"Jerks-" Thud.

"Bastards-" Thud.

"Who do those people think they are?" Thud. Thud. Thud.

Word of the happenings in the Fire Nation were surely not something known world wide, but they were far from low key news, either. Sasha had most likely been one of the first to hear that her sister, the Avatar, and her best friend, Sen Wei (as well as her daughter!) had been arrested.

Razuten was trouble, and whoever had finally taken him out, he no doubt asked for it.

Her first plan had been to rampage into the Fire Nation and take out anyone who stood in her way, bust the innocent (and potentially not innocent in Sen Wei's case, in Sasha's opinion) out, and that would be that.

But she trusted the jailbirds, especially the Avatar, so she not-so-contently took her rage out on a huge iceberg toward the west that had crashed into shore only days ago.

Each time her water would slash through it, a chunk of ice would fall down, down, down and make a loud thudding noise against the ground.

The main difference that anyone would find between the poles and the less frosty mainland was a definite lack of sights to see. If you had seen it once, or twice, you could almost say that you had seen it all, but none the less Meilin found something relaxing about wandering the calm of white. The Northern city-tribe had been a bustling place compared to the quieter Southern pole. Meilin preffered the change, honestly, but even the Southern Tribe was alive with rumors as of late. That's how she ended up out here.

She hadn't been expecting to find someone slashing away at the ice, but there Sasha was, all the same. Meilin's eyes moved to the iceburg currently being sliced and diced, instead, rather than the bender herself as she drew closer.

"I can't believe them!" the woman raged. In a final set of motions, her arms moved back as far as they'd go, bending the water along with them, then flew forward.

The stream went bursting through the iceburg, cracking almost the entire side facing the ocean. It toppled into the water as one huge chunk, and sent a wave hurdling toward the shore.

Sasha's arms raised and carefully coaxed it back. When the water had settled under her command, she peered over her shoulder and asked, "Can I help you?"

For a moment Meilin felt a slight bite of uncharacterstic yearning. She'd be that good one day, but for now she had to be content with her training, at least until she found herself a teacher.

"I'm in need of no aide. I was just drawn by the commotion here."

Her gaze became curious, just a flicker of recognition in her eyes. This woman, could she perhaps be the "Sasha" she'd heard about in the village? She did fit what little she'd gathered about the bending-instructor. If that was the case then perhaps she'd found her reason for traveling to the South Pole... but with all the fuss about the Avatar being arrested, she doubted she'd manage to snag any of the bending-master's time.

"Master Sasha, I assume...?"

Sasha blinked, and that alone seemed to will away her previous aggression. The teacher's gaze softened before she sighed heavily. A hand scratched the top of her head, though it didn't itch at all. Perhaps it was some type of nervous twitch, but then, not much about Sasha seemed to say nervous at any given situation.

Maybe it was just an odd but developed habbit.

"That's right," she nodded. Sasha had always been a bit dense about her status around the tribe, and even in other places, so it struck her as odd this other person wanted to know who she was, yet didn't need anything.

"I don't recognize you."

The change was abrupt, and the usually-percieved-as-perplexed expression was humerous in light of that, but Meilin didn't have any outward change of face to show for it. Her gaze moved briefly out and then back away from the waters that were slowly beginning to calm as she lowered the hood of her parka.

"I'd expect that, we've never met before of course, you just happen to fit the few descriptions I've heard... My name is Meilin."

"Pretty name," Sasha said honestly. Sounded more like one that belonged in the Earth Kingdom to her, but this girl was clearly a waterbender. One from the Northern Tribe, since she'd have recognized her otherwise, and Sasha wasn't all that sure how they ran up there, naming or otherwise.

Makoda had moved there, and that was enough 'STAY AWAY' factor for her.

Now only a few feet from Meilin, she stretched her arms above her head. "Do you have relatives here?"

PostPosted: Fri Dec 29, 2006 5:40 pm

"Thank you." Meilin replied, otherwise content to let the name-topic drop. Her arms folded over her chest simply for having nothing else to do with them. "No, no relatives that I know of and I've lost contact with the ones I have back home. All of my family is back in the Northern tribe. I left to pursue my bending, needless to say my parents weren't entirely pleased."

That reply came just a bit less neutral than the others before. Anyone who knew the basic traditions of the Northern tribe would understand. It had to be one of the most pointless traditions that Meilin had heard of.

"Ah, I see." Yes, Sasha knew all about that. "There aren't any good benders about there, anyway. In fact, most of them are raging assholes." MakodaMakodaMakoda.

It was probably immature of her to judge the entire male population in the North by her brother, but if they were the kind of people that got along with him, she had no problem hating each and every one of them by default.

Sasha shrugged. "Parents are parents. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. A lot of the orphans up here can tell you that. Do you know anything? About bending?"

Finally Meilin's poker face cracked, a small smirk replacing the neutral stare from before. Did she fault Sasha for that generalization? No, not at all.

"Agreed."

Yes, parents would be parents, and her father was nothing if not diverse. Her twin did get along absoultely wonderfully with them, Meilin had just always been different, cut from a different stone than the rest of them it seemed.

"Healing, of course, anything else that I know was self taught so I can't say that it's as much as I'd like."

Meilin was concious of her response this time. She didn't want to seem like she was looking for handout-help, because she was in no rush to find a teacher and personally thought it would be distasteful after she'd said she didn't come looking for help.

Without even realizing it, Sasha grinned. It was brief, though, because she quickly remembered her only likable sibling and Sen Wei were in jail, and she had no right to be in any sort of state even similar to happiness until they were let out.

The nonsense of the Fire Nation was only second to that of the tribe in the north, in her oh-so-strong opinion.

"I can't heal at all," she admitted. "Refused to learn when I was young. Some sort of stupid rebelious thing, I guess." Not that it really mattered here. Her parents and shrugged it off and told her to focus on bending if that was the case. "It seems this generation is prone to leaving home. How old are you, anyhow?"

"I don't think you're missing out on much, to be honest. It's useful if the right situation arises, but that's -if-."

She hadn't had much use for it once she grew out of brawling with the boys back home as a younger girl.

"Though the knowledge of the human body would certainly come in handy in a combat situation. Twenty four years in just a few weeks. And yourself, if I can ask?" Out of simple curiosity. Age rarely seemed to make any difference to Meilin.

"32, I think." A lot of other women may have grimaced, but to Sasha, age didn't mean all that much either. Which is probably why the 'I think' was added to the end of her answer.

As long as she could move like when she was a child, bend, breath--hell, as long as she was alive, what did it matter? "Old in the eyes of children," she added with a chuckle. A lot of her students thought so.

"Speaking of which, I'm due to teach one of them in a short while. Are you staying around here for very long?"
PostPosted: Fri Dec 29, 2006 6:48 pm

"Ah, but you're probably wiser as well. Age has never mattered much to me." She confirmed both of their opinions out loud, her fingers tapping lightly against one arm as she took in a breath of the crisp, cold air. All at once she realized that she was actually glad to be someplace as familiar as this again. The simplicity was a refreshing change to the hustle and bustle of the mainland's cities. To be somewhere that everyone knew one another (or could if they wanted) by name.

Meilin's brow perked a bit at the next question Sasha proposed. She hadn't given it much thought until now about how long she'd stay. She would've most likely just stayed until she felt like going or decided she had no reason to anymore, but she was enjoying Sasha's company and certainly wouldn't mind a chance to get to know her better. Her circle of friends was extremely small (the way she ultimately preffered it), so when she came across someone that she felt she could get along with she made an actual effort to befriend them.

Finally, Meilin's arms unfolded, expression evening out again after just a moment of thought. She nodded. "I haven't decided yet when I'll return to the mainland," Or if she -would- at all. "I'll be here until then. Do you have many students?"

"Matter of opinion, I think," was her answer. It really was, because Sen Wei considered 3 students an outragous number, while Gesh could have up to twelve or more at a time. And Razuten had taught entire armies, she'd heard. "In my own, not too many. If you stay around longer, I'll teach you some things."

It was true: Sasha had a weakness for teaching women from the North. After they had learned she always prod them to go beat up some men back home, too, but that was a long way off.

"My home is over there," her arm motioned to a particular large, lone igloo. "Goodbye for now." With a half-wave and her verbal farewell, the woman was off.
