This is for all the newbies with questions about how to make gold and other common things I've seen that new people might need help with. If you have any additions you would like to make, feel free to post them, and I shall attempt to add them to the list. Thank you. ^_^

1. Join Guilds. This is important because sometimes when the forums are down the guilds still work and vice versa. Poll guilds are the best to join starting out because you can gain 10 gold (usually) from polls. It only works well if you have two or more windows open and alternate back and forth. Basically it is a good idea to join guilds with the same common interests as yourself so you can make friends with people with similar interests.

2. Multitask. Have a minimum of two windows open at any point in time. This allows you to gain gold quickly if you have say, one thread you are reading, another you are posting in, and a third window you are taking polls in. Trust me it works well, and you gain gold much more quickly than someone with only one window open.

3. Read Rules. Each forum has it's own set of rules posted at the top, if you don't want to get in trouble, make sure to read them. The same thing goes with threads. Read the first post of any thread you enter to make sure you know what rules there are that might not be a part of the Gaian Terms of Services (TOS) but still apply.

4. Beg in Designated Areas Only. If someone tells you not to beg, then don't do it. It's actually very simple, but people often times don't follow it. Make sure you know if begging is allowed before you do so. Charity's and Chatterbox are usually the two places that allow begging the most, but individual threads still might state in the first few posts not to. Make sure you know if you are allowed to beg before posting. If you don't follow this rule, you can annoy and anger other gaians rather quickly.

5. Wear Cloths. Buy yourself something inexpensive for your avatar, or at least equip your peasant clothing. If you don't know what I'm talking about go to the Profile and look at the big picture of your avatar. There is an area that says "Customize Me" Click it and put your cloths on. Do not forget to hit the button that says "Save Changes" or else your changes will not stick.

6. Click It. Anything that bounces across you screen, click on it. Those are random special events that happen to gaians periodically. Enchanted trunks, pink boxes and blue boxes are all things you should click on when you see them. Then they will show up in your inventory. There are items inside. Whether you want to know what is inside the box or sell it to someone else is up to you.

7. Selling and Trading. To trade with other people you first need to get a trading pass. Trading passes cost 500 gold and can be bought at the gaian bank. When you have a little bit more time under your belt you can also buy a vending pass which costs 1000 gold and allows you to sell items in the marketplace.

8. Learn Abbreviations. There are a few things you should learn in order to understand people more easily. 1k means 1000. The k is often times used as an abbreviation for gold amounts to make it easier to type it out. TOS stands for Terms of Service. There are more, but those are the two main ones that need to be learned quickly.

9. Be Courteous. Being rude to other people will gain you nothing but the animosity of others. Being nice to people can often times be its own reward and lead to fun conversations. If you are exceedingly rude to someone either insulting them or just attacking them in general that is referred to as flaming, and can be reported and get you into trouble. If you continue to be rude in a thread over a long period of time it can be called trolling which can get you temporarily banned.

10. It's Only A Game. Remember that this is only a game. Even if you don't like some parts about it, don't take it too seriously. Some items are expensive because they are hard to get, and yes sometimes it can be quite involving, but don't let yourself get depressed or upset over not being able to get items right away. The best reward can be finally buying that expensive item you have wanted and saved up for for weeks.

11. No Insulting The Staff. The staff works hard to keep this game going for us all. Because gaia is a complex system that is difficult to maintain, sometimes it will break down. Don't insult the staff just because gaia is glitching, they are doing their best to make this fun for everyone. If a database is down(and refreshing doesn't work), try again in 10 minutes. If your pages aren't loading right, try another browser (Mozzilla has the most problems with the site during upgrades), or if that doesn't work try restarting your computer.

Don't go to GD or ED - newbs, no matter how intelligent, are oftentimes flamed because it's a weapon to lend credence to weak arguments made by those who have been around a bit longer. Stick to discussion threads in guilds as it's less demeaning.

Do not purposely act n00bish. I tell you now, it annoys the hell out of people. Don't even start. It makes people think you're unintelligent and stupid. Not cool. Not cool at all.
