-Zanpaktou-
Zanpaktou Name: Higureteisei (Twilight Whisper)
Zanpaktou Call: Irihi Kakou; (Evening Sun Descending) Tenso Kumokasumi (The Ancestral Sun Goddess Fleeing) Getsurei Joushou; (Age of the Moon Ascending) Gesshoku Hatsu (Lunar Eclipse is Beginning)
Zanpaktou Appearance: Higureteisei is certainly not your typical zanpaktou. Unlike most, Higureteisei is a pair of blades, represented in the form of two Chinese styled swords, with wide tassels at the end of their hilts. One tassel is hued in reds, yellows and pale green, while the other is hued in deep blues, and vibrant purples, all the colors of the sky in twilight as it shifts from day to night. [ Image Reference]
Zanpaktou Type: Kidou
Zanpaktou Soul: As in following the dual swords, Higureiteisei is a soul with dual aspects. A woman whose feet do not touch the ground. Her hair is long, and black, and placed into several decorative loops. The garment she wears is a kimono that appears as though it has been woven out of a sky at sunset. A long slender piece of silk wraps entirely around her, and her appearance is likened to a tennyou, a heavenly maiden. She speaks with a very soft voice, which is barely above a whisper. This form represents the blade of day, the first half of twilight. The second form, a woman dressed in deep blues and dark violet, wears a fox faced mask, representing the sly creature of the night. Her voice, also a whisper, leaves the blood running cold, the sound crawling over the skin like an insect. This form represents the blade of night, the second half of twilight, the lack of light and warmth of day.
Shikai: Upon shikai release, the dual swords change in appearence. The blades elongate and take on a curve like a scimitar, though not as pronounced. The ends of the swords become hooked at the top of the swords, and the guards are replaced by an almost knife like handle, while the outer part of the hand guard/hilt becomes bladed as well. The sharpness of the blade is on the outside only, obviously, and the inside curve is padded. The blade itself is hooked at the guard as well. This creates almost an 'executioners scimitar' effect for the shikai form. The tassels at the ends of the blade become longer, and thinner, splitting into two braids which are held in place at the end with golden beads. [Image Reference ]
-Zanpaktou Abilities-
Yabureme Tenjou: Split the Heavens
Yabureme Tenjou (lit. Split the Heavens) is an offensive shikai art, that is used by bringing the blades upwards in a cross over the chest, and then bringing them down rapidly, unleashing a blast of reiatsu from either blade. The effect created is a crossed stream of energies. These energies are considered non-elemental, thus elemental resistance would be considered null against it. The 'cross' can be varied in size, and closeness, coming almost entirely together for a solid effect down the center, or going wide so that escape without harm is lowered unless by specific routes of escape.
Requirements Reiatsu Cost: 10 Level: 5+ Zanjutsu: 20+ Reiatsu: 30+ Reiatsu Control: 30+ Damage: Shikai Damage + Rei Mod + 1 Per 10 Ranks in Kidou
Ooizairihi: Shroud the Evening Sun
Ooizairihi (lit. Shroud the Evening Sun) is a defensive shikai art, that is used with a series of complex stance patterns by the wielder of the blades. This particular artform generates a shield by pooling the reiatsu of the user, and then erecting a circular barrier around the user at the end of the last stance. The barrier curves around the user in a half-moon formation, allowing for a more sturdy defense against certain reiatsu and kidou attacks. The barrier is not absolute, and may be shattered if struck with enough reiatsu, or a strong enough kidou.
Requirements Reiatsu Cost: 25 Level: 10+ Zanjutsu: 50+ Reiatsu: 30+ Reiatsu Control: 50+ Breaking: 50 Damage
Mochidzuki Bakuhatsuryoku: Full Moon's Explosive Power
Mochidzuki Bakuhatsuryoku (lit. Full Moons Explosive Power) is a shikai art that is both offensive as well as defensive, and is used by locking the crossguards of the shikai to one another, and expending reiatsu to create a circular barrier which engulfs the user. This barrier is capable of reflecting reiatsu, kidou, and some physical blows. Upon striking the barrier, it inverts around the one who struck, and then explodes outwards in a shower of reiatsu. This can obviously be very surprising. Once struck and inverted, the barrier disappates, and the two blades must be disconnected, or shatter
Requirements Reiatsu Cost: 50 Level: 25+ Zanjutsu: 70+ Reiatsu: 50+ Reiatsu Control: 60+ Damage: Shikai Damage + Rei Mod + 4 Per 10 Ranks in Kidou
Bankai:
First Form: Tamamushiiro Kagami Joushou Higureteisei (Iridescent Mirror Ascending Twilight Whispers) Second Form: Fukyuu Tamamushiiro Hateshi Kagami Kakou; Higureteisei (Eternal Iridescent Fate Mirror Descending in Twilight Whispers)
Bankai Apperance:
First Form: When released from Shikai to Bankai, Higureiteisei splinters into motes of starlight, scattering across the immediate landscape as it spreads outward into a blanket of night across the area. Several of the stars grow in size, and spin in a circle around both the user, and the opponent being fought. This form takes its shape in a dome around the target.
Second Form: In this form, Higureteisei, already having attained its first form, shifts, until the starlight becomes the thirteen signs of the zodiac, the thirteenth sign containing a pair of eyes in its center.
Bankai Powers:
When in its first form, Higureteisei may be manipulated mentally by the user, causing the larger stars to move, and attack the opponent trapped inside the dome with her. Also, the more basic power of the Bankai allows the user to shroud themselves in darkness, moving from area to area. Whereas one might expect a bankai of this sort to deprive the senses, or even deplete reiatsu, instead, the reiatsu of the user appears evenly dispersed across the dome of stars, making them a harder target to locate. This allows for kidou, or hakudo artforms to be used while shadowed. Obviously, this can grant an edge. The stars of this first form may also fire low-level bursts of reiatsu, as well as impacting all at once, much like a meteor storm. Once all of the stars have vanished, the Bankai ends.
The second set of abilities comes when Higureteisei obtains its second form. This specific power is used when the eyes in the thirteenth sign are focused on an opponent, causing them to be paralyzed. Those with a stronger reiatsu may break free of this hold, while those with lower reiatsu in varying degrees may fight the hold and continue movement. Once the hold has been taken, the thirteen signs explode outward with an immense blast of energy. During this, the barrier becomes nigh inescapable, without first banishing the eyes, or defeating the barrier's creator. Shunpo, or other such reiatsu techniques are dulled inside the barrier, preventing a 'quick escape'. The first twelve signs of the zodiac in this form are images that ripple against the sky, and are not actual physical things. Only the presence and being of the 13th symbol, Serpentarius, the snake, is real. This is the controlling force of the second Bankai form.

-Techniques and Magic-
Zanjutsu Techniques:
Only basic dual-wielding sword techniques are used at this time. Further techniques may be added later, as she learns them.
Hakuda Techniques:
Currently, only a basic bare-fisted fighting style is known. The style is actually based on the premise of dirty street fighting, though it is leant to by great speed.
Kidou Techniques:
Bakudou no Ichi: Sai; meaning Binding Art #1: Obstruction, is a low level Kidou that forces the targets arms behind them, preventing them from using them. This spell is good for Shinigami that would prefer to restrain the opponent, but generally only works against weaker opponents.
Hadou no Yon: Byakurai; meaning Destructive Art #4: White Lightning, is a popular Kidou in which either a beam or bolt of white lightning is fired at the target. This is considered the most commonly used among all of the Kidou, as it's both fast and efficient. The strength of this varies from person to person.
Hadou no Sanjuu San: Soukatsui; meaning Destructive Art #33: Blue Fire Fall, is a blue surge of reiatsu fired at your target. Despite it's power, this Kidou is considered by many to be a low level Kidou due to it's simplicity. Although also very powerful, this Kidou however, requires a long chant before use if the user hasn't mastered it yet. Chant: "O Lord, mask of flesh and bone, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of man, truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws!
Hadou no Yonjuu Kyuu: Hoshizora; meaning Destructive Art #49: Starry Sky, is a Kidou which manipulates the reiatsu of the energy surrounding the shinigami into a pattern which may then be used to strike down their enemy. Incantation: Celestial Lord of the Heavens, Guardian of the night sky, Whispering wind in a blackened sea, Ruler of the stars above, Stretch your hand across the moonlit heaven, Unleash the power of your everlasting night, Tear thy soul and bleed your pain into the skies, Hadou no Yonjuu Kyuu: Hoshizora!

-Basic Information-
Name: Hana, Ran (Water Lily Flower) Clan: Hanazakari Clan, minor nobility Age: 394 (Appears 19) Gender: Female Rank: Academy Student Clan: Hanazakari Clan (Flowers in full bloom) - Once upon a time this clan held decent standing in Seretei, however a twist of fate turned their relations with the courts sour. Though there is much speculation over the exact occurance with the clan, that caused their banishment, only one thing is known as a certainty. Ran is currently the last living member of the clan in all Soul Society. The others, having moved on to the mortal world, into their next lives, are free of the burden of the sin they committed.
Because of this distance from her clan, she is an unknowing member. Having been given the name Ran Hana by those who rescued her from what would have otherwise been an unkind fate, Ran is still unaware of her distant link to former nobility. Though there is nothing that promises such knowledge becoming public, would bode well for her regardless.
The clan itself was founded during the early years of Seretei, and while they maintained a moderate ranking, the clan itself made the mistake of delving into things they should not have. Everything from harboring criminals from Seretei, to broken blood bonds, and mingling with what was then considered the 'enemy'. The gravest of mistakes, that which cost them their rights, and almost their lives, was assisting Hollows attempting to invade Soul Society. Displeased with the way things were run in Soul Society, they joined a movement which would, if plans went accordingly, take the ruling power from the Shinigami whose will was enforced all over Rukongai.
It was during this plot that the crime which had them banished, was committed. Murder. After the death of several higher ranking nobles at the hands of the lesser house, the entire clan was prepared for execution. However, at the pleading of her mother, they were instead banished from Soul Society. However, one small child managed to slip through the cracks. That child was Ran, who was entrusted to a poor, but caring family on the outskirts of Rukongai, in Kusajishi.
The traditions of the clan were unfortunately steeped in death, and they were often called 'The Clan of Bloody Flowers', giving merit to the sins they have committed in the past. The symbol of the house is a lotus flower curved in upon itself like a serpent, the bloom open in the very center of the vine. As far as Ran is concerned however, she is just a street kid from Kusajishi. If she ever learns the truth about her family's past, there is no telling what may happen. For now, we can only hope it remains a secret.
-Appearance-
Height: Ran stands at a very unassuming 5'3" in height, when in bare feet.
Weight: 112 lbs.
Hair: A pale black, so much so that it is almost blue in hue. Her hair falls in tangled unkempt waves around her face, and stops just past her shoulders.
Eyes: Hazel
Clothing:
Mortal World: When in the mortal world she tends to wear a similar outfit, with only a few deviations, all the time. Her gigai is quite stable in it's look. She wears many beads and decorations in her hair, her long wrapped braid of course among those things decorated. She wears several different pieces of jewlery, among them being a black and silver beaded necklace bearing a silver lotus on it, a toe ring on her left foot, an anklet on her right, a thumb ring on her right hand, a loose black bracelet also on her right hand, and a number of different rings on her left hand. Her shirts are typically white, and fall just off the shoulders, with a braided leather halter top beneath them. The trim of these shirts is black, and off the left shoulder, there is a v shaped cut, which is crisscrossed with laces to hold it together. Just to the side of the v, is a small emblem which is infact, the shinigami mark. Touching this mark enables her to leave her gigai at all, though it leaves it undefended. The lower part of her outfit usually consists of black leather skirts split up the sides, and connected by strips of white leather, and more laces just part of the fashion. When not in her skirt, she's wearing some type of black pants, be they slacks, denim, or otherwise. Her shoes are your average black slide shoes, or every now and then, high heels, though she's yet to master the art of walking in those. On whole, she's got a very modern style of dress.
Soul Society: Up until recently, the above would be true, but Ran has undergone a very odd change, and her entire Shinigami uniform has changed, becoming more, and still less like those of a normal shinigami. Her hair is now braided very neatly down her back, and her outfit is the usual basic black and white of a standard shinigami. While she still wears her waist length haori, it is a less dominant feature of her outfit. The flower designs are gone, and her footwear is replaced with something more fitting for someone who utilizes speed. [Image Reference]
Physical Description: Ran stands approximately 5'3" tall, and is pale of complexion. Her body is defined in the sense of a softer woman, though her physical strength is obvious, because of her smaller stature, she seems to have honed more lean muscles, rather than the bulk many 'strong' types have. She is of average build in the chest area, large enough to make her noticeably female, but not so large that she gets more than the random, every now and then male glance. Her hair is kept in a long braid, bound by white fabric, to keep it from coming loose. Her facial structure is very soft, giving her a look of innocence and gentility that is only partially matched by her personality.
Background: Ran was born in Rukongai, unlike many that inhabit Soul Society. Raised in northern district 79, Kusajishi, her past history is not entirely clear. Rumors claim that she is a descendant of the Hanazakari Clan, a family of moderate nobility, that was cast out of Soul Society entirely, and banished to live in the human world. The reason for this banishment is not entirely clear, though there is much speculation flying about.
Ran herself was raised from shortly after her birth, by a poor family who found her after her real family was cast out. When sickness took the outer edges of Rukongai, her 'family' was killed, leaving her as one of the many orphans that inhabited the outer districts. Living alone at such a young age, Ran's reiatsu developed early, small tricks showing themselves as she attempted to just manage to live in the rough society that was Kusajishi. However, simply 'living' was not what this woman had intended. Escaping from the slums of Kusajishi whenever possible, Ran attempted to gain control of her reiatsu with the only form she knew of - fighting. This began to gain her prestige here and there, as fights against boys her own age were steadily won, and despite the beatings she took, she always got up to keep going. It was during an 'excursion' into the first district searching for food that the girl was discovered, as it were, by a shinigami. When it appeared to her as though she was going to have to fight for the scraps of food she'd stolen, her reiatsu flared up, much to the surprise of both the shinigami, as well as the other citizens of Rukongai who happened to be in the immediate area.
She was taken aside by this shinigami who, recognizing the untapped power she possessed, treated her to two things. A meal, and a suggestion to enroll in the Shinigami Academy. Recognizing this as her escape from Kusajishi, and a chance to make something out of herself, she tentatively agreed to think it over. Shortly after that, she and the shinigami began to meet on a semi-regular basis, and she always pressed about what the shinigami did, and what really went on inside the walls of Seretei. The two became fast friends, and spent much of their time training in minor ways, with her friend giving her what assistance she could. Ran was still skeptical about the Academy. Unfortunately for Ran, she would soon be getting a first hand introduction to what it was the shinigami did.
She of course returned to Kusajishi, and began her usual routine of fighting, and training. The shinigami had given her suggestions on how to train, and she followed them as best she could, though she knew she'd likely benefit from a teacher. It wasn't until hollows were spotted prowling around Northern District 80 that Ran began to give serious thought to the Shinigami's words. When one of the squads were dispatched to take care of the Hollows before they became an issue, her Shinigami friend was amidst them. Ran, curious, followed the squad from a distance. It was there that she first got to see any Shinigami in action. As the hollows were cut down, and the fight became vicious, Ran, watching with a dulled sense of horror, realized what they were. Spirits. They were like she was. Or they had been at one time. Closing her eyes, and turning to leave, Ran heard a scream. As she turned back, she saw the shinigami that had shown her kindness, and understanding, laying dead amidst the hollows. Her arm had been severed from her body, and they were ripping her apart. It wasn't until after the hollows had been slain, the final mask shattered, that she moved from her hiding spot. As she stared down at the shredded body of her friend, she knew then, she'd made up her mind. She would chase, and destroy the hollows. She would free the souls from their suffering.
She would keep a promise she made standing over her friends body. That she would fight for her, since she could do so no longer.
She would become a Shinigami.
Personality: Ran's personality is somewhat questionable. While she shows a very carefree and bold personality to those around her, the young woman is actually quite introverted. She prefers to keep things light, and more happy, for the sake perhaps of herself, and those around her. Even during trying times, she is rarely without her smile, and a small joke to make those with her laugh. But there is a darker side to her personality. Morbid, cold, distant and hateful, the side that represents her dark nature, a side that is rarely seen unless she is engaged in serious battle. Ran is considered by most to be extremely easy to get along with, having come from where she did, she knows that she herself has no right to lay judgment upon another.
Other:
- Ran has a fondness for strawberries, they are her favorite fruit, and she would bargain someone else's soul for them. - She was in her first fight at the tender young age of six, over a few strawberries one of the older children tried to take from her. This earned her her first bruises, and an extra handful of her favorite fruit. - She has no spared love or hatred for nobility, nor resentment, as some might. She simply recognizes that things are how they are, and she wouldn't want to change them just because she might have her nose twisted from it. - She thinks Megumi is the girliest man she's ever seen, though she loves the way he smells like so many blooming flowers in the early morning. She hopes she gets to spend more time around him. Not often you find a noble with a good sense of humor. - She has absolutely no idea that she has any type of noble background, and probably wouldn't care even if she did. She's been the same since she was young, and will probably remain that way until she dies. - She's always thought her zanpaktou was strange, because it was split into two, instead of one, like most other people's seems to be. She's always wondered if there's one voice, or two. She hopes to eventually find out. - She hates curry, but loves sashimi with wasabi. As long as there's lots of fresh milk to sip, that is. - There is a tattoo on Ran's back, in the shape of a lotus flower in bloom. It is said this tattoo was present on all members of the Hanazakari clan family. While the records of this were mostly removed from Sereitei, once the family was banished from Soul Society, there are still some remnants. For this reason, it is good that Ran's tattoo is usually hidden under her waist-length haori.

-Personal Journal-
The journal if found, would be laying on the edge of the desk in her dormitory. The pages are worn, and there are scribblings all through it. The writing is scrawled, and many older entries seem to be blanked almost completely out. A pen rests just beside the journal itself, and the words written inside reveal a much different person than the casual talking woman most people would know.
-Journal Pages-
Page One //
I've been here at the academy for a few days now. I'm still getting things sorted out, and haven't quite attended a class yet. That comes soon enough. I've met a few people, and they seem alright. I'm a little nervous, I guess, being around so many nobles. I think I'm doing a good enough job hiding it though. Being bold kind of takes the edge off the nerves. And the strawberries help.
I met the strangest man though. Dresses just like a woman. A noble. I guess that's the fashion people prefer? Or maybe its something else. Not my call to judge, though. I'll write more later, when my thoughts are more coherent, and less confused. For now, I need to get to class.
Page Two //
Well, I've found myself in a not so wonderful position. I'm currently in the Medical Ward, and laid out. Megumi, that strange young man I met, is sitting with me. He's fallen asleep though, and I'm loathe to wake him up. They say he ran, carrying me, all the way from the glade. That's 79 districts he ran through, and then, most of Sereitei as well. I don't know why exactly he did it, but I'm grateful.
When I was half-asleep last night, I could swear he said something about a connection between us, but I was so groggy, I'm not going to believe his words until I have a chance to talk to him about it. I suppose I'll get the chance when he finally wakes up. I'll just have to wait for a while, until he does.
It does feel like we're close, even though we've only recently met. Fate's chains closing in around us? Nah, I ain't that deep.
Page Three //
A lot of things have happened since I last wrote in this. Megumi and I have made some promises to one another, mainly about becoming Captain and Vice Captain together. I've learned the name of my zanpaktou, but I haven't tried to release shikai yet. Yet, anyway.
I wandered across this strange place in the woods the other day. I can't rightly say what it was, or why I was so determined to head into it. It looked exactly like the place in my dreams, and that.. well, it's more than a little disturbing.
I won't keep rambling on. I'm late for class. Again. Why does this seem to be a growing trend with me?
Page Four //
Will I always spend so much time avoiding my journal? Probably. Quite a bit has happened since I last did anything with this. Since I last wrote, I've unlocked and used my Shikai, beat up on a fake hollow, and reworked things in my grove.
I'm spending less and less time in Kusajishi, and feel almost like I'm losing a piece of myself. Megumi has become more distant from me, and I have no idea why. Maybe I'll have more of an idea when I write next.
For now, Hakuda class awaits me.
Page Five //
I did it again. I woke up with that spot on my back burning like someone has set me on fire. I know it's a birth mark, but are they supposed to burn? And if they are, why haven't they ever started burning before?
This has been recurring since I first spoke with my zanpaktou, and then later, after I visited that strange haunted manor. Could it be something in relation to that? But what kind of ties could I possibly have with a burned down old house?
I should explore it more later, maybe see if I can find some answers. And if not there, maybe someone else in Soul Society would be willing to provide a few answers.
Page Six //
I fought Megumi. Unfortunately, he kind of.. gave up? Mid fight. I don't think it's his fault though. I think he's confused by all the voices in his head. I think I'm understanding him a little more, after dealing with the problems I have, what with my own voices giving me so much trouble.
A man called Shinrei came and claimed the two of us off the top of Sokyoku hill for training. Why, I'm not sure, but I won't complain. The more training I get, the better. I'm ready to become strong. It isn't even because of my friend anymore. It's because of Megumi.
I just wish I wasn't too chicken to tell him how I feel. Or maybe it's because I know I can't confirm it? Who knows.Page Seven //
Well, I have some interesting news, I suppose. I've been doing a bit of training, or something like that. It equates to me and Megumi beating the hell out of one another. Which, is a little strange all in itself, but that's what Shinrei ordered us to do, so it's what we've been doing.
The interesting news though, is the fact that Megumi decided to, er, court me. Since I'm not all that big on tradition, I ain't got much of a concept of this, but he mentioned things like 'outings', 'flowers', 'poetry', and other stuff I don't quite get. I suppose if it means spending time together, I can manage.
Well, it's early, and I've got a lot to do yet. Ja'
