After his failed attempt at chasing out that idiotic fox, Isaac ended up spending only one night back in his old cave. For the first time in a while, his flashback dreams had returned, and so he'd come to the conclusion that the location was to blame. With a heavy sigh it was that Isaac supposed it would be best to return to the pack, and his mate. He hadn't intended on staying long in the first place, but he was just beginning to have some fun..

The navy wolf had spent the next day roaming around, basking in once-forgotten memories that his mind sponged up from the area. Most of them envoked a smug grin, amased at the dumb luck that he perceived as his great intellect and skill.
The epic battle with Lera was, of course, something he didn't need reminding of, but he was blessed with grim flashbacks of that night anyway as he wandered past the area where it had taken place. He begrudged the raw power the other Seer had shown, but Isaac still maintained that he was more skillful. And he Would prove it one day.

It was on this note, as the sun went out, that Isaac came across Aboki's cave. At the time, he thought nothing of it, not even realising it was anything more than a jumble of rocks. That was until he picked up a strong lifeforce behind those rocks. Even at this point it really didn't interest him much, figuring it was just a cave with some creature that he didn't particularly want to meet lurking about inside.
Still, as he bummed about a little way off from the habitat, more information about the creature leaked it's way into his head and he found himself becoming more and more intrigued, as if realising the crappy-looking book he'd started was actually pretty damn good.

This wolf was unlike any Isaac had met. He was only happy when alone, and so had become, in essence a hermit. Aboki, the wolf was called, named by his mother. 'Good friend', apparently.
Isaac scoffed. To who? The wolf had no friends, never had. And he'd never wanted any either. He'd left his pack when he was a pup, simply slipping off unnoticed.
In some ways he reminded Isaac of himself. Except, while Isaac did love his solitude, he still thrived on contact with other living creatures as his source of entertainment. Afterall, what good would mind powers like his be if yours was the only mind for miles?

What was most intriguing to Isaac though was how the loner would often speak to himself, and.. even while Aboki spoke out loud, the Seer could pick up these ramblings without being within hearing distance too, as if the hermit was habitually more comfortable speaking in his own mind than to the world.

As Isaac sat in the darkness, the rusty cogs of his brain ticked slowly and a grin formed on his muzzle once more.

Aboki.. his voice, a purr, would echo through the other wolf's head.

((What is he plotting...? D: ))

Aboki's sleep had grown fitful almost immediately after Isaac had drawn near his dwelling. The filtered breezes of the outdoors carried barely-perceptible wisps of the other wolf's scent on them, which weren't quite enough to wake him, but more than enough to alert his subconscious that there was someone there. There had not been anyone there in a very long time.

His lips twitched as though trying to snarl and he exhaled a whine, shifting onto his side. It was not until Isaac's voice resounded through the cage of his skull that the lanky male's yellow eyes snapped open. For a moment he simply laid on the soft sand of his cranny's floor, not daring to move, barely daring to breathe.

Whoever had spoken had sounded as though they were standing directly over him, yet he could see and smell no one in the darkness, save for the same faraway scent of another that had bothered his rest. The fact alone that the stranger had known his name sent a cold shock of dread through him as visions of one of his former packmates having finally located him filtered through his head. What would they do to him? Was he capable of fending them off? A minute passed...two....

At length, he tentatively sat up, tail stiffly outward and hackles bristled as he scanned the cramped space of the surrounding cave once more in case he'd missed anyone or anything.

"Who's there?" he demanded into the darkness, his own voice seeming rather large to him in the small space. Instantly, he felt foolish. Jumping at shadows....talking to himself, now. Perhaps that rabbit he'd eaten yesterday HAD been mad after all. Venting a great sigh, he sank back to his belly and snorted, resting his head on his forepaws again. Enough of this nonsense, he wasn't a cub anymore.

((DundunDUUUUN! :O *eager to see what Isaac is plotting as well*))

Unhelpfully, Isaac's presence seemed to bring an instinctive wave of unease to a lot of wolves. And Isaac could sense it in them. 'Well, there's no need for that', would be his reaction, although oftentimes there certainly was.

Feeling the discomfort in this wolf, most likely because he'd been alienated from others of his species for so long, Isaac shuffled backwards a bit. Still not particularly wanting to come face to face with the loner, but that could be dealt with easy enough should he become suspicious of the wolf lurking about outside his cave.

No one's there, Aboki. You're here. You've been alone with yourself all this time, the subconscious part of you that had only silently observed your life has finally spoken up. I am that part of you. The voice paused. ..Hi.

Keeping things still somewhat cryptic for now, Isaac's tongue hung from his maw as he basked in his own genius. Lera would never have thought up something like this, oh no. He'd show her..

((*skips off to catch ze bus* Good thing we guilded it. Didn't have nearly as much time on as i thought i would this morning. X) ))

The snake-marked wolf's ears flattened against his head as he gave a long calculating look at the long length of passage that led outside. He would hear it if whoever it was attempted to come in. Even with this strange voice in his head....this voice that made his temples buzz as though they had been filled with angry bees....he would hear the padding of paws, no matter how light.

....and then what, he wondered? The tunnel was too narrow to give him any advantage other than surprise. He stood just as good of a chance at jaws meeting his throat as the stranger did.

Rising to his feet again, his body hunkered low to the floor, Aboki began to pace the small sandy cave, barely having room for three steps in either direction.

"Part of me." he repeated skeptically, not returning the greeting. "Part of me, yet you carry your own scent?" The scent, of course, told him nothing except that there was, indeed, another wolf nearby. As he could draw nothing incriminating from it such as name, rank, or even gender, it was a feeble accusation at best. But, he would at least have this stranger know that he hadn't cut his milk teeth yesterday.

Subconscious...feh.

His pacing quickened just a bit as he awaited a reply...or better yet, for the intruder to lose interest in him and leave. Surely there were more interesting things to invest one's time in than speaking to someone who didn't wish to be spoken to...

((Yup! Don't have to worry about saving the logs in the guild XD Poor Aboki XD "O NOES THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY!"))

Hmm.. not as gullable as he'd hoped, eh? Well, a challenge just made it all the more exciting.
Isaac pondered a moment. He had to disassociate the voice in Aboki's head from the strange wolf outside his cave, or the wolf would never trust him..

Don't be so quick to accuse, my friend. The brain is more complicated than you'd imagine, the voice stated smoothly.
But if you're thinking of that wolf out there -yes, i smell what you smell, see what you see- lets go have a looksie shall we? Afterall, if you want to stay undisturbed, you need to be able to defend against intruders..

The navy wolf, almost as lankily built as the hermit, had begun moving back towards the cave slowly, the limp in his gait probably audiable from his steps as he came closer. He held his head low and his tail tucked, sniffing about curiously near the entrance of Aboki's home.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 24, 2005 6:36 am

At the sound of padded feet drawing nearer, Aboki froze as his ears left their pinned back state to perk alertly. Next, he heard the faint, barely-audible snuffle of a nose busily working and his lip trembled, revealing the point of his canines.

He declined to give the voice in his head a response to its latest banter as he still wasn't sold on the idea that it was a projection of his own mind. He'd never had much of an imagination and the only time his senses played tricks on him was when he'd fallen ill. And he certainly didn't -feel- ill at the moment.

That meant it had to be something else, then...but what was it that spoke directly into your head if not your own mind?

What if this was an attempt to draw him out? What if whoever the voice belonged to meant to drive him into harm's way for whatever reason it had? A futile whine of confused frustration escaped his throat. Go? Stay? Did it matter? It sounded as though the intruder intended him to meet it one way or another.

The thought of laying eyes on someone after he'd carefully avoided them all for so long made his stomach turn a sour flip within him, but it appeared that his hand was to be forced.

A low resonant growl of warning eminated from Aboki's throat, echoing down the passage at Isaac as the acoustics made it sound bigger than it really was. His gait stiff and fur bristling as he tried to make himself appear as dominant as was possible, Aboki slowly made his way out of the crevice. He came into view very much like a snake emerging from a hole in the ground...one feature at a time, beginning with the glint of his fangs and eyes.

Just because you're not speaking doesn't mean i don't hear what you're thinking. the voice gloated.
Whatever you believe me to be, you can't ignore me or chase me away like every other being that's disrupted your solitude. It then fell silent, awaiting a reaction from Aboki to the strange situation he'd found himself in.

At the sight of the emerging snake-wolf, Isaac lifted his head quite suddenly, peering at him with wide eyes and apparent fear - very much deer in headlights mode.
Before his Seer potential had developed, Isaac seemed destined for the rank of Omega had he joined a pack at the time, and as a result, he did a pretty good job of acting like one. In fact, Aboki's unexpectedly menacing appearance Had startled him somewhat.
The lame wolf lowered his head apologetically once more. Only a trace of a whine slipping from his throat as he stumbled backwards slightly, paws scrambling for stability on the stoney ground.

The voice in Aboki's head seemed as composed as ever. Go on.. Kick his pathetic a** out of here.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 24, 2005 8:42 am

Aboki's threatening countenance was broken momentarily when he tossed his head once, as though trying to shake a burr loose from his ear when the voice spoke again. He didn't like this...not at all. His mind was his own sanctum and he hated the idea of something, be it his own subconscious or not, able to have free commentary and influence over what he did and thought.

It was not lost on him the way that Isaac favored one of his legs when he moved, or that the other male was nearly as gaunt as he was. His posture was obviously apologetic....just a lame wanderer who'd ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time, or so it would appear. Antisocial he may have been, but Aboki had never fancied himself to be a cruel sort. Even now when both his physical and mental territory was being violated, he couldn't bring himself to attack the stranger.

Nonetheless, he WAS growing increasingly angry with his current situation, and decided that if he couldn't quell the voice by ignoring it, he could at least deliberately disobey it in hopes that it might become overpowered by his own will and vanish.

Growling again, Aboki's yellow eyes narrowed to slits as he regarded Isaac for a long moment.

"You are not welcome here. Leave." he rumbled. There was no need for this to be any more difficult than it needed to unless the intruder made it so.

Reverse psychology at it's best. Isaac was inwardly smug at the other wolf's predictablity.

The intruder backed up and bowed his head respectfully, thankful he Hadn't received an a**-kicking.
"I'm gone. Apologies." He spoke quietly, in a half-whine which made his voice unrecognizable from the one which would purr antagonizingly in Aboki's ear as Isaac disappeared through the foliage.

Ah, such a Nice boy we are.. Unfortunately, i'm still going nowhere fast. You know what's even more boring than speaking to you while stuck in this dismal place?
Not speaking to while still stuck in this dismal place.
The voice became a short cackle. Apparently Aboki's 'darker side' didn't appreciate the view like he did. You need to get out more. Live a little. Then maybe i'll be happy just watching silently once more.

A bit of blackmail never hurt anyone. And of course, for Isaac, Aboki getting out more and living a little meant him toying around with wolves he couldn't in his own skin.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 24, 2005 3:40 pm

Aboki waited until he was sure that the stranger was gone before sagging heavily in relief. He had so heavily anticipated a confrontation, he could practically taste the coppery tang of blood and feel the deep-seated throb of phantom lacerations.

As the voice spoke once more, his look of relief turned to a scowl of contempt. He tossed his head again in another futile attempt to rid himself of the unwelcome noise as he scanned the immediate area to ensure that the intruder had, in fact, been by himself.

"Live a little..." mocked in imitation of the voice's tone, not breaking stride or pausing in his actions. By now, he'd become well-accustomed to talking to himself while doing other things. It was almost second-nature to him anymore. "And by that you mean...?"

Funny...his own mind speaking to him and even HE didn't know what it wanted. Now that the threat of the stranger was gone, Aboki found himself a shade more open to suggestion and reason...enough, at least, to grok the idea that the mind was a strange thing that was capable of fashioning all sorts of outlandish things. HAD his brain grown so weary of solitude that it had quietly fashioned something to interact with?

Grudgingly, he supposed it could be possible...considering he was quickly running out of other options, anyway. As he'd always been a creature of adaptation in the face of diversity, he even caught himself already on his way to accepting this answer as truth.

Such a wuss. The voice complained bluntly. A good scrap every so often would do you some good. And you know, you're just going to give yourself a headache if you keep doing that. It stated smugly, referring to Aboki's thrashing of his head.

I mean.. going out and doing whatever your heart desires on the spur of the moment. Whatever you think could be entertaining, you know? Maybe make an attempt at being sociable for once. If not.. Knock a pup into the river, eat a whole carcass by yourself, SING. I don't Care as long as you're not sitting here moping. Personally.. I'd suggest the pup in the river thing, i hear that's always a great laugh. A slight chuckle invaded Aboki's mind.

Heading back through the bushes towards his old cave with the intention of staying just one more night, Isaac couldn't help but grin to himself as his voice's unwilling host finally seemed to accept what he'd said. He could see his plans actually working, and, they weren't even all that egocentric. Perhaps Aboki might even end up having a bit of fun too.
Isaac felt he was putting Lewain's teachings to such devious and ingenious use. What's more, without any need for the battered excuse for a body that carried around his brilliant mind!
PostPosted: Sat Jun 25, 2005 6:15 am

The snake-marked male screwed up his nose in distaste at the mention of being sociable. And then again at the mention of singing. Knocking a pup into the river...? His mind turned back to the rabbit that had narrowly eluded being his dinner just a few nights prior by falling into the brook and being swept away.

And there was no telling who any of the pups belonged to, either. The last thing he needed was to punt the whelp of an alpha in high-standing into a watery grave. He preferred to simply not exist to the neighboring packs rather than have them out crying for his head.

He was not a thrillseeker...not by any stretch of the term. But likewise, he wanted his mind to be his own again. "If I do..." he began, turning to pad back into the sandy passage of his crevice, hoping that the voice would have the blasted decency to silence long enough for him to sleep. "....if I do, what then? Will you leave?"

Clearly he had no intention to act immediately on any of the suggestions he'd just been fed. Perhaps after he'd rested...but that would depend on the answer given.

Back in his cave, Isaac lay on his back pondering Aboki's words and thoughts, taking a moment before answering.

Well, i'll never leave. I'll always be here, but i might be content to leave you in peace again if you keep me satisfied. Punting one pup into the river just won't cut it though, m'afraid. The voice said with mock-sympathy.
Though.. I could tell you who they belong to, among other things. It gloated once more. Although that is all it would divulge for now, abruptly allowing Aboki his silence.

Deep within the stoney darkness, Isaac also took this opportunity to sleep. He'd give an exaggerated stretch, yawning widely and flopping over onto his side, out within minutes. Much long-distance mindspeaking appeared to take a lot out of him. He'd scavenge something to eat in the morning.

((Congrats on Choma, by the way! :O ))

When he reached the sanctum of his cave once more, Aboki sprawled in the warm sand without further ado, not answering the voice's last statement. That was the way the game was to be played then, was it...?

When the voice seemed to have nothing else to say, he allowed his eyes to close and curled up tightly. With the way his heart was galloping and his temples still throbbed, he felt he may never sleep again, but he felt himself taken by slumber almost immediately and gave himself to it gladly. At least whatever happened while he was sleeping, he could pass off as a dream instead of trying desperately to filter out what was real and what wasn't.

And when he awoke...well...they would see, wouldn't they?

((EE! Thank you! ^0^ She's going to be so much fun to play off of Aboki))
