It had been quite the while. The dark male was returning from a little hunt, a rabbit tightly gripped in its maw. At first he wandered away a lot but always found himself returning to the rock den of his female companion. His mind was a blur, nothing seemed to click for him but the female and what she had told him. He was a lion cursed into a body of a jackal, or as that was what he was told. The longer he had spent time with Kaede, Goma noticed that she was slowly growing bigger, her belly mainly. At first he had thought it was from over eating so he hunted less and less.
Now that he thought about it, Kaede had been acting stranger and stranger lately. She could not hunt anymore or very much get around without him worrying about her. Was she ill or something? What had happened to him those moons ago? Did the Gods not approve of his 'good deed'? Why did he and her not return to their feline forms? Everything was so confusing....
The green-eyed jackal peeked into the den's entrance, food in maw.
"Kaede, I'm back."
He spoke softly as he entered.

Kaede was curled up tightly (as tight as she could with her belly being so big) and had her eyes closed. She was breathing deeply, she felt a bit better today, though her stomach ached so much It felt as if she had eaten something still alive, and it was trying to kick its way out of her. It hurt, she couldn't deny that, but she wanted it to stop. She didn't want Goma to be worried over her.
As she heard his voice she opened her eyes, green hues settling on the darker form of Goma, her love, her mate. Her tail began to wag and she stood up, wobbled because of the extra weight, and padded over to him slowly. Kaede smiled and nuzzled her cheek and gave him a soft lick on his nose and looked towards the bunny and smiled.
"You've overdone yourself again Goma, it looks lovely," the sun was protruding through teh den entrance, and she nudged his shoulder to come inside. "It's hot outside, mustn't get overheated.."
Perhaps thats what was wrong with her, heat exhaustion or something.

Goma gave a soft smil and nodded. He carefully moved inside more concerned for her comfort now than his own. Ever since she had gotten bigger, she was all that was on his mind. Was she doing well? Is she hurting? Should she be standing? Why is she so tired so often? Why was she getting bigger? It seemed his whole world revolved around her now. It was obvious that something before he lost his memory had done this to her. But what?
After laying down the rabbit, he looked up to her with his little red fuzz moving with every movement. His eyes grew soft to the growing darkness.
"Kaede, come here, don't overwork yourself. If you want, I could get more for you."
He motioned a paw to her, beckoning her over to him. He wanted her to lie down and possibly not get up until she was better.
"You know, I once took down an entire herd of zebra before. No 'overheating' will get the better of me. Come, come. Eat, you need your strength."

Kaede smiled and her eyes glinted with happiness she felt surge through her body, then another strange 'pang' if you could call it a pang, from her tummy towards the outside again. But Goma had taken down a whole herd of zebra? Wow, she was beyond impressed. Perhaps someday they could go hunt zebra together then.
She tilted her head at the bunny, poked at it with her nose, then began to chew away at it. But only after a few bites she pulled back, and curled up next to Goma. Her stomach felt funny, "I'm sorry..." she soft softly, burying her face against his shoulder. She felt horrible she couldn't eat a lot without feeling icky.
"My stomach it just..." she closed her eyes and winced somewhat, that one hurt. "Its like, kicking at me, as if I ate something still alive, there, you can feel it there..." kaede said placing her paw on her tummy, then letting it fall to the ground.
It really confused her.

Maybe telling her about him hunting zebra was not wise. After all, he could not remember anything like that. The only things he could remember were the strange images of he and many others like him in a sandy place and the time he had spent since meeting Kaede. She was such a pure and happy spirit and here she is in such pain. What could have triggered such a strange situation?
"No worries, Kaede. It is fine."
He reached down and slowly ate at the leftovers but soon felt like he too could not stomach it much as well. Maybe it was just the rabbit. He turned back to the female who was buried into his shoulder. What is this feeling she was having? Maybe she ate a live rabbit...or maybe she had lots of bugs and they are still....on second thought...nevermind.
Goma slowly passed his paw softly over her side, precious, soft fur passing between his digits as his paw moved down to her belly. For some strange reason he did not feel uncomfortable touching her in such a place. Wonder why? His paw rested there for a time. His dark furred paw grew increasingly warm, it made him smile and murred. Nuzzling back,
"Oh, Kaede, it's...so warm."

Kaede smiled and giggled against his shoulder. His paw tickled, but his paw was so warm, so soft, it made her stomach feel better. Though she still thought she was fat. She would have to get rid of it so she could be thin for him again. Surely he would like that better. Then perhaps she could walk straight without wobbling.
It moved again and she breathed deep. Kicking out towards his paw. She was quiet for a moment, then she opened her eyes wide.
What if?!
What if what Goma had proposed before was true? What if now, what if now she was pregnant! And what happened before was heat exhaustion! She wriggled and curled against him more, she was worried. "Goma...what if I am...what if now I am pregnant? Do you think...that I am Goma?"

Quickly drawing his paw away, he looked at her from sudden movements and then curling against him. Just before she moved, something had hit against his paw and it wasn't from what he could see. He looked at his paw as if wondering if something had marked him or maybe something had bitten him. It felt strange, weak and almost unnoticeable but it felt strange.
Looking back at her, he smiled a bit as if to comfort her seeing as right now that is all he could do.
"Maybe you are. It's something you did right? Is that wrong? I am sure the father will be very happy and I will be too. I'll even help raise them with you. I got nowhere else to go. By the looks of it, they are coming soon."
Was that at all helpful? He had no idea who the father was, if Kaede had mentioned it, he may not have heard. But whomever it was, he was glad Kaede would be happy at the least. He would not spending more time with the female. So far, she showed him so much love and compassion it was just too hard to pull from her.
"To answer you question though, I would guess that you are. I was just kicked."

"No...nothings wrong just ...I'm just nervous..." She was nervous about it all. She hadn't really gotten the talk, didn't really know how it went, the process of giving birth. Kaede was heavy, which meant more then one pup, unless it was a cub, being born as it should be as a lion. No matter, her children would always be lions like her.
She wondered what her mother and father would think of this.
She went on to continue but stopped...Goma...he...he didn't remember? She folded her ears back, pressed her face against his shoulder. He couldn't remember! Why had the gods taken that from him too? Why did they hurt him so bad? She started to cry softly, several stray tears leaking from her eyes, "It's you..." she said softly, trying to keep herself from sobbing.
"You're the father Goma..."
Unless you got pregnant some other way, like poking something, that case, a rock outside was.

His entire body seemed to jump in surprise, into life. His ears perked, eyes wide, maw ajar. What did she say? He could not possibly he the father!
"WHAT!? HOW!? How does one even become a father!? How do you know it is me and not that...." he looks around and looks outside to see if there is anything passing. None. Falling onto a rock he points. "that isn't the father!?"

Kaede shuffled back a bit after he did, ears pressed back against her her, her eyes filled with tears. He didn't remember, was he rejecting her now? He thought the rock was the father! How could a rock be a father of living things when it was not alive? She whimpered softly and curled up, hide her face by draping her tail in front of her eyes.
He didn't...he didn't want her anymore...
He didn't love her...
She cried and sobbed under her tail, making it wet. This was going horribly.

Goma panted and looked at her.
"Kaede, tell me. Are you absolutely, 100% sure that I am the father? What makes you sure that I am. I need to know. You know I cannot remember. Please, Kaede, you got to tell me. What happened."
His body instinctively pulled to her's as his paw placed onto her shoulders. His eyes were pleading for answers, right now....that was all the wanted. And her.

Kaede didn't look up when she felt his paws on her shoulders. She just whimpered louder, curled up tighter, hid her face behind her tail. He couldn't remember! He hated he and probably didn't want her. Why was life so cruel? "It was the thing I did to help you..." she spoke, her voice was muffled from her tail being against her maw. "To help you be restored to your original state...I never did that with anyone else...you said it would help you..." she started crying again and was silent.
She hated life so much right now, she wanted to chew at her stomach when she felt something kick again.

He let out a breath and looked out, left for a moment to kick the rock to release some frustration and returned to her side. Nuzzling her back, he laid down beside her.. It was a surprise he was not ready for. Sure, he would love to spend a lot of time with her, but as mates? Parents? He could not possibly handle that. Looking over to her crying. At least not alone.
Leaning close he place a paw on her side again, his head on her shoulder.
"Kaede, I'm sorry for whatever I did to you...This did not help me as much as knowing you. I don't care what the Gods take from me, all I want to keep is you beside me. At the very least."
He murred and tested her trust for him. He slowly tried slide his paw down her side to where it once was. He loved her in truth, he had never said it assuming she felt the same for him. Well, she had said it numberous of times but she could assume he did too, right? He whispered softly to her.
"Sorry..."

Kaede sniffled and leaned against him a bit more, he was so warn, a slight smile came to her maw, though the fur under her eyes were wet and tear streaked. "It's not your fault...they made you forget..." she wished they hadn't. It was...a strange experience for her, but Goma seemed so happy she said she would help him, even in that sort of way. She was glad he wanted her at his side, if he didn't...she would die, she knew she would.
She closed her eyes, she was tired, but something kicked out again and she sighed. She would never get any sleep with them in her stomach. "We should...visit my father sometime...you'd like him..." she said with a yawn. She licked her maw and rested her head under his and closed her eyes, she was tired, she need to sleep and dream.

He nodded softly and nuzzled against her. He knew the Gods had taken a lot from him, his form, his pride, and his memory. He was now a jackal and to-be father. His memory was a blur, but what he knew was true because Kaede had told him. She had never lied to him, no not at all. He could not possibly refuse her, she was all he had no. He knew no one else, everything was a complete enigma to the male.
"Of course, I will take you to visit him when you feel you are ready to go..."
He whispered softly as he moved himself closer to her, murring softly trying to calm her the best he could. His paw slide down to her belly again feeling the pups bump against his paw. She was carrying life that he had sowed. This was his fault. It was his fault that she was in pain and he had no idea what to do to help her but being there for her.
Licking her head softly, he rested his head beside hers. His eyes slowly closing, his vision blurring. The last sight he saw were of Kaede's wonderful eyes until darkness.
....I'm a father...
