later. But they can't be together for more than 48 hours because one will kill the other.

Yikes. Ouch. That must've been painful. >___o
Your new year's resolution? Not to get another infected gallbladder or gallstones. xD

Glad to see you're somewhat better. <3

Wow. That's a lot of work just to breed them. x___x
So is there any way for the males to be put in the same bowl together without them fighting? My brother has bettas and whenever he gets new ones, he always says something like, "Oh, don't worry! The lady at the petstore says that they won't fight." >>

So how many bettas do you have in total now?

Bettas CAN NOT be put in jars together. Period. They will kill each other. Males will kill each other, males and females will kill each other, and unsocialized females will kill each other.

The only way that 2 males could share a tank is if there was a divider siliconed in between them. They can't be allowed to contact each other.

And I have about 125 right now! biggrin

You're fairly young, aren't you? LOL! A parrothead is a fan of Jimmy Buffett. His writing, his music, and the lifestyle it represents. We parrotheads actually have "clubs" all over the world where we can get together and just discuss life in general. And we do community service stuff. Like, my chapter raised money over a 2 year period to have an indoor handicap-accessible playground built at a children's hospital. We did everything from a Caribbean bake sale to a sponsored beach monitoring during the sea turtle mating season.

Most parrotheads are in the "baby boomer" generation. I am the youngest in my chapter by 17 years! We're just a group of people who like to have fun and help others, drawn together by a common interest in music.
