Since it's so cold these days, sometimes I let my Champ jump under the covers with me, and let her go back to her kennel in the early morning.

My dad is convinced that this will give me some sort of disease, and threatens to kick Champ out of our home if I let her do this anymore.

But when I lock her out, she mews and whimpers and scratches the door something awful.

I don't think there's really any harm in letting her snuggle up wif me. I've been doing it for a while and I haven't ... died or anything.

Is my dad right? If he isn't, is there anything I can say to him that'll get him off my back?

My old Ashley dog used to sleep under the covers with everyone in the house. The only problem it created was that she took up a lot of space.

However, if you live in a state with flea problems, it's possible that your dog may get fleas and, by sleeping near you, you could get fleas as well (Yuck!)

The only problem I can see is that your dog might start assuming that she belongs in bed and won't sleep anywhere else, and there might be a bit of a power struggle going on there if you're not careful.

My miniature pinscher, Dietz, sleeps under the covers with me every night (well, sometimes he spends the night in my moms bed). He has never gotten me sick and I am allergic to dogs so I doubt that you will get sick. Sorry but I cant think of anything that you could tell your dad.

This shouldn't be a problem.

As long as you are telling her when to get on and get off, it will actually enforce that you are the alpha- YOU are telling her when she gets to lie on the soft cushy bed, and when you say off its over. She gets no control over it.

Your dad seems to have a problem with the "dirty dog" concept. Try bathing her at least once a week and see if that helps change his mind. :3

That's sad.

If you yhave to, don't let him sleep on your bed, but pet him and stuff to let him know your still his friend and he'll deal.

My Boston Terrier sleeps under the covers in my daughters bed. My lab mix (75lbs) sleeps on my bed for about an hour then moves to the floor. I don't think it harms anything - the dog hair is a pain though...

dogs couldn't give diseases like that. Because if they did you would have them just by living with your dog. Ive been letting my sweet dog angel sleep with me for the past 11 years and do i seem dead?

Haha, geez. I have gotten fleas from her from this sorta thing before. I guess that's why he's so angry at it.

And Champ knows when I want her on or off.

Dad's such a dolt. Oh well.

My dog Jake does the same thing. He'll sleep on top of the covers, under the covers, on my pillow... D: But I don't believe you could any sort of illness from it. =)

My Dogs sleep on my bed alot of the time, Ive got a double bed so theres plenty of room for all of us.
My dogs also have their own beds in my bedroom also for when I want the whole bed to myself. They know when to get off/out of my bed when I Tell them to.

You shouldnt get a illness from the dog unless theres somthing badly wrong with the dog. And if she has fleas or anything this is easily treated by frontline or a flea drop you can get from your local vets that you put on the back of her neck. 3nodding

Of course there is nothing wrong with it. I have been letting my dogs sleep in the bed with me for 18 years and I've always been in perfect health

If you don't have a problem with it, there shouldn't be a problem with I. I, personally, couldn't sleep with something moving around next to me every night (I'm like that) my dog sleeps on a pile of pillows right next to my bed. (my bed is a matress on the floor.)
