I thought that I should make this, because it kinda fits in with the scary stuff.

Owls

If an owl looks in your window or if you seeing one in the daylight bad luck and death will bestow you.

Sparrows

Sparrows are thought to carry the souls of the dead and it is believed to bring bad luck if you kill one.

Myths and Folklore

If the flame of a candle flickers and then turns blue, there's a spirit in the room.

If a bird flies through your house, it indicates important news. If it can't get out, the news will be death.

If you feel a chill up your spine, someone is walking on your future grave.

A person born on Halloween will have the gift of communicating with the dead.

A bat in the house is a sign of death.

If a bird flies towards you, bad fortune is imminent.

If your palm itches, you will soon receive money. If you itch it, your money will never come.

Crows are viewed as a bad omen, often foretelling death. If they caw, death is very near.

Many Romans wore lucky charms and amulets to avert the "evil eye."

If a person experiences great horror, their hair turns white.

A hat on a bed will bring bad luck.

Eat an apple on Christmas Eve for good health the next year.

The superstition of knocking on wood for good luck originates from pagan beliefs in regards to trees.

My mom is really big on the hat on the bed one. She's told me that since I was really young. I haven't really put hats on a bed since... mostly out of habit. That and the palm-itching one.

I also heard this one superstition where if you go to bed from one side of the bed (the left or right side), then you have to get up from that same side, or else you'll have a bad day... or something like that. I don't quite remember. But for a while, I tried doing that. O_o

That must be where the saying 'He/she must of woke up on the wrong side of the bed today' came from.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too. XD

A lot of my friends have a queer little superstition where, if they drop their gloves, they have to get someone else to pick them up, or else they'll get bad luck.

I've always enjoyed the 'finding a penny gives you good luck' superstition, though I can't really think of others I follow or have heard of. XD

There have been times where I've purposely dropped a penny or two to see if anybody would pick them up. XD

Oh, I remember the superstition, "Don't step on a crack or you'll break your mother's back," if that counts.

I actually first heard of that from the movie The Land Before Time. O_o

I know why walking under a ladder is considered bad luck!

Triangles were often thought to keep away evil or something, and sense a aldder makes a triangle with the floor by walking under it you are 'breaking the triangle' with the floor.

My mom's big on the knocking on wood.

My dad is big about poles. If you and a friend are walking, and you both go opposite ways around a pole in your path, if you don't say bread and butter, that friendship will soon end.

I find superstitions humerous, and hey, no proof that they're not real.

I've heard that one! Yeah, and for some reason, I practice that one to this day. gonk

ACTUALLY...

Walking under ladders is thought to be bad luck because they used to use ladders as a sort of makeshift gallows. So people would be hung under tall ladders and it was thought bad luck to walk in the space that so many people had died in.

I do too, out of habit, and out of "Why take the chance?" I guess.

My friends always ask me what I just whispered to myself. rolleyes

Meh, it's probably just different cultures having different reasons for not doing the same thing ^_^
