Asi yawned as he woke slowly from a deep sleep. Or maybe it was an exhausted sleep, he hadn't been able to in days. He dragged himself slowly from his den with a small sigh. He was getting a little better, but still he spent his days dreading the next and feeling sad that he hadn't died instead of his wonderful mate. He was worried about the three cubs she'd left behind... and actually all of the cubs in the pride. How was he supposed to take care of it?
He was ready to turn over the throne, though.

White-tipped black forepaws dangled lazily from a rock. The owner, a dark lioness accented by gray, white, and silver markings, watched the world through weary green eyes. Time was starting to have its pull on her, and the lioness knew it. It wasn't age that was doing her in, it was her body itself. Scarred and partially broken, the once vibrant female was now a shadow. And thus, the shadow of the former lioness watched as the king of the lands left his den, silver-ended tail flicking just slightly.

He was heading for the watering holes, thirsty and thinking of nothing else to do. The three cubs Ari had bore were tucked away safe in the den. His nostrils flared as he caught Ishara's scen on the wind, and his gaze slowly moved until it met her own. He gave no sign of reccognition beyond that, just kept heading for the watering hole. Why was she so close to his and... well his den?

It wasn't so much that she knew where she was, it was just a convenient place to lay. The warm stone under her warmed her belly, while the sun above warmed her back. She maintained eye contact before she slowly rose up, feeling one of her legs groan from it. Limping slightly, she moved down the hill and to the water before she could stand no more, collapsing beneath a tree. She'd gotten the message of her being near the den from the look and the scent that had shifted to her spot. Rolling slightly, she reveled in the shade, not having realised how warm she'd gotten.

Asi took big gulps of water, staring at nothing as he did. Finally he decided to go talk to Ishara, and began to make his way toward the rock. He stopped and looked confused. "Eh..." His eyes floated around the land, finally spotting Ishara under a tree. He made his way to it. "Aye thurr Ish.." He said slowly, lazily.

Flicking a gray ear, the lioness rolled over and looked up. A slight smile graced her maw, mind momentarily remembering days long ago when she'd flirted playfully with the lion before her. But those days were gone, and she wasn't as flirtatious as she used to be. Adult children and now juvenile children had stripped her of it. It was not something she needed in life any longer. "Hello, Asi," she replied. The absence of Ari would not change this lack of flirt.

He sighed deeply and after a moment sat down beside her, watching his lands as they sat that. "'ow yeh been feelin' lately?" Small talk was good... well, seeing as he could still make little bits of conversation.
He sighed and looked over to her. "How is... how are your cubs?" He said finally.

The lioness stretched a bit, cringing as her leg twinged. "I've been feeling a bit tired... Worn..." She glanced at the scars that riddled her body and limbs. "I suppose these are catching up on me..." Ears flicked towards the male as she looked back up at him. "They grow, they learn... They prosper." A sigh escaped. Her first litter had grown to adulthood before she'd saught to have another. Would these be the same?

He smiled at her sadly. "I do think tha' jus' be a sign o' growin' old." He teased her, winking. Ah, being with an old friend was actually uplifting his spirits, it was nice. He nodded at her words of her children, thinking of his own. All grown now.

A sigh escaped, "True..." She looked out to the horizon, watching prey beasts wander here and there. "Once they grow, they could easily leave... I'll miss them... I miss the first five, but..." She shook her head. "They probably didn't bat an eye. These three... At least two have hope of sticking around." True, Tota and Sairin seemed the most likely of her cubs to not wander away. Tota appeared dependant upon her, while Sairin... He acted so brave. "I hope at least Sairin sticks around. All prides need good tough males, no matter how many they might already have."

Asi nodded in agreeance. "Aye... bu' wha'er paths they be choosin' will prol'y be goo'uns, so bes' no worry." He grinned at her again, though it was a little fake. He lied down slowly, eyes half shutting.

The lioness sighed, looking over the water. "I suppose you're right... I'm still going to miss them if they leave, though." Letting out a lazy yawn, Ishara fought to stay awake. But the warmth of the day and her slowly growing age was pulling her in. At least it wasn't her injuries. Her rough tongue swept over the scars on her paw, toes twitching at the memory of the bites inflicted upon it. It felt so long ago... Maybe it was so long ago.

Asi stared at her a moment, remembering vaguely the days of their past. He had never gotten why the females 'teased' him so (or whatever they wanted to call it. Flirting, pah.). It had always gotten on his nerves..
He frowned and looked away. Would he miss Ari like this forever? He suddenly moved toward Ishara and slowly layed himself down next to her, curling up tightly against her. He shut his eyes and concentrated hard. It... was almost like sleeping next to Ari. Almost.
His tail flicked and after a while he fell asleep.

The lioness yawned again, laying her head down. Asi nestling against her sent her body over the void into slumber, causing a deep rumbling purr to escape. Warmth... So pleasant... And for the first time in a while, her dreams were filled with pleasant ones, happy ones.
