Padding swiftly through the temple halls, a wisping blue Malu was headed towards the gardens. He was accompanied by a real beauty, a swampie green Maluess with strikingly red eyes. His own rather handsome looks paled significantly compared to hers, but he minded little. The company was greatly appreciated, and even though he was a confident creature, he knew when he had been bested in any area of life, including looks. With a somewhat of a bounce in his step, he rounded the corner and entered the central garden.

As usual, the largest garden of the Temple was bustling with life. Frogs sang out their nightly chorus, crickets hid in the vegitation, an owl was perched on the fountain; all was alive and busy. The largest fountain in teh center of the garden was probablley the most extravegant piece of anything in the entire courtyard. Its old stone was aged to beauty, its design one that civilization had long forgotten. The water glowed in the pale moonlight with an eerie, yet enchanting trickle. To the sides of said fountain were large ferns, healthy and green, and several varieties of flowers. The grass was thickest there, lapping up the water that occasionally sloshed from the fountain, and it provided a blanket for any to sit on.

Slowly waltzing towards the fountain, Gustave smiled to himself. It was quite the romantic setting, no? Almost from a fairytale, really. Reaching the stone, he sat down beside a patch of wild flowers and turned towards his lovely company. "It's a beautiful place, don't you think?" His voice was dreamy as he looked about him. Usually, when he went there, it was too foggy to see anything at all. This was a real treat for him.

[ooc; this'll be rather short as i'm at a friend of my boyfriend's and i really don't want to be ripped into tonight. i'm already in a foul mood being dragged to a party with people i don't know]

The maluess followed, her paws and hooves light on the stone as she fled the mysterious and dangerous outdoors. For a moment, her heart skipped a beat as she thought she heard the sound of a whispy black Malu following the pair, but the dark creature darted down another corridor and she breathed easy once again. Only her eyes hinted at the fear that trolled through her veins, and even that was quickly desposed of to protect herself. With Gustave she felt some sense of security, but even it had it's limits.

She took note of the fairytale setting, the romantic atmosphere as if it had leapt from a bard's tale. Even the fog had managed to follow them their somewhat, it's fingers curling around the outskirts, but they had sometime yet to enjoy the clear scenery. Stepping alongside him, she sat much closer than before as her scarlet gaze took in their surroundings. She didn't make a big deal of their sitting closer, though she had an aire about her that suggested she was 'permitting' such nearness. Swinging her gaze back to him, the smile graced her features once again slowly and gently, "It is beautiful. And peaceful. Safe." She looked back out toward the owl; a secretive creature, she felt her heart go out to him and his wisdom before she glanced at Gustave out of the corner of her eye.

ooc :: <333 it's totally fine. sorry mine is small, my muse is dead for some reason. ;___;

The male showed little reaction to the pair's close proximity, though he didn't mind it one bit. A smile played his maw, and he couldn't help but bring his gaze to her as she spoke of the features of the mystical garden. he couldn't help but throw in a comment. "Yes, and you look as if you belong here." His smile grew wider as he looked away. It was true, after all. Midori was absolutely gorgeous in the bright moonlight here, her coat blending with the darkened greenery around her. And those eyes... They were even more noticable here for some reason.

His attention could not be kept for all that long on merely her looks, however, and he ended up staring at a fern. It wasn't the plant, however, that captivated his mind. It was the fog curling around its base. Perhaps the fog would come up here? It wouldn't grow all that thick, though. It rarely did so far away from the trees. "Yes, it is safe. The others rarely come in here. And it's... calming. I often slink away here to think in the fog." His eyes met hers again with a somewhat shy smile. "It's become a favorite place of mine."

For the moment, his wandering interest was no concern of hers. He had caught her interest, that much was true, but as of now she held herself slightly aloft to him, at best. Not above him, surely, but not close to him either. He was a friend; a pleasant company, most certainly, but at the moment nothing more. In her heart, she knew she was spending far too much time convincing herself of the thing, but it was best not to acknowledge even that much of herself. She cleared her throat quietly, more to clear her mind than to prepare for speech. Why was she even entertaining such thoughts? Mentally she was incredulous and indignant at such fluttering feelings, but outwardly she was the perfect picture of serenity as she stared out at the owl.

When the bird of prey took flight, she tore her eyes away to look at the male once again. Her smile quickly returned as she retorted, "Gustave, you'll make me wonder if you're making jests. I might really be the most despairing Maluess you've ever laid eyes on but you hope by overcompensating that you'll convince yourself otherwise." She was clearing joking, making a jest at her own expense before looking away over the garden. "But thank you. I'm very glad you've shared this place with me. A safe place in the night is always hard to come by; safe, and enjoyable company, even harder." Her brows rose as she glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, "Pleasing to the eyes? The rarest."

Ah, so she would play the compliment game, as well. So long as she knew well he meant no joke in her beauty, he could keep at it all night long. With a chuckle, he replied, "but I do not jest, dear Midori. You truely are beautiful, and this garden only amplifies it." He smiled generousley, and looked over at the sound of flitting wings. Sometimes he wished he could fly as the owls did, fly high above the Temple and away from all of his troubles. It would make trips to his family far shorter, wouldn't it? And surely it would be enjoyable. Flying could provide ultimate freedom in that any creature that is so blessed with this ability can just pick up and leave a place with out so much as moving a few muscles. It was true, his wings did allow him to glide after a run and a jump, but it never got him anywhere. Malu were not anatomically made for flight, and the ones that did have wings had them as a sort of... ornament. They served him little purpouse in life and were sometimes nothing more than a nusiance. What he would give to be an owl...

His mind switched gears after a pause however, as he came back to the garden and to his company. "I would have to agree with you there. It's hard to find beauty and brains in one package." He looked at the maluess again, more deeply than he had before, loosing himself in her eyes. it was gone almost as fast as it had come, however, and he was left a confused mess of antlers, feathers and fur. He couldn't be... No, of course not. He wasn't that kind of guy. He was more of a loner, a flirt and drop sort of malu. He wasn't a commitment driven being, though... He could be, couldn't he? If he really found the /right/ one, he could settle down and have a family. That would be nice, wouldn't it? No wait, what was he thinking? Don't loose your cool, Gustave. Calm it down. Relax. Shhh, that's it. Suave, gotta stay suave and smooth. It took him a moment, but he had recovered the entire thought process, and was now looking as relaxed he could've been. Of course, there was still that lingering thought on his mind that Midori could... No, no, don't think about it now. Think later. Talk now.

With a sigh, he looked back out into the garden. The fog had formed a thin carpet over the grasses and stone that was eerily ghost like. For a moment, he entertained the idea that Midori not only matched this place in beauty but in her enchanting way of looking like a spirit creature. He let it go, though, not sure if he should share the observation with her or not. Instead, he settled on something a bit safer. Leaning down, he delicatley plucked a little flower from the patch at his feet and reached his maw towards her ear, dropping it just behind it. "Now you really belong here," he commented with a smile.

The maluess closed her eyes, lifting her snout to the breezeless aire as her ears perked and she listened to the sounds of the garden. Letting the quiet noises flood her senses in a torrent, her coat quivered slightly over her haunches. She hadn't even wings to glide on, nor cherub wings to fancy herself broken or misformed, she completely lacked the means to fly. But in her mind, she soared with the owl, away from her own secrets and into his own mysterious world. She had no care for future worries, of family or of pleasures. The owl had simple enjoyments; the wind beneath his wings, the crunch of prey between his talons, the tear of flesh and fur under the onslaught of his sharpened beak. Sighing softly, she let her eyes slide open again to look out of the scarlet hued orbs, turning to look at the male almost as if she had forgotten he were there. The mildly glazed expression was wiped clean in a fraction of an instant as she comprehended his response.

"Are you not glad to have found such a deal?" She grinned broadly, turning the compliment to herself before losing herself in a thought. Perhaps Gustave was the one Rohirrim had jokingly referred to; the one who would lasso her startling eyes and keep them, the one who would entertain her infinitely as opposed to minutely, the one who would give her children to share little secrets with, to teach them how to know the land they inhabited. Shaking her head, her ears swiveled back for the briefest of moments before she matched his quiet sigh with one of her own and looked away.

She glanced back at him out of the corner of her eye, sitting straight and poised as she pretended to be engrossed in the surrounding scenery. When he plucked the flower, she nearly smiled prematurely but stopped herself, saving the expression until he had dropped the plant just behind her ear. Her smile was soft and gentle, eyes flashing gratitude before she jested, "Are you calling me a flower? Are there really so many maluesses like myself?" She crooned, hoping he knew she was pulling his leg and really appreciated the compliment. If she left it alone, however, she would no longer be merely flirting for sport and might be flirting for real. She wasn't ready to let go just yet.

At her question, he merely smirked and replied, "You have no idea." To her second comment, however, he had to think harder to come up with the proper answer. He could play the game longer and throw out a sarcastic remark, or he could sincerley let her know that she was special. Was he ready for such a thing? Was it even what he wanted? Somewhere, in the pit of his heart, there was a voice telling him it was right, she was right, but was it true? Perhaps he was just fooling himself... although Mother had always said he would know when he met 'the one'. Such things took a lot of time and effort and thought, though, or at least that's what he heard. What if they did get together and it wasn't the right thing? You don't really think that, he thought, and it was true. He didn't think they would end it all with a fight. In fact, he could easily imagine them together for the rest of their lives, and it was scaring him.

Comming to, he smirked and decided to be playful for the time being, not entirely sure how to tell her that he was interested. "Oh, of course there are," he joked with a wink. "I've got a maluess for everyday of the week, you know." He knew that she would catch the joke in there, for she was a quick one and had already thrown out her own remarks such as his. "And what about you, Midori? How many males do you have lined up?" A smile played his features, his eyes fixed on the flower wedged in her ear. There was something about it that was beyond interesting, something that could captivate his attention for an hour at least. Or, perhaps it was the location of the flowere, the wearer? Who was to know?

As he stared at the wild flower, scenes flashed in his mind's eye. He could see little pups, and it truely frightened him. t was rare that he thought of such things as settling down and having a family. Whenever he spend time with a maluees, it was never the thing that first came to mind. In fact, it never came to mind. Yet, here he was, with a female, thinking of children. Then again, though, she wasn't just /any/ female, now was she? With the things he was thinking, she might turn out to be THE female. Oh yes, it was scarring him. New waters, new ground. He didn't really know what to do anymore in the situation. his only hope was that there would be an easy way with all of this.

She was finding it increasingly difficult to come up with witty or even crude remarks to his jests and compliments. When he smirked and replied first, she blushed lightly and looked away with some form of modesty. Midori was sure of herself; she knew of her eye-catching beauty and great personality. Any healthy maluess would recognize that about herself - but it was a different matter coming from a male of interest. A male she could possibly spend time with. Someone who she could see growing old with, still jesting and counter-complimenting each other as if the sun would never set on tired eyes. When he was quiet for a few seconds, she raised her head to look at him more closely. She wondered what was going on behind those intelligent, laughing eyes of his. What thoughts were running between his antlers?

Her blush deepened, but she cleared her throat and looked away when she realised she had been staring much too long. The blush faded quickly, she not being one for showing her emotions outwardly and obviously. When he joked with her, she caught the wink as she turned back to the male with sturdy ground beneath her paws once again. Jokes she could use as a grasping point, even if they were growing increasingly awkward. "Everyday of the week? Is that all? I've malu waiting in renewing droves by the hour, there are too many for merely one a day." She smiled and winked as well, "This is the longest I've spent with any one male for as long as I can remember."

It was getting steadily hard to keep up with the witty remarks and compliments, which was something Gustave was far from used to. He was out of his element with Midori, yet in it all at the same time. She just clicked with him, yet she kept him fighting for words. Perhaps it was the awkwardness that was swirling about the pair, much like the settling fog? And why was it that things were getting so tight, anyway? Was it the thoughts that kept flashing in his head? That wasn't a pleasant explination, as that made it all his fault. Unless... she couldn't be thinking the same things, could she? Wouldn't that be a releif, to know that she was working in the same direction with her own thoughts. There was an urge to ask her right out, but that just wasn't how he played things. He'd have to stick to hinting at it, and slowly working the conversation to a more serious tone.

"Oh really? What a lucky malu I am." He smiled sincerely and looked at her for a long while, trying to find words that were obvious, yet not so obvious. "I've never spent this much time with any other female, either." After a pause, he added in a quietter voice, "And I'm rather enjoying it."
PostPosted: Tue Jan 02, 2007 10:49 pm

Her red eyes darted between him and the fountain, trying to find one thing or another to make a comment about. Anything to keep the silence from stretching as she felt her mind fill the gaps with thoughts that made her head spin. Visions of pups danced in her mind's eye and she shook her forelock out of her line of vision in an attempt to clear her thoughts. What was the matter with her? She was growing mildly bashful in her confusion, quieting quickly as she attempted to find something to say.

When he spoke, however, she found that she knew exactly what to say. It was all alright, afterall. If he didn't feel the same, she could move on and continue with life as if naught had occured. Nothing had really happened as of yet, after all, it was be easy to keep going. But as it were, with what he had said and the tone he had used, her heart felt at ease. Looking up at him with a gentle smile, she met his eyes with her scarlet gaze, "As I have as well." Her voice was soft, almost shy but backed by enough confidence for five or six maluess.

The confidence that flowed from the maluess was enough to save Gustave from his horrible fit of confusion and place him back on solid ground. That's what he was falling for, the confident, lively female who knew how to take a joke and was quick to through one back. Yet she had a gentle side, a side that could both accept and give compliments. She was the all around perfect package, at least for him. For a moment he mused of how another male might not like the bite she had in her personality, how some might not be able to handle the brilliant confidence she displayed. It was certain that no male would ever turn down her looks, however, and he felt truely lucky to have stumbled along her in the late evening. Perhaps it had been meant to be, for the pair to meet as the fog settled down. Perhaps his god had decided it was finally time to pin him to a female, to let him move on to the next step in his life. Either way, it was something that he had been blessed with, and he was no certain of it.

Back to his old self, restored to his confident smoothness, he smiled and looked into her deep, red eyes. What thoughts could be lingering back there, behind all that beauty? Any guess was good, though he hoped one particular guess was correct. Moving his paw to touch hers gentley, he cleared his throat and spoke with a confidence that had only been restored by her own. "Midori... I /really/ have enjoyed every moment of being with you." He smiled brightly, letting the sentence sink in before continuing. "And I honestly think you're a very special maluess, one that deserves a male far better than myself." Though he did have a healthy self esteem and rarely had a bitter thought about himself, he truely did not think himself good enough for the green beauty. She deserved something greater than he, but it was worth a try, wasn't it? "I feel like.. Like we fit." He didn't feel he needed to say anymore until she had her chance to speak. Only then would he toss around the possibility of them pairing up. it was only fair to allow her to digest what had already been said and to make comments first.

The maluess blushed but didn't look away as he met her gaze with a sense of sincerity and seriousness that made her jokes wither before they could breach her lips. She had had no idea this morning that by nightfall her life would change inalterably, though she was sure her Goddess had known. Perhaps she was watching them now, alongside the God of Fog, whispering like children as their plan unfolded before them, laughing gaily at the reactions of their followers. Midori had not planned on settling down anytime soon, but did one ever plan these things? Here she was, touching paws with a male that she felt like she'd known her whole life rather than just a few hours. But it felt /right/.

She didn't move her paw away from his, rather delighting in the gentle tingling of the contact. Her hind legs shifted against the ground so that she leaned toward him partially, her red eyes never moving from his face as he spoke. It was an interesting sight, watching someone try to relay the same thoughts you were thinking. When he paused to allow her to speak, she smiled softly before nodding, "Like secrets in a fog, I feel we fit, as well." Her scarlett eyes glittered for a moment with a contentment surpassing her sweet smile.

A cloud of relief wrapped itself around the malu as Midori spoke of her understanding and agreement. A lopsided smile permantly planted itself on his maw as he considered what this could truely mean. Secrets in the fog, indeed. it was as if they were meant to be from the moment of birth, both led on a path ath had brought them to the same crossing point earlier that night. For a breif moment, he thought it odd how fast this was all happening. Before the afternoon had started, he hadn't ever thought of settling down with a family. Now, however, he was day dreaming, or night dreaming rather, of pups and of a very special maluess nuzzling them to sleep. Life's funny like that, isn't it?

While gathering his thoughts and his nerve for his next request, he mused of how fairy tale like this entire thing was. Two strangers meet one earlier night, just as the fog is settling, and by night's end they've convinced themselves they fit like a puzzle. Not to mention, the final realization kicks in while sitting in an enchanting garden, speckled with wild flowers and ferns with wisps of fog speading like tree roots. Yes, like the fairy tales told by the older malu as bed time stories for the youngsters. Perhaps this very pair would end up in one of the tales? Who was to know what the future held. The only thing that was certain to Gustave at that point in time was that he and Midori were meant to be. Still looking into those endless red eyes, he gathered his confidence and just went with it. "Than you wouldn't mind a bit more than a friendship, now would you?" There wa a playfullness restored in his eyes, but also a tone of seriousness in his voice.

[ooc; this'll be short. XD sorry. in the middle of a movie]

Midori allowed her eyelids to partially shield her scarlett eyes for a matter of moments, letting her gaze drop over the male's form before returning once again to his face tenderly. It was as if a wall came crumbling down and the cold facade that had once shielded her eyes fell to reveal the depths beneath. She was no longer a painting, but a living, breathing creature. She allowed herself to feel, to wrap herself up in a sense of belonging and connection. Gustave was the one that she had never even known she was waiting for, and the visions of pups in her head solidified to those of their own. Pale blue, green, maybe even red-eyed little malu tucked against her side through the night.

When he spoke, she laughed again quietly. More from relief than any other sentiment, even her eyes smiled as she looked upon him. "I thought you'd never get it out." For a few moments, she continued to smile quietly before nodding with conviction, "To deny it would be an injustice."

Her answer only sent more relief onto the malu, and he actually sighed from it all. There was something satisfying about this entire thing, and then there was also an underlay of excitement. He really would have never thought of anything like this happening anytime soon, especially at such a fast pace. Again, he thought of them as a fairytale couple. Perhaps that's what they would be known as? He didn't know very many mating pairs out and about the temple. Aion and Elu, Chael and his dearly beloved... There were also the Vulperomes litters, but he wasn't truely paired with either of the mothers. Were they truely so rare? Woah woah, wait a minute. Mated pairs. Gustave and Midori weren't that quite yet, were they? He smirked a little at the thought, easily seeing such a thing happening in the near future. Their courting had gone by in one night, so it wouldn't be entirely out of whack for her pregnancy to come fast, would it? The sooner the pups, the sooner he'd be a father, and he was quickly warming up to the idea.

He decided, however, to bring up the idea of a litter on another night, perhaps even a special one. Where could he set up a place for them to go to discuss such things, however? The garden, no matter how magical it was, had already been used. This new location had to blow her out of the water, but where? He'd have to ask around. Perhaps near a stream, where they could dine on seafood and fruits? Ah, leave that for later thought. He had time, after all. For now, he'd like to enjoy the company of his new mate.

With a cocky smirk, his eyes twinkled delightedly. "What a lucky girl you are." He winked, letting her know it was all for joke, as he truely couldn't enjoy their time together if it was all serious. That's what he had fallen for in her, after all, that ability to toss around jokes and that great sense of humor. In truth, he found he to be the lucky one, though she make see it the other way. now that the awkwardness had been swept away with a single shared train of thought, however, it was easier to crack a few and break the strictly serious tone the conversation had turned on for a time.
