Because I am slightly Nino obsessed, I went throughout the internet and found various reviews of "Letters from Iwo Jima" that talked about his performance. (I apologize ahead of time for any fangirly squeals that I may let out.)

(http://www.comingsoon.net/news/reviewsnews.php?id=18027)"...Mostly, the movie's success comes down to relative film newcomer Kazunari Ninomiya, who holds things together with an extremely likeable character, one who clearly isn't the type of war hero stereotype we've seen in so many times in past war films."*insert fangirly squeal of happiness*
~Sara Michelle Fritter's review at MovieFreak.com
(http://www.moviefreak.com/artman/publish/movies_lettersfromiwojima.shtml)On the grunt side of things, Kazunari Ninomiya is a wonderfully tragic figure portraying a former baker willing to do just about anything to return to his pregnant wife. The way he looks at the battle would be comical if it didn’t just break your heart, the fact he is supposed to die when there is so much out there for him to live for almost an inhumanly ghastly proposition. Ninomiya’s face is an absolute sieve of emotional discourse, the actor dripping in such poignant vibrancy to watch him navigate the macabre aspects of the assault steals your heart right out from within.I'm so proud of Nino. Actually, at one point, I got choked up and started snivelling. I'm pathetic like that.
sweatdrop It's really weird, though, because I have NEVER been one of those celebrity crazed fangirls. Ever. I completely bypassed that phase in elementary/middle school. And yet, now, I'm even more obsessive than anyone I've ever met. I apologize sincerly if I scare you. But Nino is an amazing actor, an amazing singer, and just a brilliant person in general. Actually, every single member of Arashi is fifty-million times more brilliant than any of the Western actors/musicians that are always in the media. They all deserve to be recognized for their sheer amazing-ness.
