Just a quick look at the period cycle for anybody who is unsure how it all works.
oh yes, and some boys might be interested to know that periods last for an average of 5 days, not just one. (I know some girls will be looking at that and thinking 'why did she say that?', but a lot of boys i know were very suprised to hear it).

The cycle lasts for an average of 28 days, but some girls' lasts for longer, like 30 or 31 days, and others' for only 25 or 26 days. It depends on the individual. The cycle below is for 28 days and so will not apply to everyone, it's just here as an example.

Day 1: This is the first day of a period, when the bleeding starts. The lining of the womb/uterus has broken down and begins to pass out of the v****a.

Day 4: The bleeding has just about stopped and the uterus starts to build up another lining. It thickens into a spongey layer full of blood vessels ready for the implantation of a fertilised egg.

Day 14: An egg is released from the ovaries so this is the most likely time a female can get pregnant.

Day 28: The uterus remains thick waiting for the arrival of an egg. if this does not occur the lining will break down and the cycle starts again.

just some words of advise:

bananas and hot baths help period pain

also going on the pill, it regulates your period and there is less blood and the cramps get better.
but if this isn't an option for you then have some painkillers and a banana, have a nice warm bath then make a hot water bottle and try to remain as straight as possible, bending over tends to make them worse.
try lying on your stomach with a cushion underneath you.

Okay so my period is an odd one. It only lasts one to two days and in a moment of shock my doctor thinks it was caused by the pill. I was on it when I first came into high school because my period was irregular and unpredictable so there were hopes that it would help my period out. I started having massive cramps and stomach pains and when I stopped the pill my period became the way it is now.

I talked it over with my doctor and she believes that my period was only meant to last a couple of days and with the pill causing it to last a week wasn't good for my body, extra days of extra bleeding. So after that day I have been relying on the Diaphragm and a condom, which I was told is just as an efficient combo as using the pill alone ((not preventing STDs of course.))

Advice for Period Pain: 1. Try going for a walk. If it's raining just walk around your house. If you're in school ask can you go to the toilet. The gentle excercise stretches out the cramped muscles and also releases endorphins which are the body's natural pain killers.

2. Have a hot drink, lie under a blanket, sit in a hot room and relax. Most girls, when they get cramps instictively curl up and tighten their muscles in an attempt to stop the flow of blood. it's a subconscious thing: No period, no cramps - stop the flow, stop the cramps. In fact, this just makes the muscles rigid, more prone to cramping and more painful. The best thing you can do is try to relax. Lie out straight and massage your stomach gently. This may help.

3. Pass wind. Yes it sounds horribly but many girls are prone to being very gassy during their periods. If this affects you then holding out that gas will just mke your insides more full and cramped. Find yourself a private area and pass your gas. Honestly.

4. Try a pain killer specifically for period pain. eg. Feminax. I find they do wonders.

5. Talk to a doctor about going on the pill. It really did make my period lighter and less painful. I'm so glad about going on it. However, this is not always a viable option for many people.

6. See a doctor and get a scan to see if there is a problem. Although rare, EXTREMELY bad period pains can be a sign that something is wrong. If you are in doubt speak to a doctor. they should be able to alleviate any of your fears. They may send you for a sonogram, the same scan women get when they are pregnant. This is all done completely outside the body and does not require a gynocologists exam. It is not painful and can tell you if there is a serious problem. Hopefully none of you will have pains THAT bad that this is required, but if it is, feel free to talk to me as I've been through it before.

This was really helpfull <3 thanks

I'm thinking about #6. Because to me, my pains are abnormal. Every single period it gets so bad where I think just ripping out my uterus would be less painfull gonk

maybe I'm just overreacting. But I am also allergic to most painkillers ( Ibuprofine and most morfine )

I would'nt know since I've never had a period. but I'd get a nice soft furry blanket or a bunch of pillows and relax like a cat with coldplay in the background. the softness may help you feel comfy and music has been proven to relax muscles. and maybe play some chess or monopoly to take your mind off the pain. of coarse this is all hypothetical

Well I don't have a day off from work anymore but every chance I get I lay in my bed and watch some anime. It's relaxing and takes my mind off the pain. A weeks worth of cramps and bleeding in two days really hurts ^^; Also, the midol doesn't hurt either lol

I think I'm one of the lucky ones that only gets cramps for a few 5 hours or so on the first day XD

but with me, my legs get really weak. So I lay down and wrap myself in some warm blankets XP but... someone mentioned curling up doesn't help-- it helps me though, it relieves the pain until I, well, uncurl. I suppose everyone's different.

My mom has said that she would use a heating pad or just keep track of her periods, plan when the next one would be, and take pain kilelrs beforehand so she wouldn't get them. But I suppose your period would have to be regular for that to work.

I was also (keyword WAS) one of the lucky ones who never got cramps. That all changed after I got pregnant. In fact, did you know cramps are actually little contractions practicing for the real thing? Yeah. Now after the baby was born I get them every so often. I was also one of the unlucky ones who got my period in 4th grade. Yay for early bloomers stare
