The small silver eyed snake wriggled within the foilage around him his heart racing, this was it! This was going to be it! Just a few more feet and he would be out of this horrible green mess and into the open world of the savannah, he would find his mother and brothers and sister, he would see the great blue again.

His wriggling became a race, Kifuno's bright yellow scales shimmered in the dull light of the jungle. His dream's crashed as he met the point he thought was open air, it was just a patch of open sky, just a place where the great blue poked into the great land of green.

"I WANT OUT!" he shrieked hastily looking around frantically. When he first came to this world it would have been easy to escape, all he had to do infact was turn around, but instead he started to head deeper into the jungle and he was unaware that he was heading in entirely the wrong direction, he was a baby when entering and now was quite the young man.

letting out a long grunting hiss he started toward the other line of trees, he was hesitant to climb any of them but a nagging voice in his head told him it would be a better vantage point. Taking a deep ragged breath he pressed his scales against the bark of a great tree, beginning his journey up.

A lone leopardess was napping in the very tree the golden snake chose to climb, unaware of any of the sounds that he made before and as he wriggled his way closer and closer to her. Mleli had calmed down, and gotten tired of being angry. The conversation with the lioness hadn't hurt or helped her mood, so she decided to try to force herself to be indifferent.

The petty side of the creature, though, did prevent her from returning to her old home. Instead, she was testing out this tree and was finding it to be quite livable so far. Perhaps things would get better now! She slept dreamlessly on, feeling content, at the very least.

Unaware of the napping leopardess Kifuno tried his best to climb, a very trying task when you did not know how to move properly or infact have claws. He constricted his body around the tree the best he could and tried to find a way to make his scales grasp properly but was having a very hard go about it. He was making his way up the large tree's trunk slowly and was soon reaching it's first branch.

"Whooo ever though of gooooing up a tree?" He drawled. His heart pounded with his efforts.

As he wriggled (Which was much easier now that he could make short stops at branches) he slithered right over Mleli's paw, thinking her to be a large tumorous thing growing from the bark.

Mleli twitched sleepily at the low sounds of an intruder in her tree, but made no great motion. She was pulled from her sleep just as the snake made his way over her paw- but she still stayed as still as she could manage. There seemed no immediate danger to this motion, and it soon passed, and the scent that followed it.

Her steel blue eyes snapped open, and a golden blurr quickly came into focus. It was too small to consider a threat, she decided, and lifted her head to get a better look.

"Looking for something?"

The large leopardess might as well have uttered, 'I will eat you now.' Kifuno froze in place, the tip of his tail still resting against her paw, she was lucky that he did not void his bladder right there he was struck with the idea that if he did that she would surely be mad and he forced his body to relax.

"I uhh...ssssorry..I wasss jussst umm..." if he had been mamilian he would have turned a bright red, but he was not his scales were the same golden yellow they had always been.

"I wasss looking for the open," to him this meant he was looking for home, but it could be something completely different to anyone else.

Mleli wasn't fully aware of the potential consequences of speaking up, but didn't seem to care. Instead she watched as the little snake froze and tried to apologize and explain his intrusion.

"Looking for the open?" she repeated, smirking slightly at his seeming inability to explain clearly, "What kind of open do you mean? There are some clearings, but none are truly open. Then there are those areas beyond the jungle.."

The golden snake's body went limp with relief as he realized she was going to eat him...well not yet anyways.

"My home, it isss in the P-p-pridelands," he thought of his mother and siblings, he rarely thought of his father. He was quite young when he was swept away by a thunderstorm and his childlike views were everything that consumed him, "I haved found many clearingssss...I am Kifuno, wh-wh-who are you? And why are you in my climbing tree?" a sick sounding snicker escaped him as he thought of it as his tree.

Mleli made no effort to hide a snort when the snake declared the Pridelands as his home. She'd never seen it for herself, but she had no doubt that it was a lions land- the word 'Pride' was in it's name after all.

"Pridelands, you say?" she scoffed, shaking her head, "A lion's land, by the sounds of it. No, you'd be better off here in the Jungle, Kifuno. My name is Mleli, and I'm afraid you are in my tree and not vice versa."

She did take into consideration that the snake might actually have prior claim to tree since she'd only just moved in, but she was content to claim it for herself.

"I umm...pleasssure to meet you Mleli," he gave a quick bob of his head and thought about what she said. Lions? They were large a furry, that was all he knew, "What are you? Are you not a lion?" He was very confused, the creature infront of him fit the criteria in his mind.

He had met maned wolves and snakes, but not lions or leopards...he wasn't actually sure what he was...odd little fellow.

"Hardly!" Mleli exclaimed with another snort, what a foolish little snake. Perhaps he had not had the pleasure of meeting a leopard yet. How lucky it was he came up this tree, if that were the case. "I am a leopard, which is by far better than a lion."

She didn't have to continue outwardly hating lions to continue believing herself to be superior to them! This was her compromise, she could settle for being better than them.

"Oh yesss...vassssstly ssssuperior!" he giggled looking up at her, "Do you mind if I stay in your tree for a bit? I was thinking maybe I ssshould give up on the idea I will ever sssee my large family again and taking resssidence in the jungle, sssound good?" he jabbed grouchily towards her. He really did just need someone to love himand be kind to him.

He turned slightly and rested his head on her paw awkwardly.

Mleli was quite pleased to here him agree with her, even if he obviously was a little unsure about what species was what. As long as he agreed, she was content to tolerate him. She considered his question for a moment, and was a bit surprised when he rested his head on her paw. It was a friendly gesture, and she couldn't help but recall her last friend turned out to be a liar.. or.. changed his mind or whatever he claimed it to be!

"I think you are far away from any good bit of clear land," she said stiffly, making a point of not sounding too agreeable to safeguard herself, "One so small would be travelling for a great deal of time." That was all she said, but her tone suggested it was almost an invitation to stay, or her own way of approving of the idea.

"I could alwaysssssssstay here, in MY tree," he chuckled and looked up again, the young snake was quite tired and his lids drooped. He would stay if she allowed, at least for some time, until he got his strength back up. But what do leopardesses eat? Snakes, bugs, dogs?
PostPosted: Thu Jan 04, 2007 12:28 pm

Mleli snorted at the tree comment, but not in her usual angry, bitter way. Instead of reacting harshly, she did something very odd and bumped the tired snakes head from her paw and settled back in to continue her nap. It was a combination playful-welcoming gesture, really, though she'd had little practice in such ways lately.

Kifuno blinked and then drifted off to sleep, what else could the tuckererd out little snake do? He dreamed easily and was content, unlike all the other times. He dreamed he was as large as Mleli and was able to fend off anything that came his way. A soft "ssss" sound escaped him each time he exhaled.
