Billy's shrunken lungs were taking a beating with the amount of cigarettes and cigars he had begun to hoard over the past few weeks, but he didn't care. He could bearly breath anyway, he might as well take advantage of it. He was working on one of Aubrey's cigars, leaning back on a rock with his tentacles stretched out comfortable in the shallows of the lake as thick plumes of greasy smoke hung about his finned, hairless head.
He had recently managed to drag himself over to the construction sight for another look, and was pleased with the progress. It was slow, but it was progress, which was somethign to be proud of, right? Progress took his mind off of other, far more depressing thigns.

Maryke wanted to die that day. It wasn't the fleeting, passing thoughts she had had EVERY day, since the time since her last change, but it was the more self assured want that oftentimes was followed by an actual act. She was depressed, lonely, and was beginning to admit (though painfully) to herself that she was stuck here. Maryke couldn't go out swinging, because this was already a lost cause. She didn't want to live out the rest of her days as, as...this thing. Fur, and a tail, and still human but becoming more increasingly like an animal. She didn't want it. Not that anyone here did, that she knew of anyway, but she figured it would be far easier to off herself then to deal with this pain.

What could she say?

She was weak.

So maybe that's what drew her to this area. A place where she KNEW it wasn't a wise choice to go. Afterall the lake monster, from there last meeting did leave her with a faint but still visible scar on her shoulder. And maybe she was hoping for some pain, or one could hope, death. But she knew the latter wasn't allowed. These bastards were sadistic enough to keep her alive. So when she saw a form sitting on the edge of the rock, she smiled. It was a dead smile, but it was there. The first sign of emotion she had shown for months.

At the sound of someone approaching, Billy glanced over with mild interest. Who...? he had only met the woman once, and had remembered plenty of furr, but her face and curves were what stuck in his mind. When it came to moments of weakness and biting and near-drowning, the octopus had a selective memory. Instead, his mouth twisted into a grin around his beak and he flicked the cigar ash into the water, "Y'here... fer auditions?" He weased as loud as he could.

She blinked. The question taking her entirely off gaurd. She had come here for some deep ridden need to be hurt just so she could feel something and he was talking about....auditions...? At least she thought she had heard right. Audtions for what? She shook her head. Not understanding what he meant, but she stepped closer anyway. She kept her head low, tail hanging loosely behind her. She would never be confortable in this skin. She'd happily rip herself apart if she could, in hopes to have the old her hidden in its wake, but she couldn't.

Instead she let her eyes slowly tick up to meet his, her expression unreadible. "Maybe....." she said twitching her nose a bit, "What kind?"

He had certainly changed since their last encounter, his spiny fin flairing against his bald head as he took in another breath and followed it up with a puff of the stogy, and his voice was as quiet and weasy as it ever was these days "I go' a stage.... an' bored people... how woul' ye... entertain' 'em?," It seemed simple. He assumed her excuse for bothering him at the lake was flier-related, same as the blue-haired girl's. He just hoped the lemur-woman presented something a bit more exciting than wiggling to the crackle of an ipod.

She sighed. If he remembered her at all he hadn't shown it. Oh well, she certainly wasn't going to push the issue. She remembered him alright, infamous Billy, 'course he had changed. Not for the best. So had she. Now then, what was this about the entertaining business? She paused, her tail, the one attribute she hated above the fur and ruffs, was now slowly swishing back and forth.

Maryke was, or had been a madame. Now she was just...a nothing. That street life, the prostituion, the pimping, the drugs...basically the s**t that put in you in the category of society's unwanted cyst, was not anything you'd call a talent. She was a throw away girl and she was damn well starting to realize it. Was flirting a talent? What about grade A ********? Not that she had much to say in that department. She was obvously the captain and not the sailor.

"I did some acting in highschool," she said stupidly. She didn't mention that she was forced to as it was a grade, and she didn't point out that she had only been put into a non speaking role. "And...uh...."

She looked around before nodding, and flicking up rock with her tail, a feet she had learned being held up in her duplex for months, before catching it in her hand while flicking up another and another. Soon she kept up a fluid motion of throwing a rock to one hand, tossing it in the air, before catching another. "I can juggle....." she muttered, eyes fixated on the rocks.

She suddenly felt very much like an a**. Oh god, Billy should just kill her there, for want of humilation or just plain depression.

Now that was something at least. Perhaps it was his inner carny, sparked by interest and nourished by attempting to get this project off the ground, but he was actually impressed. He face stayed critical, eyes twitching from the tail to the hands to the rocks and back again, "How many... can y'do a' once? .... can y'do... any other... y'know... jugglin' tricks...? Coul'... y'do an act?" He remembered her alright, but after the way they had parted, it was best to play dumb.

A lot of questions thrown at her at once, but thankfully she was used to multitasking. She turned over his questions before she caught all of the rocks and held them, twitching her tail again back and forth. The exercise given to it made her just itch to use it some more. Damn, not something she'd want to feel. But here she was feeling it. She grinned at Billy, not the usual snarky grin she constantly had. Oh no, this wasn't self assured Maryke looking over at the lake monster, her name for him. Maybe it was a glint of that gawky shy kid she was so many years ago. She felt silly. But he seemed interested, and it kinda made her feel....well she wasn't sure what she was feeling besides silly. Whatever it was, it was better then the depression she'd been in for months.

"I'm not sure. I've tried five...with hands, maybe I can do more.." she said lifting her tail up, indicating she might be able to do more with it. "Other tricks...an act?" She frowned. "uhhhhhh...."

And then an idea struck her. Taking a deep breath she began to juggle again faster, and faster, before twisting her tail around to help with the juggling. She threw them higher and higher, giving her the leverage she needed. Then she took another breath and did a flip onto her hands. Oh the lemur inside of her was rearing and ready to play! Her feet had become near hands as well, with the big toes forming near thumbs. But still very ackward. She caught and began juggling them with her feet, keeping her balance on her hands before she lost footing in a matter of seconds.

It wasn't something she did outside her duplex, let alone in front of someone. And thus she landed with a heavy thump. Perhaps with practise she could refine her little parlor trick.

As the stones moved faster and faster, Billy's face lit up and continued to brighten with each pass and toss and catch. By the time she had fallen, he was laughing a breathy, soft but hearty laugh, tentacles clapping as best to his ability. "Tha' was... brilliant...! Ye'll practice... more, righ'? Get tha'... goin'? S'wha'... M'lookin' fer...! Somethin'... simple... ye' entertainin'...!" He shifted on his rock, thickened tentacles twisting to try to push his body along the ground to crawl towards her with a bit more grace than the last time they had met.

She beamed. Maryke hadn't felt like this in......years, maybe ever. For once in her life she'd done something beneficial, and it didn't involve her putting on some stupid facade to apease the masses in terms of lusty desires. But she wouldn't change that. Hell, money and power were nice. But still, still this was nice. She moved onto her butt, her tail curling around her side as she rubbed the side of her leg where one of the rocks smacked into when she fell.

It didn't hurt but it'd probably leave bruise there later. "Yeah...yeah I can do that," she said, her hazels lighting up like a kid at christmas. She watched him intently has he moved, staying where she was sitting so she'd still be somewhat eye level. "You really think it was good?" she asked, the smallest hesitation in her voice.

"S'best ..." In with a weasing breath, "...act yet!" He grinned. Granted, it was only his second audition. Yeah, he remembered her. He remembered her plenty. His tentacles twitched as he tried to push himself to stand as much as possible- a vast approvement from when he had pulled himself along his belly the last time- his leg-tentacles seemed able to push him up like table-legs. He liked feeling as though he was looking down on her, and hoped she remained seated for that reason.

She did. She hadn't noticed where he was looking or even that he was looking at her so intensly. She was just pleased with herself. Idly she stroked the rock in her hand, thinking about this. It was a strange feeling. She didn't resort to to snark and god knew juggling in public was, well....it was just stupid. Simply stupid. But.....it made her feel good. Doing something, just letting loose, damn it made her feel good.

Finally she ticked her eyes up, but still was obvlious to his eyes. "So.....what do you need entertainers for exactly?"

"Y'aint seen ...th'big t'do... th'horse-necked... chicken-winged Halfie-lad's ...workin' on fer me?" He chuckled, "Buildin'... us a theater." His fins flaired and he seemed to puff up, proud of his pet project.
PostPosted: Sat Dec 30, 2006 8:46 pm

She shook her head. She hadn't really seen anyone that fit that description, or anyone for that matter. Her head moved up at the word, "A theatre? Really?" she let that tick over in her mind. It was...kinda exciting. And she instantly wanted to know more.

"Aye, figgered we aint... goin' no where... anytime soon... y'know? Migh'... as well make ourselves... a' home, righ'?" He gave a chuckle at that, reaching about his person for the plastic bag he kept his matches in tucked under his webbing to relight his cigar.
