How do you challenge an opponent? Do you PM them or what? Any guidance on my prediction would be most appreciated.

exactly what you had mentioned, just pm them.
You may have to go by a couple people in the peasant's ranks before you have someone online and willing to fight but once you reach Defender and higher it's rare that someone is inactive or refuses battle.
You may also consider just inviting a couple friends into the guild to battle with. In any case, here are a few possible opponents: "Lord Marshall Michael"; "T.CJester"; "rudemagician"; "Alistor_Strange".
You could also try challenging a couple of the 'fighter class' people, if you buy a scythe from the blacksmith then you'll be even matched with most of them....anyone but Rikuphi should be fine.
P.S. I already have a Q&A thread in the Coliseum open.

I don't really understand the Coliseum rules how do you calculate the amount of damage when you create a random number?

when you make a random number. and your opponent makes a random number the person with the higher number does damage.
if i do 10 and you do 15 i take 5 damage. it's a simple system. and you go by turns. on turn 1 if you do 5 and turn one i do 298 you take 293 damage. got it?
