I have found that listening to music sung in different languages helps me when I am trying to learn a new language.

Just for example:

Portuguese:

Jota Quest
Skank
Charlie Brown Jr.

German:

Killerpilze
Tokio Hotel

I looove listening to songs in languages other than Icelandic or English. I have quite a lot of songs in Spanish, French, German and a few in Italian. Even though I don't understand Spanish, I love listening to it and it helps me enjoy the song more and just listen to the language/singing without thinking about the lyrics. heart

OK, I love listening to music from all around the world, it feels like travelling and experiencing other cultures. Here are some of the cds that I like the most:

"Le temps des Gitanes" / Goran Brecovic (yugoslavian - Bregovic still supports that he is yugoslavian, even after the demise of his country)

"The Idan Raichel project" / Idan Raichel / Israeli musician that draws elements from hebrew, arabic and african cultures and uses all these languages as well. I discovered it lately, it is reall beautifull, I absolutely love the song with title: "Im Telech"

"Tanto tempo" / Bebel Gilberto / one of the best modern female voices of Brazil, soothing and atmospheric

"Deb" / Souad Massi / Young female algerian - french singer, sings in both languages, beautifull!!

"Les Orientales" music from the Algerian music halls (cabarets) of the 30s and 40s / a hybrid, an european - arabian - magreb mix

"Francoise Atlan & l' orchestre Arabo-Adalou de Fes" / Arabian - Andalousian music, a mix of arabian, spanish and hebrew music tradition, a species that emerged in Andalusia when it was ruled by the Arabs and evolved further in Magreb (Western north Africa) later

"Munadjat Yulchieva - enseble Shavkat Mirzaev" / One of the most well known traditional female singers of Uzbekistan's musical culture that incorporates a lot of elements from the Suffi tradition / It may sound weird at the beginning but its worth listening, I personally love it and think of it as deeply spiritual music

"Women of Latin America" - "Acoustic Africa" - "Music from the Tea Lands"/ Putumayo - My favorites of this independent label that presents to the wider international audience worthwhile artists that are largely unknown outside their own country

Anything from the "Secret Garden" group, its beutifull strongly emotional music

Anything from the greek landmark composer Manos Htzidakis, he wrote music mainly on the '50s and '60s, Melina Merkouri sang lots of his songs, beautifull, dreamy, amasingly tender music

Hope that you listen to some of it, I think that all the music in this list is really worth listening!!

All the best

A.

I heard somewhere that it was better not to listen to music of a language that you're learning as the rhythm is often distorted to match the music. But I don't let that deter me. I love Asalah's music.
