The Book Ball!
The Book Ball is almost here (Jan. 27, all day). So far, we'll hold a thread outside of the guild, come dressed up as characters from books, and have some fun.
Lauray-chan has suggested that members lend and borrow items for the cosplay, to avoid spending a fortune. I think that's a cool idea, and I'll keep a list of items wanted in this post.
Other suggestions are:
Epidemic of Insanity has suggested a monthly book club. Fine with me, but I can't head it. Volunteers for the organization of this are welcomed.
Cosplay List: Fantasy Moon: Lolita Fairgrass: Scout Finch AmeliaBelia: Junie B. Jones
Items looking to be borrowed: Blue Work Jeans (or rough jeans) Blue Work Harness }Fairgrass
Ruby Forehead Jewel Sweetheart Gold Pendant } elijahschick
Fairgrass formerly I've had this semi-idea kicking around in my head for a couple of days, and rather than continue trying to define it by myself, I thought I'd put it out here and see what some other thoughts were. It seems like, as a guild, we have little to do aside from talk about books (which is fine since it is the intention of the guild). But, even so, I thought it might be fun to do something extra. So, I was thinking, and I thought perhaps we could hold a party thread somewhere (chatterbox, I suppose). I further thought, 'wouldn't it be fun if we dressed our avatars like characters from books?' I know this isn't possible for everyone, but it was just an idea. Sort of like a crossover RP. Anyway, shoot me down if you like, I won't take offense. Or, better yet, tell me how it could be improved.

I do like the idea...I just don't have a clue as to who I'd dress up as. 3nodding I'm sure it'd be a lot of fun, though.
Perhaps people would take it to the extreme and pretend to be the person they're playing as, and have other people guess who they are. ninja

Ooh, the power of fandom conquers all! Count me in! whee
Although seriously it does sound like a spiffy idea. Will our guild mistress choose to cosplay the Paper?!

I have no idea yet. sweatdrop We do have a guild member who is always cosplaying The Paper, so perhaps she would like to (even though I haven't seen her in some time). I suppose we should make a list, to prevent everyone from dressing alike. Unless no one minds doubles or tripples... (I don't)

Yes, a list would be great. Hmm, I am still not sure who I would cosplay as to be truthful. So many possibilities!

I love the idea! I'm already thinking of what character I could be. Now it's a bad thing I enjoy so many books. I can't decide. The one downside to having it in the chatter box would be that non-guild members could come in and spam it up. Also, perhaps members could either loan or rent out different davvie items they wouldn't be using for the event so people would be able to cosplay and not spend a fortune.

Well... I love the idea of a book club. But rather than making it monthly, we could just have... I don't know... A subforum? They're only 2.5k, right? Like, I often won't be simply left alone to be on Gaia for a certain amount of time. So a monthly book club wouldn't work for me. But I'd love A chance to get to talk to people about books. I'd be willing to pitch in for the subforum.

I have decided that I would like to cosplay as Aramis from Dumas' classic trilogy about our favorite musketeers. I'll list some preferred musketeer garb, but anything would be fine if what I want cannot be borrowed from fellow guild members.
Black Musketeer Top Red Musketeer Shirt Black Musketeer Pants Black Musketeer Boots Black Musketeer Cape Black Musketeer Hat

Is there any idea of when it will be? Anyone is free to borrow items from my inventory, but I'd like to wait a bit on that until I figure out who I'll be.
I also like the idea of a book club. The gold really shouldn't be a problem. People could either give as much as they'd like or there could be dues. The latter system could be problematic if the dues cost a certain amount, but more people join-thus more money might be raised than needed. The extra money could be distributed, or saved for a reward in a guild event.

The gold isn't a problem. There's enough (I think ...) for a new subforum in the guild account, and the guild mule has 3k as well. I just mean that organization is up to you, since I'm a busy bee this semester. 3nodding
I have no idea when it will be. So far I have about three people who've said they'll attend, so I was waiting around for more people before we started date planning. But, as always, if anyone has suggestions or preferred times, let me know.
I've also decided to be Hester Pryn from Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter. If anyone has either a bonnet or colonial dress that I could borrow, I'd be very grateful. whee
(Not the best letter "A," but it's the best I could do.)

I still haven't decided who I'll be. Maybe Beauty from the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. Or Sabriel. No clue really. It'd be neat if we have the event again if it's around Halloween.
